The Ellen Hermanson Foundation was established in 1997 to honor the memory of Ellen Hermanson and carry on the important work of her as an activist and an advocate. Ellen used her journalistic talents to become a strong voice for breast cancer patients and their families. The foundation is unique in its devotion to helping breast cancer patients and their families cope with the physical changes and emotional aspects of breast cancer by focusing on educational outreach and psychosocial support.

The Ellen Hermanson Foundation’s founding chairs Emily Levin Esq. and Julie Ratner Ed. D held their 20th annual gala on June 20th to celebrate their achievements and to honor Andy Sabin for his environmental and philanthropic work. Chaired by Jean Shafiroff and hosted by Fox Meteorologist Audrey Puente, the duo welcomed over 300 guests to photographer, Steven Klein‘s Westkill Farm in Bridgehampton for a night of dinner and dancing to the sounds of Audrey’s brother, Tito Puente Jr. & his 10-piece band.

Guests including Homeland actress Amy Hargreaves, who arrived with the artist Bentley Meeker, Rosalie Puente, Hope Kramer, Bobbie Braun, Robert Chaloner President of Southampton Hospital, Mark Epley Mayor of Southampton, and his wife Marianne, Fred Thiele Assemblyman, and Hope Klein Langer, arrived and were driven to the tent in golf carts.

Midway through the event, Julie Ratner thanked attendees and supporters and let them know that The Ellen Hermanson Breast Center at Southampton Hospital had provided 6,000 mammograms in 2014 alone, and an additional 360 mammograms to women that were uninsured. Julie then read a letter from Gini Booth, a patient who had recently been re-diagnosed with breast cancer and treated at the Breast Center. Scarlett Magda, DVM, then introduced Andy Sabin by reading a letter from Susan and David Rockefeller that highlighted Sabin’s dedication to the environment and philanthropy, before Julie presented Andy with a crystal-healing bowl on behalf of the Foundation.

Andy handed over a check for $10,000 to the Foundation on stage, in addition to the $10,000 he had donated.  The gala was a huge success as Jean Shafiroff then thanked the foundation for the work they have done over the past 20 years for women in the East End, before welcoming Robert Chaloner to the stage who said that the Breast Center, which just celebrated the opening of a dedicated entrance, is the “jewel in the hospital’s crown.”

Grand Opening Of Bluemercury Chelsea

This past Saturday, April 11th Blue Mercury, a high-growth luxury retail chain, opened their newest location in Chelsea, New York. Blue Mercury offers both beauty products and spa services. You can find over 100 beauty brands for men and women such as Clinique, Bobbi Brown, and Laura Merceir. At their spa, you can get anything from facials, esthetic treatments such as brow styling, and body care treatments such as body massages.

I had the pleasure of attending the opening of Blue Mercury where I was treated like a celebrity.  When I walked into the store that is located on Avenue of Americas, I was surrounded by blue balloons and a vibrant atmosphere of people that were willing to help me.  I was told that I was going to be treated to a mini facial and have my makeup done. Unfortunately, I got there a little late but the first one hundred people to attend the event got a gift bag filled with goodies.

Before starting my facial, I was treated to some champagne and delicious cupcakes. What a great way to start off! The facial that I was given felt extremely refreshing on my face and the beauty expert also gave me tips on how to make my face look its best. After completing my facial, my face immediately looked hydrated and was glowing. Another beauty expert worked on my makeup and also gave me tips on what products to use and how to use them. My makeup was done beautifully and looked very natural where I couldn’t get over how perfect the foundation she used matched my skin tone. Both beauty experts made me feel comfortable and were warm and genuine.

I loved and was extremely satisfied with the results of my facial and makeup. Afterwards, I looked around the store and saw makeup, skin care products, bath and body products, and much more. This is the place to go to get some of the best beauty products. I will definitely be coming back to Blue Mercury in Chelsea to check out more of their spa services. I look forward to seeing the friendly employee faces of Blue Mercury and feel like a star once again!

The French Heritage Society was founded in 1982 and has been a huge success ever since, contributing to over 500 restoration grants and helping secure almost $18 million dollars for properties in France and to properties in the United States that reflect France’s historic influence. FHS has helped out after numerous natural disasters and also organizes unique student internship opportunities in both countries and offers enriching cultural trips in France and the U.S. for its members.

During the event, the additional Gala Chairs for the November event; Deborah Royce, Ann Vann Ness, Ursula Lower, Kazie Metzger and Jean Doyen de Montaillou were of the many guests that were in attendance. The elegant dressed trio accepted questions from attendees and explained what some of traditional projects are, while also noting how the French former Minister of Culture has recognized the Society for its important restorative work. Jean highlighted the scholarship program FHS funds, which allows both American and French architectural students to study on each other’s shores, and Cece talked about how FHS has forged a strong partnership between France and America through its work.

As the event came to an end, they then thanked attendees  and finished by reminding all guests that the real reason they were all there was to raise awareness of the forthcoming winter gala on November 18th.  Cocktails were raised to the Shafiroffs to thank them for hosting the event.

Exclusive Look Into RHONY Afterparty

NY Undressed was given exclusive access into the Real Housewives of New York after party. The party was held at Dorinda Medley’s (the RHONY new girl) boyfriends new private club of the name 557

Dorinda’s bf is John Mehdassian, the owner of luxe dry cleaner and UES mainstay Madame Paulette. It looks like  John will also be appearing on the show throughout the season, he even had a cameo during the first episode.

Now onto the good stuff…  Afterparties always have the good stuff. Everyone looked like they had plenty to drink at the premiere party as everyone was in good cheer and ready to dance the night away by the time they arrived.

Sonja Morgan was one of the first wives there and looked stunning in a see-through lace top and tuxedo pants. Later on in the evening she had partygoers mesmerized with her dance moves.

Luanne was there in high style and was dressed in a thigh length GORGEOUS fur overcoat. I mean this coat looked, and felt, amazing.

New housewife Dorinda looked perfectly at home hosting the evening and took time to take photos with everyone and made sure no cat fights broke out or glasses were tossed.

Overall everyone was on pretty good behavior.

The club itself had such a great vibe, a mix between soho house and a 1950’s smoking den. Not sure who was handling the playlist but props to them, it had everyone in a great mood and swaying away.

Enjoy the pics!

Everyone wants long, lavish lashes that will make our eyes stand out, but only the top mascaras can create that captivating look. And although you may feel hopeless to find the right mascara among the many out there, do not be afraid! You no longer have to worry about smudges or clumps, just mascara that gives you length and volume. These are the best mascaras that will completely change boring lashes into the lush lashes that you crave.

Here is our list of the top mascaras to use for 2015:

– Maybelline The Colossal Volum’ Express Mascara

maybelline

With this mascara, I found that it gives you gigantic lashes in just one brush. It’s great that you do not need to put on tons of coats to get that right amount of volume. I noticed that the color of this mascara is a lot darker than a lot of the others I have used, which really allows for your eyes to stand out. Overall, this mascara is a winner because it gives you that volume and length that most other products do not.

Find it at ULTA, $6.99

– Urban Decay Perversion

perversion This is an excellent clump free mascara. It has the perfect balance of smoothness, which is not too moist and not too dry, allowing it to move effortlessly right through your lashes. You can pack on coat after coat and never have crumply or clumpy lashes. Keep on reapplying through out the day as much as you want.

Find it at Sephora, $12.00

– Blinc Mascara

blinc Mascara that lasts all day is a must for me, and that’s exactly what this mascara does. It’s even water-resistant, so you can rub your eyes all you want without the irritation. Only with warm water will this mascara come off. If you wear contact lenses or have sensitive eyes, you have to try out this mascara because it will leave you tear free. Standing out from the rest, Blinc Mascara will give you a more natural look and all that you want in a mascara.

Restaurant Review: La Bodega Negra

0

Bringing some Mexican flavors to Manhattan, Bodega Negra is the perfect restaurant for a large group of people or even a date night.

Located in Chelsea, do not be fooled by the tiny exterior of this restaurant. Through the back you’ll find big red doors that will transport you to Mexico.

In the back of the restaurant there is a DJ, which makes the atmosphere kind of loud and lively but it still manages to have a cozy and comfortable feel to it. Bodega Negra is decorated beautifully. From the gigantic penny disco ball that hangs over the dining room to the wall of aged tequila cylinders and the dismantled pianos that hovers over the bar, there is something new and interesting to see everywhere you look.

While the restaurant was quite busy, the staff was very inviting and always made sure that everything was okay at the table. Besides the delicious cocktails, the food is just as tasty too.

For this restaurant, I suggest that you order a bunch of different items off of the menu to share. Definitely order the guacamole and the tacos, depending on the type of meat you like. Do not order the quesadilla, which is more like a Mexican pizza and super hot that it makes it hard to eat. Make sure to save room for desert and order the Don Huevo, which is a white chocolate ball that when you poor the mixture over reveals a chocolate brownie ice cream.

Some of the food such as the tacos may seem a little overpriced for the portion size, but overall the taste of the food is unlike anything you’ve ever had.

This is a restaurant that sure won’t disappoint you from it’s friendly staff, great tasting food, and festive atmosphere.

WHY ASTROLOGY?

0

So if you look up the definition of astrology, you will get some variation of this – “The study of the movements and relative positions of celestial bodies interpreted as having an influence on human affairs and the natural world.”

This is pretty much the case, I mean the dictionary doesn’t lie right?

I use astrology as a psychological tool, a way to figure myself out. We’re complicated individuals people! We have all these thoughts, feelings, emotions  going on inside our heads and it can often be hard to decipher them all. Why did I blow up at that person, why am I crying, why did he/she not text me, why can’t I just be normal, why am I so awesome at putting an outfit together but suck at networking  – these are all things we ask ourselves on a regular basis.

I use astrology to figure out my weaknesses and make them better, I also use it when I am going through a rough time psychologically and want to make some sense of why I’m feeling crazy.

I also use astrology to figure out my relationships, with my boyfriend, with my family and sometimes it can help to look at a friends chart to help you decipher your own chart.

I’ve studied astrology for about 10 years now, I got started when I was in high school and was having a hard time dealing with a few traumatic instances… Astrology is what put my young self back together and continues to be a continuous source of introspection and inspiration even today.

There are a few sites that I use to put my astro-tasking to work.

www.astro.com and www.astrotheme.com

I have accounts with both sites because they both offer easy access to storing charts, birthdates, names and so on and both are separately better at doing different things.

I use astrology because it makes sense to me. It’s been around for centuries, you know Ptolemy? He was one of the first originators of astrological thought.

The Babylonians were some of the first to observe the stars up there and developed the seedlings for the mind-stars relationship. Later, Socrates, Plato and further down the line Aristotle, gave astrology it’s soul and a lot of it carried on.

Concern for the well-being of the soul and the movement away from the sometimes frivolous and self-serving antics of the pantheon of Greek gods began with Socrates, a concept which didn’t end well for Socrates but was clearly internalized by Plato nonetheless.  In The TimaeusPlato expressed his view of the creation and structure of the cosmos, imbuing it with intelligence, benevolence, and moral character which permeated its entire fabric with the essence of its creator, albeit an impersonal God, but divine nonetheless.[2]  This was a considerable step because it not only moved away from multiple deities toward monotheism but also took astrology to a more soul-centered level which could benefit the individual’s personal development and earthly sojourn.

Plato believed that the order found in the heavens was a mirror of divine reason, making it of paramount importance and worthy of study.  While he recognized the vast knowledge the Babylonians had accrued with regard to planetary motion, he nonetheless had little regard for observations alone when they lacked theory and mathematical backing.[3]  These missing ingredients Pythagoras and Plato proceeded to provide, opening the astrological world to the Greeks in a philosophical language they could implement into their lives, specifically on a moral level.
