Li-Lac’s 96th Year Legacy Continues by Opening a 6th Location on 7th Avenue in the West Village
     The iconic Li-Lac Chocolates brand, which has been faithfully serving New Yorker’s for almost a century, have opened their newest store in the West Village at 75 Greenwich Avenue. The beloved chocolate house started from a modest shop on Christopher Street founded by French-trained George Demetrius in 1923 and still employs original cooking methods and time-honored recipes, handcrafting gourmet small batch chocolates and confections. Li-Lac Chocolates showcases one of the largest selections of fresh, gourmet chocolate in the country with over 120 unique offerings.
     The new store location was a bit of a passion project for the Li-Lac Chocolates team, as when they were unable to renew their lease for the Jane Street shop they went on a search determined to stay in their home of the West Village, and as luck would have it found a larger space overlooking the bustling city streets and surrounded by luxury shops and destinations including Nordstrom’s Local and Equinox. The expansive 800 square-foot store will feature a 14 ft. chocolate case displaying all their signature favorites including butter crunch, walnut caramel bars, dark chocolate glace orange slices, and French mints, all made with high levels of real cocoa and cocoa butter to ensure the highest quality bite. An on-site chocolate tempering wheel will be churning out select Li-Lac staples such as their dark chocolate almond bark. The shop will also carry their full line of chocolate assortments, NY-themed chocolate gifts and specialty holiday molds from chocolate pumpkins and turkeys to giant Santa’s. A hot chocolate bar will be spotlighted as one enters the shop, where guests can enjoy signature hot and iced Li-Lac sipping chocolate perfect for the upcoming holiday season.
     To celebrate the new store opening, Li-Lac Chocolates is winding back the clock to 1923, the year of the brand’s inception featuring the original prices. On Saturday, October 19th from 11:00am – 5:00pm, the store will be hosting a grand opening event where guests will be able to enjoy chocolate mousse rolls, almond bark, their legendary fudge, coconut clusters and pecan chews for 23 cents apiece. The first 100 customers will also be able to purchase 1 pound of almond bark as well as 16-piece truffle assortment boxes each for $9.23. The special offerings are limited to one per customer. Apart from the delicious chocolate deals, the grand opening will include live music highlighting oldie hits as well as free hot chocolate and fun holiday characters.
     Li-Lac Chocolates, which has five other locations scattered across the Big Apple including Hudson Yards, Greenwich Village, Grand Central, Chelsea Market and the factory/store at Industry City, Brooklyn, is a New York legend never succumbing to fads and standing by their tried and true chocolate and confection making techniques.

Come and Rediscover Chola – Authentic Regional Indian Restaurant Gets New Menu & New Look After 20 Years
      Concept: Chola, the acclaimed two-star New York Times reviewed Indian restaurant, has been reinvigorated with a new menu and interior, bringing regional Indian recipes beloved by a population of over a billion people. The revitalized concept is the brainchild of original owner Shiva Natarajan (Sahib, Dhaba, Malai Marke, Chote Nawab, Thelewala and many others), who has now passed it on to his protégé new owner Min Bhujel, while remaining as a guide to oversee the success of the restaurant. Bhujel has been Natarajan’s right-hand man for over a decade and holds a special place in his heart, working beside him at a number of his celebrated Indian restaurants, many of which have been well received by critics and customers alike. As New York City continues to see more modern, fusion Indian restaurants pop up, Chola holds on tight to its roots and integrity of serving traditional Indian cuisine.
     While Natarajan has always been a guide for his former employees, helping them to open their own successful restaurants throughout the country, he has always had a very special connection to Chola and Bhujel. Chola, which opened in 1998, has been marked as an Indian dining destination for 20 years. Bhujel and his team are looking to enhance the restaurant’s already sterling reputation with a more challenging and inventive menu, and exceptional service, with select recipes from Natarajan’s upcoming untitled cookbook set to hit stores in 2020.
     Cuisine: Natarajan grew up in India and his new menu items at Chola are inspired by his culinary journey around the coast, placing an emphasis on the flavors he came across during his travels. New starters include the Cafreal Paneer Tikka, a house made fire grilled cheese fresh from the Tandoor oven that comes out smoking with green masala; Karela Karare, a fried bitter gourd with smoky paprika for a sharp bite; Kodi 58, Chola chicken fry with house blend spices; Khekda Nariyal, a sautéed crab dish with coconut and mustard seeds that will have guests fighting over the last spoonful; Jhinga Koliwada, shrimp fry from the fisherman Koli tribe; and perfectly spiced Scallops Caldin in a Goan yellow coconut curry.
     Entrées spotlighted on the menu include Meen Moilee, a light and flaky Branzino with turmeric, coconut and curry leaves, topped with green banana chips; Lata Shetty’s Yeti Ajadina, Mangalorean style shrimp with fresh coconut and pounded spices; Malvani Rus-Golichi Amti, a fish of the day curry with kokum from red chili paste; Konkani Chimbori Masala, roasted coconut and tamarind crab; Lobster Ghee Roast with a spicy red pounded masala for a powerful and juicy bite; and a Chola favorite with the Crab Butter Pepper Masala.
     Natarajan has also updated some of his Chola classic dishes including Golbari Kosha Mangsho, a slow cooked bone-in goat roast from a Kolkata pada; Lata Shetty’s Kori Gassi, a creamy coconut chicken curry with red masala; and Dak Bungalow Murgh Curry, Colonial Sahib’s guest house bone-in chicken curry with potatoes.
      There are also a number of vegan dishes with standouts like Adrak ki Gobi Keema, minced cauliflower with green chilies and ginger; Doodhi Chana, white pumpkin with yellow chana dal; and Jeera Methi Alu, home style fresh fenugreek potatoes with roasted cumin.
      Sharable sides on the menu include their house made chutneys like Konkani Tomato Chutney with tempered onion seeds, green chilies and jaggery; Mangalorean Beerakaya Chutney with lentil ridge gourd mash, tamarind and curry leaves; and Kolkata Amm Chutney with sweet mango, paanch poran and black salt.
New to the menu is the bread station with Indian Flour Breads, which are freshly baked every day in their Tandoor oven stuffed with Old  Delhi Butter Chicken and Onion Green Chili.
                           All dishes on the menu incorporate special in-house oil infused with select herbs and flavored ghee.
Drinks: The cocktail program has been designed by one of the nation’s leading experts on distilled spirits and cocktails, Allen Katz. He is the Owner of the New York Distilling Company and previously hosted The Cocktail Hour for Martha Stewart on SiriusXM. His selection of cocktails includes Himalayan Sunset (Spring 44 vodka, King’s Ginger liqueur, mango puree and fresh lime juice) and East of Manhattan (Ragtime rye, La Copa sweet vermouth and saffron syrup). The restaurant also boasts a curated international wine list, which can be enjoyed by the glass or bottle, and pairs well with the Indian cuisine.
Desserts: A small menu of traditional Indian desserts can also be found with choices such as a homemade rice pudding and Indian-style ice cream known as kulfi.
Design: Inviting and warm, Chola’s walls are marbled with grey banquettes lining the restaurant. Old black and white photographs are hung throughout, featuring coastal scenes from Southern India to give a sense of the history behind the cuisine. A bar is anchored at the front of the room with gold lamps that hang above for a welcoming glow, and a mix of modern and traditional accents can be found throughout the restaurant, paying homage to Indian culture.

New York, September, 13, 2019 — Pace Gallery launched its new flagship in Chelsea with a spectacular
celebration. Legendary rock band The Who performed a rare acoustic set on the sixth-floor terrace in front of
A-list guests, which included a historic roster of Pace artists.

DJ Questlove kicked off the night by spinning on the terrace. At 9 PM, The Who performed a set of iconic songs,
including “The Kids Are Alright” and “Pinball Wizard.” To round out the night, Graham Reynolds’ band performed
under Fred Wilson’s chandeliers on the 7th floor.

On the runway were featured designers including TLZ L’FEMME, ANDRE EMERY, A SMALL COLLECTION, RON TOMSON, AUGUSTO MANZANERES and SHOKRALA with performances by FRANKLIN FUENTES and LEAH KATE.

Guests sipped on Hennessy and specialty Redbull cocktails through the evening while enjoying the evening of inspiring performances.

The Consulate General of Switzerland in New York presents “Blending Worlds;” an abstract paintings exhibition by American/Swiss artist Kelly. Originally from Tennessee, Fischer has lived in Switzerland for the past thirty years. The artist maintains strong connections in both countries; spending equal time at her Bern and Memphis studios.

“Blending Worlds” is the seventh edition of Art @ The Consulate, a curatorial initiative by the Consulate General of Switzerland in New York to showcase the work of Swiss artists in the United States.

The embassy invites art lovers and collectors to follow Art @ The Consulate on social media #SwissArtNYC.

About the artist:

Originally from Tennessee, Kelly Fischer has lived in Switzerland for the past thirty years. She maintains strong connections in both countries, spending equal time at her studios in Bern & Memphis. Her paintings have been featured at numerous galleries and exhibitions, including Art Basel Miami, the Austrian Biennale, and the Venice Biennale. Aside from art, Kelly has published eleven children’s books and is the former founder and head of the English Montessori School of Bern.

Artist Statement:

I pursue shapes and colors. My semi-abstract, expressionist portraits tell a story of whimsical spontaneity. Based on an underpainting my art begins to emerge as color and texture are added layer by layer. The landscapes pull the viewer into a world of color, light, and emotion. My body of work has developed and evolved over time, with much of the outcome being driven by creative impulses.

The team that brought you celebrated New York City concepts Burke & Wills and The Manhattan Cricket Club will launch The Sundowner Yacht Club in Tulum, Mexico this New Year’s Eve. The new restaurant and cocktail bar will be helmed by renowned Executive Chef Stanley Wong(Spice Market), who has over 25 years in the culinary industry working throughout the world.
From October 3rd through October 8th, Chef Stanley Wong will be taking over the Burke & Wills kitchen for an exclusive preview of The Sundowner Yacht Club’s menu offerings, which will highlight Australian cuisine with Asian influences found throughout.
The five course tasting menu will be available for $65 with the option for a wine pairing from Australian wine producer Penfolds for $95.
Burke & Wills is located at 226 W 79th Street.
The Sundowner Yacht Club, Tulum
Launching on New Year’s Eve 2019, The Sundowner Yacht Club of Tulum, Mexico is designed to make you feel as if you are aboard a luxury yacht that has docked amidst the jungle. With an eco-conscious focus, the space will be built by local construction company Orgasmic Construction using completely sustainable materials such as coconut husks, sargassum bricks and palm tree wood for all major structures. Similarly, The Sundowner Yacht Club will utilize solar power, waste water recycling and natural rain water, as well as eliminate paper and plastic products from food and beverage service. All organic waste will go to a local farm who also will grow most of the produce for the kitchen. The Sundowner Yacht Club is a member of Pesca con Futuro, an organization who focuses on sourcing sustainable seafood.
To head the kitchen, consultant Heathe St. Clair (Sunburnt Cow, Burke & Wills, The Manhattan Cricket Club) has rejoined forces with Chef Stanley Wong, who was the consulting chef on Heathe’s first solo project and several more throughout the 00’s.
Chef Wong’s previous credits have included the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Hong Kong, where he spent five years leading a team of over 120 chefs; the Waldhotel Friedrichsruhe in Germany, where the restaurant gained a second Michelin star during his tenure; the Hotel Kronenhof in St. Moritz in Switzerland and the Palace of The Lost City in South Africa, where he was an integral part in the inauguration luncheon of Nelson Mandela, welcoming over 2000 dignitaries.
He served as the Executive Chef at Jean-Georges Vongerichten’s Spice Market in New York Cityand achieved three stars with the New York Times, and he opened three high-end restaurants in The Venetian Hotel in Macau. He also opened Holy Duck!, The Private Kitchen and Eastside Grill in Sydney and currently operates Culinart, a high-end catering and events company and a private Kitchen in Hong Kong.
He has been featured in several cooking shows throughout his career such as the Martha Stewart Show, ‘Chef on a Shoestring’ on CBS and ‘Go Ahead, Make my Dinner’ on the Discovery Channel amongst others.

Trattoria Italienne – How Trattoria Italienne Became the Restaurant it was Meant to Be

Italienne was opened in 2016 by Chef/Owner Jared Sippel. Through a gradual evolution, the restaurant has pivoted from its original concept, to a more casual, engaging, and accessible Trattoria Italienne. In spite of the change to a more casual format, the emphasis on great food, premium product and exemplary service remain paramount. Chef Jared stays true to the restaurant’s roots, taking diners on a journey to the intersection of Northern Italy and Southern France. Every dish has a history and every menu item has a story. The cuisine here is based on authentic dishes from these regions as well as the surrounding areas of the Mediterranean; showing connections between the Basque region of Spain, with Morocco and France, as well as showcasing the relationship of Austria and Slovenia with Northern Italy. It is not a random fusion of flavors from the Mediterranean but is crafted with skillful techniques and carefully considered influences, for the ultimate goal of transporting the diner with authentic flavors. Trattoria Italienne represents the culmination of Jared’s career and his training in the distinct regional cuisines of Northern Italy and Southern France. He lived and worked in Provence; his time at Frasca in Boulder, CO with Chef Mackinnon-Patterson immersed him in the nuances of Friuli and Alto-Adige; and Quince’s Chef Tusk exposed him to the region of Piemonte. It’s all come full circle at Trattoria Italienne.
Chef Biographies
 Jared Sippel, Executive Chef/Proprietor: Originally from Iowa, Jared was raised with strong connections to food and farming, with family who grew produce, raised livestock, and owned local restaurants. Jared cooked throughout high school and worked as a sous chef at an Italian restaurant while attending the University of Iowa. Upon graduating, he moved to Boulder, CO to attend the Culinary School of the Rockies, and work at the James Beard Award winning Frasca Food & Wine under renowned chef Lachlan Mackinnon-Patterson. To broaden his palate and further educate himself on European cuisine, Jared headed straight to the source, where he spent several months living and working at 2-Star Michelin L’Oustau de Baumaniere in Provence and staging across Italy at Michelin starred restaurants including La Primula and La Subida in Friuli as well as La Peca in Veneto. It was during this time that the majority of the inspiration behind Trattoria Italienne was derived, from menus to wine lists and aesthetics. Once back in the States, Jared returned for a second tour at Frasca, before moving to San Francisco to serve as Sous Chef at the 3-Star Michelin Quince under Chef Michael Tusk. After two years, he was called back to Frasca once again to assume the role of Chef de Cuisine. Finally, Jared moved to New York City with his wife Lindsey and opened Italienne in 2016.
Daniel Lucero, Chef de Cuisine: Born and raised in Santa Fe, New Mexico Daniel began cooking at a young age, flipping omelettes with his father. This ultimately led him to Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in Scottsdale, Arizona. After training, he worked as a Chef de Partie at Thomas Keller’s Bouchon Bistro in Las Vegas. After a few years, he joined the team at 3-Star Michelin Joel Robuchon Restaurant in The Mansion at the MGM Grand and was quickly promoted to Sous Chef. In 2015, he moved to New York City, and eventually landed a Sous Chef position at 1-Star Michelin Aureole under Chef Gabriele Carpentieri. Excited about the idea of being part of a restaurant opening as well as whole animal butchery and Italian cooking, Daniel signed on at Italienne in 2016 as a Sous Chef. One year later he was promoted to Executive Sous Chef and now heads the kitchen as Chef de Cuisine.
Design
 The restaurant is divided into two rooms. In the front room, the large bar has a wood and marble counter and plenty of room to enjoy a drink and a bar snack or a full meal. An impressive lighting fixture with giant bulbs hangs from thick ropes over the bar. The feel of the restaurant is rustic and expansive, with high ceilings and exposed wood beams. In the dining room, leather banquettes wrap around the room, with copious space between tables—a rare commodity in a Manhattan restaurant. Cozy wooden booths backed with blue upholstery put you at the center of the action, while also allowing for some privacy. Overall, there’s lots of room for large groups. The space is ideal for parties, special events and special occasions. There’s also a cozy wine cellar room for private dining.
Food
Trattoria Italienne now offers an extended Aperitivo Hour (see schedule below), featuring greats deals on beer, wine, and the spritz of the day (bitter liqueur, Prosecco and Brooklyn seltzer), and a selection of Stuzzichini, traditional bar snacks such as Gilda, the original Basque pintxo—Manzanilla olive, Guindilla pepper, and Spanish anchovy on a skewer, Gigante Beans, mixed Spiced Nuts with a spice rub from Trieste (which includes paprika, reflecting the Austrian and Germanic influences on that region), and a selection of Marinated Olives with Herbes de Provence. Also available during Aperitivo Hour are plates to be shared, including Burrata with grilled sourdough, Polpettini, pork meatballs with soft polenta and Calabrian chili agrodolce, and several other options. Guests are encouraged to try an aperitif or Italian bitter from the extensive selection with their bar snacks.

Beverages
Wine is taken seriously and is an important part of the experience. Hand-picked by Chef Jared and the wine team with a generous, modestly priced list of sparkling, white, rose and red wines from France and Italy by the glass as well as an intriguing list of wines by the bottle, and well-priced house wines. Featured cocktailsinclude Peat Piemonte, Bank Note blended Scotch, 10-year Ardbeg Scotch, Cardamaro, ginger, lemon, seltzer, a smoky, yet refreshing highball, Regal Bees (a twist on Bee’s Knees) Cimarron tequila, lemon, honey, oro blanco grapefruit twist. The Navin Johnsonis a twist on an Old-Fashioned, built with Four Roses yellow bourbon, Ramazzotti, crème de cacao (for sweetness instead of sugar, which adds depth, another layer of flavor) garnished with orange peel. You Had me at Aloe is bright and refreshing, with a surprising flavor of cucumber and mint, and is composed of Aviation gin, aloe liqueur, lime, and agave. Look for the rolling drinks cart, outfitted with an impressive array of Amaros, aperitifs, digestifs, and grappa.
Almost everything is designed to be shared, and many signature dishes have remained on the menu since the opening. The culinary journey may begin with the Fougasse (a secret menu item with limited availability), a typical Provencal bread, the first form of focaccia and a precursor to pizza, typically stuffed with olives, herbs or other ingredients. The current version is loaded with slow roasted tomatoes, but the filling changes with the season. From the Salumi and Formaggio portion of the menu, thinly sliced Proscuitto San Daniele from Fruili is served with grissini (long, crisp housemade breadsticks) fresh shaved horseradish and European butter. If you haven’t eaten prosciutto with this combination of ingredients, you are in for a treat and a revelation. Dishes to be shared with the table, Per la Tavola, include the popular Polpo Alla Plancha, a Basque country classic with other influences: the tender grilled octopus is presented with gigante beans, olives, Sicilian capers and Moroccan harissa. Another item to share is the incredible Italian Chicory Salad, available year-round, prepared with radiccio from various regions of Italy. Made with two types of bagna cauda (anchovy dressing— one broken (non-emulsified), one not, one with white vinegar, one with red and black truffle vinaigrette. More than the sum of its parts, the bitter green combined with the unique dressing has an amazing umami—even people who don’t like anchovy love this salad. The garnish—currently red beets—changes seasonally. Then it’s on to the Pasta section of the menu. Highlights include: Spinach Pappardelle, with a Tuscan red-wine beef and chicken liver ragu with lobster mushrooms and Gnocchetti, delicate, light pillows of pasta that show their Northern Italian influences with a fonduta (cheese sauce) and Chanterelle mushrooms. This dish also changes with the seasons.
Above all—the large format dishes in Mare and Terra portion of the menu—allow the restaurant to provide a great experience to large parties. Campanelli Farm Roasted Chicken, feeds one to four people, a half or whole chicken with crispy skin, served with fingerling potatoes, piperade, provolone fonduta, roasted garlic and pimentón. Fazio Farms Duck (half or whole) is a duck lover’s dream come true, with duck served four ways: a tender breast, a crisp Platonic ideal of a confit leg, melt-in-the-mouth foie gras on a fig leaf, and shredded duck atop a crisp crostino with porcini conserva and black mission figs. Not to be beat by fowl, the 28-Day Dry Aged Grilled Cote de Boeuf, is a 36-ounce Creekstone Prime beef ribeye served with Yukon potatoes, cippolini onion, and pickled horseradish. Once grilled, the ribeye is placed in a wooden box to rest, with charcoal-fired and fresh rosemary, for an incomparable smoky herbal finish. Side dishes include a lovely, tender heirloom Broccoli di Ciccio with pecorino and hot pepper.Desserts include a changing roster of silky-smooth housemade gelati and sorbetti, pannacotta, bread pudding, affogato and other irresistible treats. While everything is available a la carte, you can also request a Chef’s Tasting Menu with or without wine pairings.

On Saturday, August 3rd, the Southampton Hospital Foundation hosted the 61st Stony Brook Southampton Hospital Annual Summer Party under air-conditioned tents in the fields at Wickapogue Road and Old Town Road, Southampton.

The renowned Summer Party is one of the largest fundraising events in the Hamptons, and this year raised over $1.5 million through the generous support of its honorees, donors and guests. The variety of colors and styles it inspires the guests to wear represents the type of function the event performs.

Over 700 benefactors attended in support of the Jenny & John Paulson Emergency Department which is the first Level III Trauma Center on the East End and services the community 24/7, year round. In 2018, the ED had over 21,900 visitors, with almost half those visits occurring during Memorial Day through Labor Day.

This year’s party honored philanthropists Jean & Martin Shafiroffand was emceed by lead news anchor at WNBC Chuck Scarborough. The who’s who of Southampton attended including: Marigay Mckee, CEO and Founder, MM Luxe Consulting, Fern Mallis, Fashion Icon, Rolanda Watts, Actress, and Designers Sachin & Babi Ahluwalia, who were this year’s Fashion Chairs. Other VIP guests also attended the event and enjoyed signature cocktails, sumptuous dining and opulent décor by Lawrence Scott Events with music by Groove Society.
