The Clarion Music Society Presents the Clarion 60th Anniversary Masked Gala

On April 4th, The Clarion Music Society presented their 60th Anniversary Masked Gala at the JW Marriott Essex House where they raised over $100,000.

Following the cocktail hour, guests joined The Young Friends Committee Co-Chairs Andrea Desy and Daniel Levien as they headed into the ballroom for a seated dinner. Artistic Director, Steven Fox began the evening’s program by directing the nine-piece orchestra in a performance of the Larghetto from Mozart’s Piano Concerto K. 413 led by pianist Nimrod David Pfeffer. Mr. Fox then addressed the audience saying, “Clarion performs on period instruments that survive from the time of the composer, or on models thereof – in fact, the piano that is being played tonight is an exact replica of one of Mozart’s instruments, which belongs to Queens College.” He then introduced tenor Mario Chang who performed a solo, followed by a solo from soprano Lauren Snouffer before the pair performed the Act II duet fromL’elisir d’amore, with the orchestra’s accompaniment, while Mr. Chang comically ‘played’ a bottle of wine to ripples of laughter. Baritone Yunpeng Wang then performed an aria from Tchaikovsky opera Pique Dame, ‘Ya vas Lyublyu’, before the program continued.

Celebrate Spring New York was founded by G. Pennington Egbert III, his sister Missy Egbert Sheehan and their close friend Georgina B. Schaeffer whose fathers both lived with Parkinson’s disease. This core group joined together to engage the next generation of philanthropists, by creating the Young New Yorkers for the Fight Against Parkinson’s committee, a network of nearly 100 New Yorkers dedicated to advancing a cure for Parkinson’s. Each year, the committee hosts Celebrate Spring New York, which has brought countless young supporters into the fold to help fund the work of future leaders in Parkinson’s research and care.

The Parkinson’s Foundation is working toward a world without Parkinson’s disease. Formed by the merger of National Parkinson Foundation (NPF) and the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation (PDF) in August 2016, the mission of the Parkinson’s Foundation is to invest in promising scientific research that will end Parkinson’s disease and improve the lives of people with Parkinson’s and their families, through improved treatments, support and the best care.

NYC Socialite Queen Relinquishes Her Palace

The full-floored apartment on the fifth floor of 1020 Fifth Avenue , facing the Metropolitan Museum, has been home to socialite and philanthropist Georgette Mosbacher for the past 25 years. But now I guess it’s time to say goodbye, because Georgette just listed her apartment for a cool 30 million, according to the New York Times.

The apartment boasts  close to 5,000 square footage and is full of eloquent architectural design. When Georgette Mosbacher first moved in, she gave the place a full renovation but wanted to keep its original beauty by preserving and restoring nuances like the grand salon’s painted coat of arms, three wood-burning fireplaces, hardwood floors, and embellished doors.  With 20-foot ceilings, this apartment is truly fit for a queen and a host of large personalities.

Over the years, Mosbacher has opened her home to the world’s elite  during lavish parties,  fundraisers and dinner parties. But WHO is Georgette Mosbacher? She is a woman with a very lengthy and diversified resume including business executive, entrepreneur, political activist, author,  philanthropist, and socialite. She is the definition of an empowering woman.

Feminine force is that inner strength, that power, that will to face down any negative circumstances in life and defeat them.

The Past Eight Years with the Obamas

I  like what president Obama did as president of the United States for 8 years. I felt tingles of inspiration when he said certain things. His words stated that he believed in humanity and the ability of anyone. Since the possibility our country offers is one of its primary attributes his leadership and ideas fit well with our people. He was an advocate of change and open mindedness. Sure, there are things you could list as faults but it’s not hard to like him. I’ve put together some intriguing photographs by Pete Souza along with a few other creative compilations as a way of commenting on his past 8 years in presidential office.

It’s all connected. I love the idea if people realized we were each other we wouldn’t be mean to others.  I don’t know really know what kind of person Trump is but I know that even if the worst happens, we will learn something – which makes whatever experience useful.

I have heard creative geniuses imagine structures like this. I have no idea what it is called or its function but my curiosity perked when I saw it.

Have you seen the meme of Obama shooting rainbows riding a unicorn? It’s mocking his treatment of gay marriage, which is why it is not included here. I do like that he advocated for love.

Our country’s time with him leading  is gone. I had tried to link his farewell speech to this post but could not get it to work. It was good and I would encourage you to watch it. The linked site also has the full transcript. It’s pretty neat.

I found another neat video. This one focuses on the enigma our country has before us. As expected from Obama, he is looking toward possibility. It will be best for us to be open as a people to what Mr. Trump has to offer, as he was doing in the blue light up machine. We  should all put ourselves on our to do list before we look outward.

Has New York City Lost Its Edge?

0

New-York-City-Skyline

The city that never sleeps might need to take a nap because numbers show its heading on a decline.

The city is actually less desirable than Detroit, Baltimore, Chicago and Birmingham, according to U.S. News & World Report.  New York was ranked No. 96, just ahead of Fresno, Stockton, Modesto and San Juan. These rankings were calculated based on a city’s job market, quality of live, living desirability and overall value.

This was not the first report released to demean New York from its previous glory. Although the city was previously thought to house endless job and career opportunities, recent analysis that this may not be necessarily true. WalletHub did an analysis on 2017’s Best and Worst Cities for Jobs. “After comparing the 150 most populated cities across categories such as professional opportunities, starting salary, commute time, and cost of living, WalletHub ranked New York City outside the top 100 best cities for jobs.”  Off the 150 cities analyzed, New York City ranked 122 for job opportunities.

Additionally,  the cost of living in New York City is nearly 70% higher than the national average after taking all expenses into account — housing costs, food prices, transportation costs and other living expenses, according to SmartAsset reports.

This all goes without saying, that New York is still a major cultural hub: Drawing people internationally with diverse cultures and languages, creating a very diverse and interesting city. But it is a concern that as New York prices become too expensive for New Yorkers, the natives leave and the internationals come in.

I am by no means an expert on this topic, but what is happening in New York is hard to ignore and beckons contemplation on what the future of this city will look like. So what do you think, has NYC lost its edge?

Attorney Aidala for New York

Aidala for New York

On January 9th, 2017 some of the best legal minds in New York headed to Red Hook to join leading trial lawyer Arthur Aidala at The Liberty Warehouse as he revealed his hopes and ambitions for his future political career.

The celebration, and fundraiser, provided Mr. Aidala an opportunity to bring together the closest people in his life to disclose his thoughts on what direction he is heading, following his filing of formal paper work with the State Board of Elections to start an exploratory committee for run for office.

Midway through the event, the band closed their set with a rousing performance of DJ Khaled’s ‘All I Do Is Win’ in front of a long wall projecting a moving image of the American flag, as Arthur’s Law Partner, the Honorable Barry Kamins introduced Harvard Professor and famed attorney Alan Dershowitz to the stage.

Mr. Dershowitz then introduced Mr. Aidala by saying, that “Arthur crosses political lines and reminds me of Mayor La Guardia in his ability to reach both Democrats and Republicans alike.” He joked around saying, “I am working with Arthur to teach him Yiddish. So far Arthur has only learnt one word – Gelt. This is also known by Italians as Soldi, or by Brooklynites as Moolah! I am hoping to raise a lot of Gelt for Arthur as, and I mean this seriously, every dollar raised is a dollar for Brooklyn, for New York, for the United States of America.”

Mr. Aidala then came to the stage as over 400 guests cheered and applauded the Italian-American Brooklyn-born and raised lawyer.  He expressed how overwhelmed he was by huge turnout considering he had not declared what office he was seeking.  He thanked his wife and law partner  Marianne E. Bertuna for “allowing Arthur to be Arthur” and spoke about how “being the Brooklyn District Attorney is a lifelong dream. At my core is a desire to make the world a better place — especially now I have a ten-week-old son and a ten-year-old son.” He also made clear he has ruled nothing out, including a run for New York State Attorney General.  “I love being a lawyer, I am exploring being able to serve in that capacity on a larger scale.” He concluded by saying, “I want to obtain results for everyday folks, and to support common sense ideas” as the audience broke into cheers and he exited the stage.

About Arthur L. Aidala Esq

Born and bred in Brooklyn, Aidala is one of New York’s leading trial lawyers and is the Founding Partner of Aidala, Bertuna & Kamins.
