]]>Also on display were Andy Warhol’s Mick Jagger (1975), Kelly Sullivan’s Rock and Roll Voodoo (2015), and other works by artists highlighting the Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, and the Rolling Stones.
Those in attendance that evening included Peter Thomas Roth, Linjie Deng, Cathy Soref, Dusty Wright, Terry Hill, Miranda Lee, Margie Beck, Jean Ziperski, Sara Beth Shrager, Shelby Hannan, & Nicole and Natalie Meir.
Although the Grateful Dead started their storied career as a band in 1965, Artist Robert Cenedella only recently boarded the proverbial ‘bus’ as a Deadhead. In this massive interpretation of the band’s journey across the years, So Many Roads, also known as Grateful Dead 1965-Forever, leaves your eyes scrolling from one panel to the next, all while pondering about the deeper meaning behind all the imagery within the painting. Just like Robert Hunter and John Perry Barlow were able to do with their lyrics, Cenedella paints a story that is open to interpretation and resonates with the viewer however they deem fit in this Deadhead’s utopia.
In honor and celebration of Jerry Garcia, on what would have been his 80th birthday, So Many Roads will remain on display to the public until August 1st, 2022. On August 2nd, So Many Roads will exit the Rock & Roll Art exhibition due to prior filming obligations for an upcoming documentary; however, the 26″ x 39″ Fotiou Framed Digital Archival Print will remain in its place at Carlton Fine Arts until August 12th. Exhibition hours are Monday – Thursday: 10 AM – 6 PM; Friday: 10 AM – 4 PM; Saturday: Closed; Sunday: 11 AM – 6 PM. ABOUT ROBERT CENEDELLA
Robert Cenedella was born in Milford, Massachusetts in 1940. He received his formal education from The High School of Music & Art in New York, and from The Art StudentsLeague of New York. From 1988-2020, he inherited the George Grosz Chair at The League where he was invited to teach his Life Drawing Class and a Painting Workshop. Following a definitive tradition in art, like Brueghel, Daumier, Hogarth, and Grosz before him, Cenedella has devoted his art to chronicling the changing rituals and myths of contemporary American society.
In the last 40 years, Cenedella has amassed considerable international praise as well as inclusion in numerous public and private collections. His commissions include works for the famed Bacardi International and Absolut VODKA, a theater piece for actor Tony Randall, two murals of historical significance for Le Cirque 2000 Restaurants in New York and Mexico City, and most recently a visual jam to commemorate the history of the Grateful Dead.
In September 1985, Cenedella exhibited at the Bagatelle in the Bois de Boulogne in Paris, a show sponsored by Mr. Jacques Chirac, then mayor of Paris. In 1988, he held a one-man show at Saatchi & Saatchi’s headquarters in New York, and in 1990, he was included in the prestigious Amnesty International Exhibition in SoHo, New York. In December 1994, he had a major retrospective at the Galerie Am Scheunenviertel in Berlin, Germany, which was a tribute to his former mentor and ran concurrently with the George Grosz Centennial Exhibition at the Berlin National Gallery. That same year, Cenedella’s concept of selling shares of stock in his painting 2001 – A Stock Odyssey was disclosed in a New York Times feature article. The idea prompted Leo Castelli, the SoHo gallery owner, who once compared the art boom of the 1980s to the rise of junk bonds, to call the experiment “a conceptual work of art.” Cenedella was also featured in Norbert Bunge’s award-winning documentary film George Grosz in America: Life’s Fine in the Labyrinth presented at the Berlin Film Festival in 1995.
From 1995 to 2000, Robert Cenedella exhibited and lectured around the United States. From March to May 2003, a full retrospective of the artist’s political works was sponsored by The Nation Institute. This exhibit, The Nation Hangs Cenedella, was held at the New York executive offices of The Nation magazine and covered subjects ranging from the Selma riots to the preemptive war on Iraq. It was the first exhibition given to an American artist by The Nation. On March 11, 2004, Cenedella unveiled “The Easel Painting Revival” at Le Cirque 2000. In the spring of 2005, Robert Cenedella had a solo exhibition at Colgate University in Hamilton, New York, and conducted a lecture entitled: “WHAT isn’t ART.”
Cenedella’s art and life was the subject of a book, “The American Artist as Satirist,” by M. Kay Flavell. Cenedella was also the protagonist in Art Bastard, a historical documentary film on his life and work, which was released in the spring of 2016 by Concannon Productions, Inc. to critical acclaim. It was written and directed by Victor Kanefsky, produced by Chris T. Concannon, and edited by Jim MacDonald.
Robert Cenedella maintained a studio for 60 years in Tribeca and Midtown Manhattan; In August 2020, Cenedella moved from New York City to Maine with his wife, Liz, where he paints full-time. During the summer, Cenedella spends his time on his private island in Maine in a rustic cabin he personally built many years ago. He uses this time for reflection and inspiration. He is currently working on a coffee table book that revolves around his art and life story, which is due to be released in 2023, titled Robert Cenedella | 60 Years of American Art.

]]>The post Carlton Fine Arts Ltd. Presents “Asian Art SPA” by Linjie Deng appeared first on NY UNDRESSED.
]]>
Asian Art SPA features different works, which Deng created after he was attacked at a New York subway station at 86th street. His attacker referred to him as f**king yellow while violently shoving him to the ground. Reclaiming the Asian slur, Deng has created three works that are all yellow, paying respect to the pain the Asian community has felt during this time. These pieces include I am White, Black and Asian, in which a panda is depicted holding two guns; I don’t like the way he looked at me either, and 8 Deadly Shots. The proceeds from these works will be donated to Think!Chinatown, a non-profit whose mission is to foster inter-generational community through neighborhood engagement, storytelling & the arts.

Deng will also feature other works including works from his Yin-Yang Series, a selection of contemporary calligraphy works consisting of a set of mutually opposing and coexisting words: freedom and hope, you and me, me and we, proud and humble. These reflect the different reactions and perspectives of Eastern and Western cultures throughout the last year.
The Teeth Falling Out series will also be spotlighted with works including The Tooth, Water, Sunshine, Soil, and Leaves. Deng has chosen five basic elements of life and painted them individually, aiming to magnify the small and potentially invisible visual characteristics of each. After spending time painting these, Deng feels connected to them, not just physically but spiritually. He was able to respect their value and to not treat them as inconsequential, which is what he hopes his audience will feel.
Linjie Deng’s “Asian Art SPA” exhibition will be on display with all works available for purchase at Carlton Fine Arts Ltd. 543 Madison Ave, New York, NY 10022 location. Exhibition hours are Mondays – Thursdays: 10 AM – 6 PM; Fridays: 10 AM – 4 PM; Saturdays: Closed; Sundays: 11 AM – 6 PM and by appointment. ]]>The post Artist Olga Ozerskaya’s vibrant Works Are A Welcome Escape from COVID 19 appeared first on NY UNDRESSED.
]]>
Ozerskaya’s works are represented by visioner.art gallery which focuses on original works and editions by iconic blue chip names and emerging talents. A good representation of her works can be found on the gallery website (www.visioner.net) or on Artsy (www.artsy.net/visioner).
Olga’s works are refreshing especially during the COVID-19 pandemic as one can almost get lost in the brightness and jovial nature of her depictions despite these bleak times.

“I want people to feel recharged after viewing my work from the series I created during COVID. I’m a colorist by nature. That’s where I source my energy for the work. I often choose to incorporate bright colors, but I wanted people to be inspired in this difficult time to use art as a tool to bring them joy. From my perspective, what else can I do to give back? I would like my art to be a contribution,” says Ozerskaya.
Ozerskaya’s art has a whimsical quality, and it is clear she is hyper-focused on feminine beauty and imagery. She is clearly a feminist who is able to depict the strength yet beauty of women in their natural form.
“While the idea of portraying women archetypes came before COVID, I continued to create these works during quarantine. They are important now because we’ve all had to go within our inner world during this time and understand our own personal spirit and who we are as individuals,” she adds.

Together with Visioner.Art, Olga conducted her first online solo exhibition. Her women archetypes series of works were part of the exhibition “The flower girls.” The series examines women archetypes that prevail in contemporary society. Archetypes are models based on patterns and images that represent tendencies in us, which were first introduced by Carl Jung as a way to understand how our psyche contributes to our behavior.
“My new series on women archetypes was inspired by legendary feminist artists Barbara Kruger, Judy Chicago, and Tracey Emin. Each art work is a visual code – flower and text describing a certain women archetype. Every human has their own set of these codes. The key to self-acceptance is to understand them,” says Ozerskaya.
Her work Wish you were here, made from acrylic print on canvas, is a stark contrast to the harsh realities of the pandemic and even many of the morbid advertisements we see today. Another piece in the series, You are my heaven, is also playful and upbeat. The white orchids in the digital collage have a photographic quality and are so abundant that it makes the viewer want to lay down in them. The lettering in this series resembles the hype wear brand Supreme, and the words have the appearance of floating.

Ozerskaya also has not stopped creating during COVID-19. Like her upbeat work, she continues to have a positive perspective and mindset on her future. As a result, she will be featured in Visioner.Art Gallery’s exhibit “From Warhol to Quinn with Everything in Between.” The exhib it will be showcased in this year’s first ever Hampton’s Virtual Art Fair (HVAF) where Olga’s work will be presented together with iconic blue-chip names like Andy Warhol, Eric Fischl, Nathaniel Mary Quinn among others and can be viewed at https://www.hamptonsvirtualartfair.com/visioner-art/

]]>The two highly-anticipated fairs will showcase more than 120 international contemporary and modern galleries from 50 countries, representing more than 1,200 artists who have exhibited at Art Miami, Art Basel, Design Miami, The Armory Show, Masterpiece, Expo Chicago and Art Dealers Association of America’s The Art Show, among others.
The sister art fairs will begin with a special VIP Private Preview on Wednesday, May 3, 2:00-5:00PM. This will give collectors, curators and art advisors the opportunity to view and acquire the most prestigious works available to the market from the 20th and 21st centuries.
This year, Art New York will display the finest work of the modern, post-war and pop eras, and feature paintings, photography, prints, drawings, design and sculpture from masters including Andy Warhol,

….and Ed Ruscha.

Art New York will be the perfect launch to New York Art Week, showcasing the most important works from the masters to the emerging artists ready to take fairgoers by storm.”
At Art New York, Long-Sharp Gallery will display The 99%: United We Stand, an installation of intimately scaled portraits by artist Jason Myers that portray faceless, nameless members of the 99%. A portion of sales will be donated to Direct Relief, a humanitarian aid organization devoted to improving the health and lives of people affected by poverty and emergencies.
