The New Years Resolution We Make Every Year : Be Healthy, and How to Actually Follow Through

0

As all the gifts have been given and unwrapped and the festivities of Christmas and  Hanukkah are now over, it’s time for us to contemplate New Years. Each year, we  make resolutions for the new year on how we want to improve ourselves and our lifestyle. For  many of us, the major resolution is usually to lose weight or be healthier.

Now,  the phrase “be healthy” can be interpreted in so many ways such as to lose weight or to eat organic and gluten-free, and that is why it is important that at the beginning of your be healthy resolution, you define what healthy is to you. Don’t look to others or to celebrities, but to your own mind and body to reflect on what it is that you want yourself to be.

For me, being healthy is  giving my body everything that it needs nutritionally in order to function properly. In addition, our bodies crave movement, so it’s very important that we exercise. And last but not least, sleep is one of the best things you can do for you mind and body, because we need rest to continue our busy lives everyday.

First Healthy Tip : TAKE VITAMIN SUPPLEMENTS

As two-time Nobel Peace Prize winner Dr.Linus Pauling stated, “Nearly all disease can be traced back nutritional deficiency.”  Now while that quote is slightly scary, it brings to the forefront how IMPORTANT nutritional balance is specifically in terms of vitamins and minerals in the body. Unfortunately, today its hard to get all of our needed daily vitamin and mineral intake from the food we take.

This little color wheel shows all the daily needed vitamins and how to get them from food. I for one know I can’t always fit everything in into my meals, so that’s why I take a daily multi-vitamin.   Courtesy of Dr. Oz

Second Healthy Tip: PEDOMETERS ARE YOUR FRIENDS

Download the app Pacer for your iPhone or buy a pedometer. These gadgets track your daily steps, so you can see how much you are really moving per day. The daily recommended number is 10,000 steps! This may seem like a lot, but if you’re active and moving about the number is easier to reach than you think. It’s so important that we don’t live sedimentary lives, so start tracking and get walking!

Third Healthy Tip : GO TO BED

Many of us live crazy hectic lives partly due to work, school, families  and whatever else we’ve got going on. Even in all this craziness, it’s  important that we don’t deprive our bodies from the rest it deserves. Seriously, try to get at least 7 hours of sleep every night, and on the weekends allow yourself to sleep in an extra hour or two (it won’t hurt anybody!)

I hope you’ll use these three tips when making and implementing your Be Healthy New Years Resolution. And hey, if it doesn’t work out this year, there’s always the next!

550 Madison Ave is Dripping in Crystals and Couture

0

parsons_fashion_window_display_015550 Madison Avenue is the new it-window display this holiday season, available now to see through January 4th. Parsons School of Design MFA students were asked to create pieces for the building’s window holiday display in collaboration with Swarovski, the Austrian luxury cut-crystal producer. The collection brings sparkle, luxury and elegance to the previously bare windows of this iconic postmodern Midtown skyscraper. The organizers of this installation are excited to be a part of the New York City holiday window display tradition, and hope that New Yorkers and tourists alike will stop and marvel at Swarovski inspired fashion couture.

“It is quite a thrill for our students, and we cannot thank the new owners of 550 Madison Avenue enough for giving them this extraordinary opportunity” – Burak Cakmak, Dean of Fashion at Parsons School of Design.

This installation isn’t the first time that Parsons Fashion students displayed their work in a Manhattan window display. This past June, 37 seniors from the BFA Fashion Design program were asked to display their work in five storefront windows at Saks Fifth Avenue, on 50th street.

img_9745One Senior whose work was displayed reflects on the Saks 5th Ave opportunity: “After putting my blood, sweat, tears, and soul (all quite literally) into my thesis collection, seeing my designs proudly standing within Saks Fifth Avenue is a true dream. Having my work recognized on such a high level by such an esteemed company has reinforced and strengthened my drive to continue to explore and create.” – Aven Helford, BFA Fashion Design 2016

img_9731Parsons School of Design, located at 66 5th Avenue, is a global leader in art and design education, with programs that span the full range of design disciplines. The University has an amazing Alumni network which include but are not limited to Tom Ford, Marc Jacobs, Kay Unger and Alexander Wang. It’s amazing to see student’s work popping up around the city, and our team at NY Undressed can’t wait to see their next design display.

Celebrities on the Subway

It is pretty neat that public transportation exists. It is very helpful in places like NYC. It is so helpful and commonplace that the subway and NYC are like peanut butter and jelly.  Here is a link with pictures of people you have heard about in the news or on other media in one of the last places you would think to look for them:

New York Film Critics Name LA LA Land – Best Film 2016

0

The New York Film Critics Circle has released their picks for top flicks and an outsider won out – early reviews showed a leaning toward Manchester by the Sea, a melancholy drama directed by Kenneth Lonergan starring Casey Affleck and Michelle Williams.

However, the odd ball that most assumed would be without substance, as some would say about its namesake, turned out to be the winner of the coveted Best Film Award.

Written and directed by Academy Award® nominee Damien Chazelle, LA LA LAND tells the story of Mia [Emma Stone], an aspiring actress, and Sebastian [Ryan Gosling], a dedicated jazz musician, who are struggling to make ends meet in a city known for crushing hopes and breaking hearts. Set in modern day Los Angeles, this original musical about everyday life explores the joy and pain of pursuing your dreams.

The ANGELS are here, well, in Paris

The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show is taking place tonight in Paris! Though it won’t make it to our screens until December 9th.

The highlight of the evening, besides the gorgeous models, is the annual fantasy bra. This years addition comes in at a cool $3 Million and even has a name – Bright Night. The lucky Angel to grace her body with the fantasy bra is none other than model Jasmine Tookes. This is what she had to say about the stunner “It is so beautiful. It’s covered in white diamonds and emeralds and it has about 9,000 gemstones. It cost $3 million — so stunning.”

AP’s Thomas Adamson, spoke to Tookes backstage while getting her hair done, and mentions that Tookes said the garment was constructed on a mold of her upper body, literally made to measure.

The Angels have been busy documenting their travels to Paris and their preparation for the big show on instagram:
