NEW YORK CITY – Hashimoto Contemporary is pleased to present Art Market SF / NYC , a group exhibition. Due to the postponement of Art Market San Francisco, originally scheduled to take place in April, we wanted to take the opportunity to share new and recent works which were made especially for the fair.

Dennis Brown (also known by his pseudonym Bagger43) is a San Francisco based artist who studied illustration, working as a full-time designer and utilizing his free time to pursue self generated art projects. The playfulness and lowbrow style of Oakland based Jeffrey Cheung’s contorted nude figures has quickly gained traction within the Bay Areas s ever-changing art scene. Cheung’s humor translates across his works, which depict a celebration of love, acceptance and equality.

San Francisco based Kim Cogan’s work explores the many mood and environs of American cities through the use of oil paint, capturing contemporary life in all its beauty and absurdity. Bay Area artist Jessica Hess is a hyperrealistic landscape painter. Her depictions of the urban environment celebrate the art of graffiti and explore themes of censorship through a fine art lens of oil painting and gouache.

Erik Jones is an Illinois based artist, who investigates figure, form and composition in his works, intermixing elements of hyperrealism and geometric expressionism. Rendering elements of his subjects in a hyperreal aesthetic, they are surrounded by a colorful swell of shapes, color and form. San Francisco based Sean Newports sculptures deal with perceived notions of reality and the idea of creating a digital aesthetic through analogue processes. Working primarily as a woodworker, Newport has honed his skills as a carpenter and fine artist over the past decade.

Joel Daniel Phillips is an American artists whose work focuses on the tenets of classical draftsmanship. Inspired by the depth and breadth of human experience, he strives to tell the personal and societal histories etched in the faces of those around him. Pennsylvania based Crystal Wagner combines 2-D and 3-D form, alternative use of materials and hybrid approaches to printmaking to create amorphous sculptural works and large scale installation.

Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, there will be no opening reception for the exhibition, and the gallery will be closed to the public. The exhibition will be on view through the gallery website. Although the Instagram live walk through of the show is over it’s recording can be viewed at On “View”: Saturday, May 23rd, 2020 – Saturday, June 13th, 2020 via their website.
Joel Daniel Phillips and Crystal Wagner will participate in the live stream.

NEW YORK CITY – Hashimoto Contemporary is pleased to
present In Formation, a group exhibition curated by
Jennifer Rizzo. The exhibition brings together a group of
artists who emphasize the use of geometric shapes and
organic forms in their work.

The Exhibit is on view from Saturday, February 8th, 2020 – Saturday, February 29th, 2020

Following is a short description of participating artists, with a few images:

Brooklyn-based Scott Albrecht is perhaps best known for his cut, painted and assembled wood pieces, merging the artists interest in form, attention to detail and typography.

The playfulness and low-brow style of Oakland-based Jeffrey Cheung’s boldly colored contorted nude figures explore themes of queerness, identity and intersectionality.

Minnesota-based Gregory Euclide creates sculptural relief works, paintings, and installations. Euclide juxtaposes naturally occurring, organic matter with artificial, man-made materials and found objects to create works which resemble landscape paintings but defy categorization.

Mary Iverson (Her work is the feature photograph.) lives and works in Seattle, Washington. Her paintings explore the balance between the natural world and industrial activities, inspiring conversations about the causes and consequences of climate change.

Illinois-based Erik Jones utilizes elements of hyperrealism and geometric expressionism to investigate the figure, form and composition. Rendering his subjects in a hyperreal aesthetic, they are enshrouded within a colorful swell of shapes, color and form.

Augustine Kofie is a Los Angles-based artist, who creates works which harmonize opposing and contradictory dynamics, setting futuristic compositions against vintage earth-toned palettes. By doing so, the artist creates technically complex, meticulously structured formations through handmade line-work and layering.

Dan Lam, a Dallas, Texas-based sculptor and painter, explores color and form in her organically shaped sculptures. The artists engaging yet oddly unsettling sculptures highlight the artists fascination with color theory,
evoking otherworldly creatures in a visceral state between consumption and consummation.

San Francisco-based Sean Newport’s sculptures consider perceived notions of reality by creating a digital aesthetic through analog processes. Newport hand-cuts wood into three-dimensional shapes, which are brightly
painted and and arranged, unveiling patterns which emerge from unique geometric designs.
