Saturday June 29 from 6-8:30 PM a group show titled, “The Deep End” opens at RJD Gallery. The show has sizzling new art by Salvatore Alessi, Frank Oriti, Jorge Santos, Aneka Ingold, Stefanie Jackson, Margo Selski, Alain Vaes and Pamela Wilson. The gallery is located at 2835 Main Street, Bridgehampton NY.  The website for RJD is rjdgallery.com.

During this time 3 separate shows will be going on. They are:

“The Deep End” features works by Aneka Ingold and Margo Selski.
“Still Standing” features works by Frank Oriti, Jorge Santos and Stefanie Jackson
“EAT THE NIGHT” features works by Alexander Klingspor
I had the opportunity to speak with Aneka Ingold  who is an artist participating in “The Deep End”. Here is the  interview:
1. Did the gallery pick the pieces you put in the show or did you?
Richard J Demato curated all the shows and titled them. He put artists together he thought were compatible in style. RJD represents all the artists participating in each show. I think the title “The Deep End” is a suitable title because the artwork contains layers of deeper, symbolic and hidden meanings.
2. Is there a common theme among the pieces in the show?
Margo and I, who are featured in “The Deep End” both create surrealistic narratives that revolve around the female figure. There are elements of fantasy and whimsy, but our work also contains emotive subjects that are very thought provoking and engaging.
3. Have the artists in the show met before?
I have not met the other artists yet. It will be my first time attending an opening at RJD Gallery. I’m really looking forward to seeing the show and getting to know the other artists. I really admire Margo’s work and can’t wait to see it in person.

4. I know you just won the Bennet Prize, which was a group show of sorts. Do you prefer group shows?

The Bennett Prize was a group show of the 10 finalists for the award. I was so honored to participate because these women artists are all extremely good at what they do and have really honed their craft. Group shows are such an amazing opportunity to see what your peers are creating and share ideas about the process of art making.

6. I know your work has a lot of symbolism. Could you talk about one or two of your favorite uses of it in these pieces?

Here is some of the Symbolism in “Ascend”:

To ascend means to move upwards, to rise, to become higher and more noble. The butterflies surrounding the woman are a symbol of transformation and freedom. These winged creatures possess the ability to change and evolve and must go though many phases to become the exquisite creatures that they are. They leave the safety of their cocoon to venture out into an unknown world and discover their own potential. This art piece is about finding the courage to explore untapped realms of our lives. The women in this portrait is reaching outside of the cocoon of her own fears and trusting her own untested wings.

The feature photograph is of Margo’s contribution to the show.

Aneka has the three images below in the show.
