Palm Beach Modern + Contemporary Cements Status as a Leading International Art Fair

In the coming week, I will be posting about an art fair held in New York running May 3 -7. This event this article covers was held a few months ago. The close proximity  of these events being covered is good – both events are produced by Art Miami. The realization that people are drawn to art, all over, is obvious and promising. Please enjoy reading about this particular art experience!

Celebrating its inaugural year, the Palm Beach Modern + Contemporary (PBM+C) art fair, presented by Art Miami LLC and sponsored by the City of West Palm Beach, opened its doors on Thursday January 12th and continued through the 15th, and was immediately recognized as a leading international contemporary and modern art fair. Attendance of prestigious art collectors, connoisseurs, advisors and notable museum professionals surged through the weekend, while galleries reported significant sales of investment quality blue chip, contemporary and Post-War works.

More than 17,500 attendees, including Tommy Hilfiger and NFL legend Joe Namath, admired work from nearly one-thousand artists presented by more than fifty international galleries throughout the four days. Six thousand guests attended the fair’s VIP preview, which was sponsored by Christie’s International Real Estate and benefitted The Palm Beach Zoo & Conservation Society, to which Mr. Korniloff presented with a check for $25,000 at the VIP opening on behalf of the Fair.

Crowds flocked to the tent site to see important works on display from renowned artists such as Josef Albers, John Chamberlain, Pablo Picasso, Andy Warhol and Keith Haring, with many dealers reporting sales within the first hour of the fair, including Cultural Council Spotlight Luncheon speaker artist Bernie Taupin, who placed three major works before 6pmduring the VIP Preview through Waterhouse & Dodd.

Mrs. Audrey Gruss said, “The Palm Beach Modern + Contemporary fair has a wonderful energy and resonates with the excitement of finding young artists. I was drawn to the work of a young Japanese artist, Hidenori Tsumori from the Yufuku Gallery in Tokyo, and feel that it can hold its own among our collection of well-known modern and contemporary artists.”

The fair’s ownership team presented Mrs. Ruth Baum with a portrait of her and her husband Ted Baum by breakout visual and recording artist ABH (Al-Baseer Holly). The portrait was given as a sign of appreciation for their philanthropy to the arts, The Palm Beach Zoo & Conservation Society, and their continued support of the Art Miami group of fairs run by Mr. Korniloff. The commissioned portrait of the Baums introduced the “Portraits for Perry” project, where ABH will donate 50% of sales from commissioned portraits to the Perry J. Cohen Foundation (PJCF), who will use the proceeds to fund the “Perry J. Cohen Wetlands Laboratory at Jupiter Community High School.”

Prior to the VIP Opening, the PBM+C kicked-off with Spotlight Luncheon in 2017: Evolution of an Artist, on Tuesday, January 10th. Presented by the Cultural Council of Palm Beach County at the Kravis Center’s Cohen Pavilion, life-long creative Bernie Taupin discussed his career and evolution as an artist. A special selection of Mr. Taupin’s works were on exhibit and for sale, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the Cultural Council and the Perry J. Cohen Foundation.

On Saturday, January 14th, the fair hosted the First Annual Professional Achievement in the Arts Award, an invitation-only cocktail event, honoring Bruce Helander. He has been a resident of Palm Beach County for the last 34 years, is a nationally recognized artist, curator and writer, a member of the Florida Artists Hall of Fame, and a former White House Fellow of the National Endowment for the Arts. ANDY VALMORBIDA, NEMO LIBRIZZI AND OREN JACOBY HOST PARTY HONORING RICHARD HAMBLETON FOR THE TRIBECA FILM FESTIVAL PREMIER OF SHADOWMAN

New York, NY – April 22, 2017 – Last night, Andy Valmorbida, Nemo Librizzi, and Oren Jacoby celebrated the Tribeca Film Festival premiere of Shadowman, a time capsule of a forgotten New York City era, and a redemption story of the godfather of street art, Richard Hambleton.  The after party was held at the new San Remo Café, located at 201 Lafayette Street at Petrosino Square in New York.

In the early 1980s, Hambleton was New York City’s precursor to Banksy, a rogue street artist whose silhouette paintings haunted the sides of Manhattan buildings. Like so many others of his time, he fell victim to drug addiction as his work continued to rise in both demand and value. He is still living and making work in the Lower East Side.

Guests spanning the film, fashion and art milieu celebrated Richard Hambleton’s legacy, including: Michael Avedon, Katya Bankowsky, Ann Dexter-Jones, Logan Horne, Young Kim, Rick Librizzi, Josh de Lisser, Maripol, Clara Mathilde McGregor, Eric Mitchell, Mia Moretti, John Newsom, Meredith Ostrom, Michael Phelan, Sophie Plimpton, Polina Proshkina, Vladimir Restoin Roitfeld, Eniko Mihalik, Julia Restoin Roitfeld, Micol Sabbadini, Eve Therond, Nora Vai, Ouattara Watts, Tyrone Wood

Richard Hambleton was born in Vancouver in 1954, currently living and working in the Lower East Side of New York City. He is the surviving member of a group of emerging artists from the 1980s including Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat. His earliest notorious works are from the “Image Mass Murder” concept between 1976-79 on the streets of 15 major cities in the US and Canada, and his “Shadowman” paintings across hundreds of buildings in New York City, Paris, London, Rome and the Berlin Wall.  Hambleton’s work has been shown internationally, in the Venice Biennale in 1984/88, and in numerous permanent collections including MoMA.  He is represented by Andy Valmorbida and frequently shown at Woodward Gallery in New York.

Andy Valmorbida is the lead investor for the film Shadowman, a curator and entrepreneur, closely tied to the artist Richard Hambleton and his work.  Valmorbida’s career re-focused from finance to the arts in 2006.  Known as the pioneer of the art gallery pop up, Valmorbida held over 45 pop-up exhibitions in 12 different countries and has collaborated with the Moscow Museum of Modern Art, the Serpentine Gallery, Phillips, Belstaff, Puff Daddy, Jimmy Iovine, Bombardier Aerospace, Amfar among many others.  In 2009, Valmorbida and Vladimir Restoin Roitfeld collaborated with Giorgio Armani on the exhibition “Richard Hambleton – New York” where thirty five pieces of Hambleton’s work spanning from the early 80s to the present were shown side-by-side, and all works sold.

Nemo Librizzi is a New York arts and cultural icon, curator, artist, filmmaker, DJ and advisor. He is the son of the artist, poet and art dealer Rick Librizzi, a contemporary of Warhol, Basquiat, Haring and Schnabel.  Nemo is a long-time collaborator with Andy Valmorbida, curating multiple pop-up gallery shows and making the first introduction to the artist Richard Hambleton.  Librizzi is credited as a creative consultant on major projects including Jim Jarmusch’s films Ghost Dog and Broken Flowers, among others.  Nemo is the Cultural Director of the art program at San Remo Café.

Celeb Moms Host Celebration for Lyss Stern’s Book “Motherhood Is a B#tch! 10 Steps to Regaining Your Sanity, Sexiness, and Inner Diva”

“Mom-bassadors”, Veronica Webb, June Ambrose, Keri Glassman, and Heba Abedin hosted acelebration marking the publication of Lyss Stern’s parenting manual, “Motherhood Is a B#tch!: 10 Steps to Regaining Your Sanity, Sexiness, and Inner Diva” at Upper East Side ice-cream spot Cool Mess on April 18th.

The book, which is introduced by Jill Kargman is Lyss second book, and she was joined by friends including, Stacy Kestin, Lisa Levin, Alison Zipes, Dawn Goldstein, Sheryl Burke, and Bonnie Marcus. Midway through the event Lyss gathered the attendees to make a speech talking about her inspiration for writing the book and her journey through motherhood.  She said, “My dear friend Sheryl and I were having coffee at 8 in the morning and it was just pure madness. The emails were going off and everyone wanted everything and I just had it. I put my foot down and said ‘You know what, Motherhood is a Bitch’ and then Sheryl shouted, ‘ That’s it! That’s your next book!’ and the journey began.” She then thanked everyone for attending and showing their support and ended with, “Everyday of this journey there’s something else that comes our way and we have to put a smile on our face and do what we need to do. So, hopefully this book empowers you to sometimes put your foot down and say no, raise above and feel beautiful inside and out.”

Motherhood is a B#tch, a follow up to Stern’s 2009 best-seller, If You Give a Mom a Martini… 100 Ways to Find 10 Blissful Minutes for Yourself, is the modern mom’s guide for dealing with the day-to-day chaos of child rearing with style, savvy and grace. The book provides an easy, light-hearted program to empower frazzled moms to channel their inner b#tch and seize control of their lives. Stern tells it like it is, explaining how women can lose their sense of self once they have children and why it’s important to reclaim it.

Guests enjoyed “deLysscious” ice cream sundaes, cake designed by Danette Tagla, and cocktails including the Lyss’ signature B#tchtini made from with rosé, watermelon vodka and watermelon juice. Stern then encouraged people to ask questions, read the book and learn more about how they can help every mom through motherhood.

Thirteen years ago Stern founded Divalysscious Moms, a networking company specifically for moms, with cool, chic, kid-friendly activities like a grand opening of the Fendi Kids boutique on Fifth Avenue. There is usually swag in the form of gift bags, but most important, mothers get to have fun and meet other moms. Stern, who is the mother of three children ranging in age from toddler to teenager, tackles the toughest issues facing moms today drawing from personal experiences. She explains in 10 easily digestible steps how moms who may no longer recognize the person staring back in the mirror can regain their once fierce and fab self. “Being a bitch is not about ranting, raving or ripping someone’s head off for the fun of it,” explains Stern. “It’s about confidence and control and knowing when and where to dig your four-inch heels into the ground. It’s about standing up for yourself and giving voice to your needs and feelings. It’s about not being selfless or selfish, but striking the right balance between the two.”

Motherhood Is a B#tch is written for all moms – ranging from the stressed-out working mom to the harried stay-at-home mom – who have sacrificed their lives, careers, bodies and sanities to become mothers. The book provides helpful hints and tips to prioritize, organize and delegate. It was published on April 18, 2017 and is available from Barnes & Noble and Amazon.

Celebrate Spring New York was founded by G. Pennington Egbert III, his sister Missy Egbert Sheehan and their close friend Georgina B. Schaeffer whose fathers both lived with Parkinson’s disease. This core group joined together to engage the next generation of philanthropists, by creating the Young New Yorkers for the Fight Against Parkinson’s committee, a network of nearly 100 New Yorkers dedicated to advancing a cure for Parkinson’s. Each year, the committee hosts Celebrate Spring New York, which has brought countless young supporters into the fold to help fund the work of future leaders in Parkinson’s research and care.

The Parkinson’s Foundation is working toward a world without Parkinson’s disease. Formed by the merger of National Parkinson Foundation (NPF) and the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation (PDF) in August 2016, the mission of the Parkinson’s Foundation is to invest in promising scientific research that will end Parkinson’s disease and improve the lives of people with Parkinson’s and their families, through improved treatments, support and the best care.

This Massachusetts–based nonprofit offers outings on the sea for people and families facing serious health setbacks including cancer. The evening was dubbed “Cocktails & Couture.” The show featured the work of Norris, whose other clients include Diane Keaton and Naomi Watts and Rene Ruizwho said, “I drew my inspiration from fashions worn by some of Hollywood’s most glamorous stars such as Greta Garbo, Joan Crawford, Grace Kelly, Cary Grant and Gary Cooper.” The evening of nautical-inspired daywear walked the runway on professional models, courtesy of TRUE Model Management, and others who have benefited from Sailing Heals modeled evening wear.

A Chance in Life, founded in 1945 by Monsignor John Patrick Carroll-Abbing to provide in his words, “a chance in life” to vulnerable and orphaned children in post-World War II Italy. Seven decades later, BGTI’s unique approach of self-government has given a chance in life to more than 32,000 young people. In 2016, the organization was renamed to its current moniker, Boys’ & Girls’ in India where they support over 900 children living in extremely remote and poor tribal areas of Kerala. Monsignor Carroll-Abbing always said, “Wherever there are children suffering, we should be there.”

NYC Socialite Queen Relinquishes Her Palace

The full-floored apartment on the fifth floor of 1020 Fifth Avenue , facing the Metropolitan Museum, has been home to socialite and philanthropist Georgette Mosbacher for the past 25 years. But now I guess it’s time to say goodbye, because Georgette just listed her apartment for a cool 30 million, according to the New York Times.

The apartment boasts  close to 5,000 square footage and is full of eloquent architectural design. When Georgette Mosbacher first moved in, she gave the place a full renovation but wanted to keep its original beauty by preserving and restoring nuances like the grand salon’s painted coat of arms, three wood-burning fireplaces, hardwood floors, and embellished doors.  With 20-foot ceilings, this apartment is truly fit for a queen and a host of large personalities.

Over the years, Mosbacher has opened her home to the world’s elite  during lavish parties,  fundraisers and dinner parties. But WHO is Georgette Mosbacher? She is a woman with a very lengthy and diversified resume including business executive, entrepreneur, political activist, author,  philanthropist, and socialite. She is the definition of an empowering woman.

Feminine force is that inner strength, that power, that will to face down any negative circumstances in life and defeat them.

– Georgette Mosbacher
