0

NEW YORK CITY – Hashimoto Contemporary is pleased to
present In Formation, a group exhibition curated by
Jennifer Rizzo. The exhibition brings together a group of
artists who emphasize the use of geometric shapes and
organic forms in their work.

The Exhibit is on view from Saturday, February 8th, 2020 – Saturday, February 29th, 2020

Following is a short description of participating artists, with a few images:

Brooklyn-based Scott Albrecht is perhaps best known for his cut, painted and assembled wood pieces, merging the artists interest in form, attention to detail and typography.

The playfulness and low-brow style of Oakland-based Jeffrey Cheung’s boldly colored contorted nude figures explore themes of queerness, identity and intersectionality.

Minnesota-based Gregory Euclide creates sculptural relief works, paintings, and installations. Euclide juxtaposes naturally occurring, organic matter with artificial, man-made materials and found objects to create works which resemble landscape paintings but defy categorization.

Mary Iverson (Her work is the feature photograph.) lives and works in Seattle, Washington. Her paintings explore the balance between the natural world and industrial activities, inspiring conversations about the causes and consequences of climate change.

Illinois-based Erik Jones utilizes elements of hyperrealism and geometric expressionism to investigate the figure, form and composition. Rendering his subjects in a hyperreal aesthetic, they are enshrouded within a colorful swell of shapes, color and form.

Erik’s Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/erikjonesart/

Augustine Kofie is a Los Angles-based artist, who creates works which harmonize opposing and contradictory dynamics, setting futuristic compositions against vintage earth-toned palettes. By doing so, the artist creates technically complex, meticulously structured formations through handmade line-work and layering.

Augustine’s Instagram:  https://www.instagram.com/keepdrafting/

Dan Lam, a Dallas, Texas-based sculptor and painter, explores color and form in her organically shaped sculptures. The artists engaging yet oddly unsettling sculptures highlight the artists fascination with color theory,
evoking otherworldly creatures in a visceral state between consumption and consummation.

Dan’s Instagram:  https://www.instagram.com/sopopomo/

San Francisco-based Sean Newport’s sculptures consider perceived notions of reality by creating a digital aesthetic through analog processes. Newport hand-cuts wood into three-dimensional shapes, which are brightly
painted and and arranged, unveiling patterns which emerge from unique geometric designs.

Please join us Saturday, February 8th from 6pm – 8pm for the opening reception of In Formation. Some of the artists will be in attendance. Mizu, A Japanese Restaurant

There is a hidden gem in Flatiron (29 E 20th St) serving high quality sushi named Mizu.

Mizu is the Japanese neighborhood favorite found right between Sugarfish and Rezdora that has been serving high quality sushi sourced from Japan for nearly a decade. The restaurant is owned by David Sunarto, a native of Indonesia who came to New York to immerse himself in the culinary world. Before opening Mizu, Sunarto worked his way through the ranks at Benihana and Haru learning the ins and outs of running a successful restaurant. When he opened Mizu he appointed Japanese trained Chef Nakao Hirakata, who previously served as the chef/owner of Mishima restaurant for over 20 years. Together Sunarto and Chef Hirakata have created a cozy and warm authentic Japanese dining experience.

Mizu does not compromise. They believe that high quality sushi should be available whether you’re on the go, dining in, or getting delivery. All their ingredients are carefully sourced from highly trusted purveyors.

Chef Hirakata (Hey San)

Mizu’s Cuisine

  • Crazy Toro Roll – spicy tuna and avocado inside topped with Cajun-seared toro, served with eel sauce, jalapeno and siracha.

PROHEALTH CARE HOSTS RIBBON CUTTING AND COMMUNITY DAY TO OPEN FIRST PEDIATRIC URGENT CARE IN MANHATTAN

ProHEALTH Care, the largest independent, physician-run health system in the nation, hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony to open the first pediatric-only urgent care in Manhattan on Thursday January 30, 2020. To welcome the new pediatric urgent care to the community, Council Member Ben Kallos joined Zeyad Baker, M.D., president & CEO of ProHEALTH Care, to cut the ribbon, along with Dr. Baker’s children.

Dr. Zeyad Baker and his two sons, Jad and Dean join Council Member Kallos to cut the ribbon to open the ProHEALTH Pediatric Urgent Care _ Credit Loel Park, on behalf of ProHEALTH Care

The new ProHEALTH Pediatric Urgent Care, located at 1601 Third Avenue, focuses exclusively on the care of children – from newborns to 18 years old – by a team of board-certified pediatricians who are specialized in urgent care. Open from 7:00 a.m. until 11:00 p.m., seven days a week, 365 days a year, the new Pediatric Urgent Care offers some of the longest hours in the city to see a pediatrician, which is good news for parents seeking medical attention for little ones.

“Kids get sick at all hours of the day and parents want access to a pediatrician who understands the medical needs of a younger patient,” says Zeyad Baker, M.D., president and CEO, ProHEALTH Care. “Most urgent cares don’t have a pediatrician on staff and waiting for a physician’s office to open or visiting an emergency room should not be the only options for patients to get pediatric care. In changing the model of care delivery and offering more specialized care centers, we can improve the quality of care to help people get better faster and return to their lives.”

President & CEO of ProHEALTH Care, Dr. Zeyad Baker, announces opening of the first pediatric urgent care in Manhattan _ Credit Loel Park, on behalf of ProHEALTH Care

Council Member Ben Kallos, a father of a young child, gave a heartfelt welcome to the new ProHEALTH Care Pediatric Urgent Care, remarking that his child never gets sick during regular office hours. The Council Member gave appreciation for the longer hours to see a pediatrician at the new urgent.

Also in attendance was a representative from Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney’s office to extend their welcome to the neighborhood and show support of the ProHEALTH Pediatric Urgent Care.

In addition to urgent care, the ProHEALTH Pediatric Urgent Care will provide camp, sports and school physicals, rapid test results, and onsite x-rays. Adding to the care –the pediatric Urgent Care will provide complimentary transportation for patients needing follow-up care.

In addition to the increase of extended hours and staff of pediatricians, the new ProHEALTH Care Pediatric Urgent Care improves access to care several ways. There is little to no wait time and patients have easy access through online booking and a fast kiosk sign-in. As the only urgent care network that is part of an integrated health system, the ProHEALTH Pediatric Urgent Care physicians can easily connect to over 1,000 providers should a patient need a specialist or a follow up visit- with most follow up appointments made within 24 hours. This critical continuum of care ensures families are given care that considers holistically their overall medical needs- not just those addressed in one visit.

For families wanted to check out the new ProHEALTH pediatric Urgent Care, they will host a special community day on Saturday, February 1, 2020 from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., featuring free screenings, giveaways, and activities for kids.

The new ProHEALTH Pediatric Urgent Care reflects the health system’s commitment to making healthcare more accessible and improving the patient experience. ProHEALTH Care is reinventing care delivery and has emphasized specialized care. In December 2019, ProHEALTH Care opened the Center for Neck and Back Pain to provide same-day services, which allow patients to be triaged, evaluated, diagnosed, and in most cases, receive treatment, all in one day. The new Urgent Care focused only on pediatric patients continues the organization’s promise to explore and implement new solutions to improve care, make it more accessible, and lower costs.

ProHEALTH Care offers a full range of healthcare services including Urgent, Primary, and Specialty Care, and Ancillary Services including ambulatory surgery, radiology services and more.

The two NEW Hope Fragrances, Hope Sport and Hope Night, take the Hope Fragrance journey from day to night.

Additional guests included: Bonnie Pfeifer Evans, Susan Gutfreund, Barbara Bancroft, Krista Bard, Janna Bullock, Jean Doumanian, Joanna Mastroianni, Marc Rosen, Scott Snyder and Louisa Benton.

Louisa Benton, R.Couri Hay Christina Schott
Hillary Geary, Ross Scott Synder and Audrey Gruss

The Hope Sport Eau de Parfum ($150) is a refreshing and invigorating blend of essences that helps energize during an active day. This youthful scent blends green citrus top notes with two of Hope’s signature white flowers, Tuberose and Lily-of-the-Valley to create a crisp, clean effect.

The Hope Night Eau de Parfum ($150) is a warm, romantic and sensuous fragrance that inspires you to fall in love again and again. Featuring a unique blend of sophisticated oriental notes, including Amber, Vanilla, Patchouli, Plum and Vetiver, on a base of Gardenia and Lily-of-the-Valley, Hope Night evokes warmth, comfort, and romance.

The Hope Fragrance collection created by Audrey Gruss, Founder and Chair of the Hope for Depression Research Foundation (HDRF), Hope Fragrances are 100 percent charitable. All of the net profits of sales from each Hope Fragrance go directly to HDRF to support groundbreaking depression research. The mission of HDRF is to fund the most innovative neuroscience research into the origins, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of depression and its related mood disorders, including bipolar disorder, postpartum depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety disorder and suicide.

Pink champagne by Laurent Perrier was poured as hors d’oeuvres were passed around the room. Guests mingled amongst green and white linen-covered tables, decorated with freshly cut flowers evoking Hope Fragrance’s key notes – gardenia, jasmine, lily-of-the-valley and tuberose. Gold bowls of Madagascar vanilla pods, vibrant limes and ripe plums were positioned in the middle of the grand room, representing the fresh and evocative notes of Hope Sport and Night. Classic three-tiered trays adorned each table, offering a variety of sandwiches, freshly baked scones, fruit preserves, Devonshire cream and petite sweets including macarons and financiers.

“My mother Hope loved white flowers and surrounded herself with them,” said HDRF Founder & Chair/Hope Fragrance Founder, Audrey Gruss. “The original Hope, influenced by my mother, is a combination of white flowers and a verdant note that evokes the fresh green of nature. The two new fragrances are also based on the DNA of the original iconic white flowers, but with warm oriental notes that evoke romance, beautifully manifested in Hope Night; and with green citrus notes that energize a woman’s day, captured in Hope Sport. This creates the Hope Fragrance Collection that takes a woman from day to night in the key moments she experiences.”

ABOUT THE CLASSIC HOPE PRODUCT

The original Hope Eau de Parfum ($150) is a magnificent fusion of the most aromatic white flowers—Gardenia, Jasmine, Lily-of-The-Valley, and Tuberose—the purest and most delicate essences that delight our senses. An exclusive green note adds a lively layer of crisp freshness. The original Hope Collection also contains Hope Hand and Body Crème ($50), a luxurious cream that leaves skin silky, soft and lightly scented, as well as the Hope Scented Candle ($70), an elegant fragrant candle that burns for up to 45 hours. The Hope Fragrance bottle, which features an elongated neck and luxury metal tones—silver for Hope Sport, rose gold for Hope Night, and iconic gold for Hope Original—was created by award-winning perfume packaging designer Marc Rosen.

ABOUT HOPE FOR DEPRESSION RESEARCH FOUNDATION

HDRF is a public, non-profit 501c3 organization founded in 2006 by Audrey Gruss in memory of her mother Hope. Its mission is to fund advanced neuroscience research in the causes, new treatments, and prevention of depression and its related mood disorders. In 2010, HDRF launched its Depression Task Force, an outstanding international collaboration of world-renowned scientists from different disciplines and research institutions across the U.S. and Canada. Working together, these top scientists are executing a joint research plan and sharing data in real time to accelerate discovery. For more information, visit: www.hopefordepression.org

HDRF aims to raise awareness of depression as a medical illness and to educate the public about the facts of depression in order to help remove the stigma that still surrounds depression.

HDRF Recent Highlights:

·       In September 2017, the Depression Task Force published a major review of research progress, including the discovery of two new compounds now going into pilot clinical trials.

·       Each compound represents a long-awaited breakthrough for a field that has seen very little progress in drug discovery for over 30 years. For example: Since the introduction of Prozac (an SSRI) in 1985, there has been little progress in developing new categories of antidepressants. All of the common medications today are just variations of the same formula (SSRIs and SNRIs, involving serotonin and norepinephrine) even though over 50 percent of depressed individuals do not respond to any of the existing medications.

·       Work by Depression Task Force members Drs. Rene Hen and Jonathan Javitch at Columbia University has proven that Tianeptine, an antidepressant compound that has been used clinically in Europe for 30 years but has never been approved for use in the US, acts on a specific part of the brain that has never before been considered for treating depression.

·       The lab of Depression Task Force member Dr. Bruce McEwen of Rockefeller has discovered that a natural chemical in the body (L-Acetyl Carnitine/LAC) can rewire the brain and is a possible new treatment for depression. Clinical research would also show that LAC analysis could offer the first blood test for depression.

·       In five short years, the progress of the Depression Task Force is an unprecedented fast track in the slow-paced world of research.

New York, NY, January 23rd – Gallerist Isabelle Bscher and famed curator Jerome Neutres teamed up with chef Daniel Boulud for an exclusive exhibition of “What’s for Dinner” at Galerie Gmurzynska in New York on Tuesday, January 21st.  A not so exclusive version of the exhibit is up until January 31st.

The exhibition was co-curated by Isabelle Bscher and gallery director, Mathias Rastorfer. Chef Daniel entertained guests as he shared stories of when he first moved to New York in 1982, he could not afford to buy art but would instead feed the artists on the Upper East Side. The walls of Bar Boulud, one of Daniel’s 10 NYC restaurants are famously lined with French vintage wine stains nodding to the chef’s playful personality. While quoting French philosopher, Brillant Savarin, Daniel paraphrased the famous quote, switching food for art, “tell me what you like, and I will tell you who you are.”

Notable guests included artists Will Cotton and Anne Dong, Grace Hightower, CeCe Cord, designer Nicole Miller, Muffie Potter Ashton, skincare mogul Peter Thomas Roth, Lillian Cavendish, Leon Black, Libbie Mugrabi, Lucas Bscher, Diandra Douglas, Janna Bullock, financier Dan Loeb, Michael Musto, Izzy Englander, Krystyna Gmurzynska, Christine Vachon, Dmitri Mavromatis, collectors Prosper and Martine Assouline, author Daniel Kehlmann, and French Ambassador to UN, Nicolas de Riviere.

The evening was followed by an elegant dinner at Bar Pleidas, prepared by Chef Boulud’s, at his UES cocktail lounge at The Surrey Hotel which was closed for the occasion. The esteemed culinary icon created dishes inspired by the exhibition including caviar, foie gras, steak tartare, seafood towers, and charcuterie, reflecting the 20th century.

“What’s for Dinner” is on view at Galerie Gmurzynska located at 43 East 78th Street, New York, NY 10075. Gallery hours are Monday-Saturday, 10am – 6pm daily, tel. (212) 535-5275.

Arman – Donald Baechler – Rudolf Bauer – George Braque – Will Cotton – Sonja Delaunay – Ann Duong – James Ensor – Robert Indiana – Wifredo Lam – Kazimir Malevich – Joan Miro – Louise Nevelson – Richard Pettibone – Jean Pigozzi – Otto Piene – Arnulf Rainer – Mel Ramos – Alexander Rodchenko – Antonio Saura – Victor Servranckx – Kurt Schwitters – David Smith – Daniel Spoerri – Wayne Thiebaud – Georges Vantongerloo – Theo van Doesburg – Bart van der Leck – Eduard Vuillard

At its core, the concept of “What’s for Dinner” is related to and inspired by the seminal 2015 Expo Milan “Art & Food” Pavilion, hosted by the Palazzo Triennale and curated by Germano Celant, to which Galerie Gmurzynska was a substantial lender. Several of the works lent to the Milan Expo are featured in “What’s for Dinner?”

RUBY WAVE – Italian Indie Music Jan 19, 2020 at Bowery Electric

Bio: Formed by Italian singer-songwriter Simona Lamparelli, Ruby Wave is a four piece ensemble backed by Kenny Cha (guitar), Tyler Mashek (drums) and Pietro Gennenzi (bass). Ruby Wave melds the warm and welcoming atmosphere of Lamparelli’s Italian heritage with New York City’s vivacious energy. Ruby Wave performs across the five Boroughs and has been heard at venues including Rockwood Music Hall, Silvana, The Shrine, Muchmore’s, and Bodeguita BK.

Following is a small interview:

  1. Do you have a predominate subject matter?

It’s always hard for me answer to this particular question. I usually try to be open as much as possible, mentally I mean: I love explore always different genres and find new sounds. I think also that everything that I have heard in my life may be considered important in some way. It’s kind of like “What to do” and “What not to do”. And, moreover, depends also of what we are talking about: aesthetic? Stage presence? Composition? Writing? There are many things I consider when I study an artist… Bay the way, If I have to answer so quickly, I could say that my main inspirations are Lucio Dalla for his artistic completeness, Dizzy Gillespie for his sincere and cheerful restlessness and Nirvana for their being what they were.

2.What musical time period(s) do you resonate with most?

I change every time! Varies according to my period of life… For example, I definitely consider grunge music of mid-1980s the soundtrack of my teens memories. Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Mudhoney… I focused my attention to the Nirvana’s sound and the Hole’s vibes: Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love were huge inspirations for me, for different reasons. At the end of the high school, I was exploring American folk music, indie/experimental rock and rock and soul blues music of mid-to late ‘60s, finding in Syd Barrett’s dragged words, in the warrior kindness of Joni Mitchell, in the animal instinct of Janis Joplin, and in the unique penetrating timbre of Nico’s voice, everything that I was looking for that time of my life… From my university years, I started to go into indie rock, alternative rock, folk, and then lead me to different universes and contaminations, from jazz to blues, to the extreme of electronics. Florence and The Machine, The Do, Kimya Dawson, Bjork, Cat Power, Zaz, Benny Goodman, Ella Fitzgerald, Johnny Cash, Natalie Prass, Molly Tuttle, Any Other, Odetta, God Help The Girl, PJ Harvey, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Chet Baker… These are the top names of my favorite playlist on Spotify, but you can check by your own my crazy world:

International music:

Italian music:

Since that moment, I am trying to build solid bases of knowledge, with a book about the history of music in my hands, and my Spotify’s Discover Weekly Playlist in my ears!

3. How would you describe your sound to someone who’s never heard you?

We are close to a perfect mix of Florence and The Machine, Lana Del Ray, Gold Help The Girls and Daughter. But in an Italian way!

4. How did your members come together?

It’s a pretty story. At first, I spent a long time exploring the contemporary music scene of the City, attending concerts of different genres and looking for famous and unknown artists, discovering venues and vibes, and playing acoustic solos occasionally, here and there: simple, intimate and warm shows, for few. All this, under the name of Blue Velvet. After a while, I felt the necessity to change: what I was doing was not enough for explain 100% my personal and artistic growth since the time I arrived in the Big Apple. That’s why I started a new project: since August 2019, I changed my name in Ruby Wave and I started to consider seriously my career, opening official accounts online and starting to promote myself in a professional way. So I decided to posted a “AAA” for musicians interested to be involved to this crazy project on Facebook. After a long time of selection of all the candidates, I decided to play an intimate concert only for who was interested to hear my music alive, booking a rehearsal room and sharing all that I had until that moment. So, we started a band, looking for organize my songs with all that they needed for being what they are now, thanks of hard work and the personal touch of each member of the band. We started to play together in September 2019 and the feeling with each member of the band, from Tyler Mashek (drums) and Kenny Cha (electric guitar), who followed me since the origin of this adventure, to Pietro Gennenzi (bass), who joined the band in October 2019, was immediately positive. So positive, that we define all of us like Ruby Wave now! In few months, we played in amazing venues (SHRINE, ROCKWOOD, PIANOS, SILVANA, MUCHMORE’S, BODEGUITA BK) and we took part of interesting and creative local initiatives (ACOUSTICS UNDER THE STARS, HARTSTOP BK, GAMBA FOREST, CROSSROAD BROOKLYN), but we are still working on our sound, our identity. Rehearsal by rehearsal. Show by show. Day by day.

5. Is music a side-job or it is a primary focus?

Right now, is a side-job, but a primary focus!

6. What is your next goal or thingn you’d like to see?

Since the end of August 2019, I am working with Dashiel Rowland, a young and incredibly multi-talented producer, on my first single “TEMPO FREDDO” (which is going be out really soon!) and we are planning to produce my first EP all together. Can’t wait to make it happen! And SEE it, in my hands!

7. What about your next show?

This show is going to be WILD: next Sunday, January 19th 2020, Doors at7:00PM, we are gonna share the stage of Bowery Electric with other amazing local artists : FAY KUEEN @fay_kuen LIAM TORCHIA @liamtorchiamusic and SKARLIT @skarlit.music . The history of the Hospital as an American institution in France is unique. The Hospital provides high-quality care for nearly all major medical specialties through its 350 physicians and its continuing efforts to offer patients the latest and most advanced medical and diagnostic equipment. Patients from over 110 countries have been treated over the years at the American Hospital of Paris, a testament to its commitment to offer maximum safety of care, which is exemplified by its accreditation by the Haute Autorité de Santé (HAS) and the U.S. Joint Commission.
