Krystyna Gmurzynska, Mathias Rastorfer and Isabelle Bscher of Galerie Gmurzynska hosted a dinner on Tuesday May 2nd at Mr. Chow in honor of legendary artist Christo, and style visionary Alexandre De Betak, who designed Galerie Gmurzynska’s booth at Tefaf New York Spring, which opened the following evening.
Galerie Gmurzynska’s celebratory dinners are some of the most eagerly anticipated events among art fair attendees, and friends including Susan Sarandon, Cuba Gooding Jr., Ellen Burstyn, Valesca Hermes, Julie and Billy Macklowe, Flavin Judd, Rohan Marley, Jennifer Creel, art historian Germano Celant, Janna Bullock, and Isabelle’s brother Lucas Bscher, were among the 100 guests who joined the mother and daughter art dealers, Ms. Gmurzynska and Ms. Bscher, and the Galerie CEO, Mr. Rastorfer for dinner.
Isabelle Bscher comments: “Tefaf has a great tradition of bringing together the best of design, antiques and art, so to have a fair of this caliber in New York is very exciting. Alex de Betak is an icon of stage design who has created the most amazing environments in the world of fashion especially. We always find it fascinating to have geniuses from other fields construct great environments for art.”
At Tefaf New York Spring, Galerie Gmurzynska is presenting Christo, Indiana, Yves Klein, Lam, Leger, Lissitzky, Malevich, Matta, Miro, Rodchenko, Schwitters, Stepanova, and Wesselmann, in a booth designed by Mr. Betak, who said his design is, “A brutalist yet minimalist and futuristic setting for a powerful art selection… all in concrete, mirrors and light lines in authentic Betak manner.” The collaboration with Mr. Betak continues Gmurzynska’s tradition of engaging with leading visionaries, including Zaha Hadid, Richard Meier, Roger Diener, Claude Picasso, Karl Lagerfeld and Baz Luhrman, to develop a creative and functional display.
