  • Erik Satie(1866-1925): Gnossienne No. 4 (1891)
  • Steve Holtje (b. 1961): 3 Gymnopedies (2018):– Gymnopedie No. 1 (for Erik Satie)- Gymnopedie No. 2 (For Bill Evans)– Gymnopedie No. 3 (for Karen Leslie Nicholls)

The host is also asking the artist different questions in between her performances so make sure to see this too while it is still up.

Below are words from Tania Stavreva about the program:

“I am very grateful to Corona Concert Series for their idea to so kindly and generously, with full enthusiasm and encouragement, to promote my work and invite me to be on their concert series in order to help an artist like me during this difficult time. I have decided to include in this 40min solo piano program, pieces that are not focused so much on showy and intense pianistic virtuosity of the standard or modern piano repertoire but on pieces that are more atmospheric, sensual and emotional, mixing well known (Satie, Mompou) composers with new music (Holtje, Coleman) living composers. So, in this program after “Bulgarian Prelude” some of my long term fans will see a different side of me :) This particular program is accessible, inspiring and engaging, each piece to me has light, inspiration and passion for life – something so many of us need today during the challenging times we are going through with covid19. While to me Satie’s GnossienneNo. 4  is a bit more mysterious and Mompou’s “Secreto” a bit wondering and melancholic, those contracts and emotions really blend with the idea of searching for the positive and each composer masterfully bring us through a journey of musical moods and colors that inspire. In my interpretation, this is what I am aiming for: putting together a program that brings positive energy and light. The word “corona” in Bulgarian (Bulgaria is where I am from ) means a crown. It is actually a beautiful word – royal and impressive. I hope by charging myself with love and light, through the beautiful music Satie, Mompou, Coleman and Holtje wrote, to be able to give a gift of light to you to take home and share with others. May you all be safe, protected, secure, healthy and strong! ” – Tania Stavreva

Success in Beauty – Valentinto Beauty Pure’s Story

How 37 year old David DiLorenzo Built A Multimillion-Dollar West Palm Beach Nail Business

David A. DiLorenzo President of Valentino Beauty Pure and a serial entrepreneur with a 20-year background has brought to the nail industry a revolutionary product.

David DiLorenzo comes from a legacy of nail practitioners. His business, Valentino Beauty Pure has a following of over 470,000 on Instagram alone.

It all started with his Father, David Sr., breathed life into Valentino Beauty Pure over 10 years ago. David grew up working in his Father’s salon’s which was located in New Jersey with locations all the way down to South Beach. David saw the need to come up with a product to help with nail odor and dust from the application of acrylic nails. He heard the complaints from the customers about the dust and order causing migraines, mood swings and how that was starting to affect the hair stylists. Brainstorming, David and his Father came up with an invention and patented a product now known across the industry as a “Source Capture System” that is utilized to help remove the harmful odor and nail dust. As David entered the nail industry releasing his invention, he was met with a lot of adversity from an industry that didn’t want to change to a healthier work environment.

Hurricane Sandy saw David and his family losing their homes, warehouse, office, and inventory almost bankrupting the company. They then moved to Florida to re-establish the business and maintain the brand name. It was an incredibly costly move.

As consumer’s attention was starting to wander on-line, David took his vision out of its box. He went online to Facebook to develop the company. In doing so he went directly to the consumer and eliminated the need for a middleman. It took time, but as luck would have it, a little-known phone app called Instagram had just been released and David jumped on this quickly. Instagram opened a whole new sales channel and a way to reach even more new and upcoming Nail Technicians as well as the everyday consumer. David built up relationships with Nail Technicians and worked alongside colleagues to create a Team environment. From there the game completely changed for him. Thanks to his Grandfather being a head brand trainer and his Father being a platform artist, David saw the need for Education in the nail industry. David started teaching business and marketing to artists in the industry of beauty. He built a Team of 17 Educators and brought on 400 Brand Ambassadors. Some Ambassadors he built from scratch and others came with a large following. David took the time to help build up Technicians in every way possible, as a business can only be as successful as its individual team members.

Valentino Beauty Pure line found and worked with one of the best chemists around. They began to develop an acrylic and gel polish line that was thoroughly blind tested by 1,000 Technicians over a one-year period. These products are now released as Valentino Beauty Pure’s Acrylic System and Gel System. David and Valentino Beauty Pure continue to dominate the nail industry with social media touting his praises.

David and his company believe in their success. Valentino Beauty Pure and Team Valentino, their nail technicians and their clients share nail work around the world. This has given the brand a tremendous amount of exposure and may be why Valentino Beauty Pure is a household name in over 20 Countries Worldwide!

Ultimate Wine Pairings for Your Go-To Quarantine Snacks

Snack time and cocktail hour have become integral to daily routines for many of us while we are in quarantine. Wine industry expert Sandra Guibord, Founder of Sandra’s Wine Life, uses her over 20 years in the industry to suggest the ultimate wine pairings for your favorite snacks to make staying inside a bit less painful. Sandra is hosting another edition of “Wine Wednesday,” her online wine tasting series on IGTV  that will be posted at 6:00 p.m. EST.

  • For creamy snacks, think hummus and veggies or tortilla chips and guacamole: “Mare Nostrum” by L’Olivette, Provence, France is a rosé with a wisp of strawberry to complement the fresh veggies and a crisp, dry finish to balance creamy dips.
  • For something salty and cheesy, like Cheez-Its: L’Umami, Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley, Oregon’s bright cherry flavor, and subtle spicy finish brings forward all the delicious flavors in each bite.
  • For crispy, buttery snacks like buttered popcorn and potato chips: Gérard Bertrand, Crément de Limoux, Limoux, France is a sparkling wine whose effervescence refreshes your palate from the salt and oil.
  • For your chocolate craving, like chocolate chip cookies, pretzels and Nutella or, well, chocolate: Iron Side, Cabernet Sauvignon, Healdsburg, California. The subtle notes of blackberry in each sip stand out from rich vanilla undertones of the chocolate and accentuates the cacao.

Below is an interview with Sandra:

1. Tell us a bit about the virtual happy hour, and how viewers can follow along

Wine Wednesday is inspired by the researched fact, that more people drink wine at home on Wednesday than any other night of the week! (In normal time when we are all out and about..) Right now with everyone at home, wine enthusiasts are looking for inspiration and new ideas in wine. I host Wine Wednesday on my Instagram each week at 6pm. @sandraswinelife

2. Any exciting episodes coming up?

I’m excited that I will be conducting live tastings to social media “foodies”.  I will be sharing basic introductions to wine and food pairings, and also to talk about new wines to enjoy as the weather and season changes.

3. How does wine affect moods?

It always makes me happy! I particularly love that when you buy or receive a nice bottle of wine, the first thing you think of is, “Who am I going to share this with?” Sharing wine with family and friends, is a connective tangible emotion that brings you together in the moment of the first smell, sip and toast. Even enjoying a glass together on Zoom lightens everyones spirits.

4. How do different wines affect thoughts?

The olfactory nerve is a powerful memory trigger. Often a glass of wine will transport me to a particular meal, location or event. A big California Syrah and the aroma of rosemary and garlic, always remind me of beef tri-tip  meals with homemade tortillas out under the stars in Ojai  California with my friends. Or a bright Vermentino brings me to Sardinia Italy to my favorite restaurant La Gritti, with fresh seafood pasta enjoyed in the sun and breeze.

5. Have you been to Italy? What’s your favorite part?

I started going to Italy as a young model in 1986. I have been fortunate enough to travel all over the country for work and play ever since. I have spent the last 5 summer vacations on the Island of Sardinia where the local Vermentino wine has become my summer wine craving and Porto Cervo my favorite local.

6. Where is your favorite place to drink wine?

It’s not so much where, as it is with who. On a fabulous rooftop in NYC, sitting around my fire pit in Connecticut or in a favorite restaurant. As long as I am sharing in the experience with old or new friends, any place is great. Otherwise these days, a nice glass in the bath tub…

7. What is your favorite wine?

My standard answer is… What ever is open.

Pandemic 2020 – Artist Thoughts

We will start with this poem by Rudyard Kipling

‘Brother Square-Toes’—Rewards and Fairies

If you can keep your head when all about you

Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,

If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,

    But make allowance for their doubting too;

If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,

Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies,

Or being hated, don’t give way to hating,

And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream—and not make dreams your master;

    If you can think—and not make thoughts your aim;

If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster

    And treat those two impostors just the same;

If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken

Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,

Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,

And stoop and build ’em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings

And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,

And lose, and start again at your beginnings

    And never breathe a word about your loss;

If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew

To serve your turn long after they are gone,

And so hold on when there is nothing in you

Except the Will which says to them: ‘Hold on!’

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,

Or walk with Kings—nor lose the common touch,

If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,

    If all men count with you, but none too much;

If you can fill the unforgiving minute

With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,

Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,

And—which is more—you’ll be a Man, my son!

This time of reflection shall pass. Instead of being reactive, waiting for the quarantine to be over, perhaps take this time to look inward, slow down. How often do we get a luxury of time being this slow with the advent of cars and air planes and such?

And now, for the contemportary content: The coronavirus has affected all of us, but this has become new ground for artists who express the times and emotions through their creative mediums. For a commercial artist work comes to a lull or does it? We talked to four different artists of different mediums to find out how this virus is affecting their art and their creativity.

Artist 1: Claudio Kaczka:

The firm of choice for Dior, Dolce & Gabana, Prada, Caroline Herrera, Givenchy, Apple, MAC Tom Ford and Jo Malone, is BIRKA. Claudio Kaczka CEO of BIRKA didn’t know he had a vision and that luxury brands would look to his firm to create lavish experiences. His buildings draw in shoppers and potential customers alike. Founded in 2009, BIRKA has completed over 700 projects for top name, influential luxury brands. BIRKA specializes in creating spaces that are eye-catching, They reflect the newest trends in products as well. Kacka is also a painter in his own rights.

We are working more than ever now. We are thinking about not only working with our clients, but working for solutions for the clients and solutions for the future. We have divided the company into several task forcesWe are working with shipping containers, hospitals and for people who stay home a lot. The projects are numerous.

Suzanna: What would you like to say to this world artistically?

Claudio KaczkaI try to create sensations within people. I want them to feel something. It amazing the connection I have right now. I receive a lot of comments from people who now have the time to see the art.

Suzanna: How will your work reflect this moment in time?

Claudio KaczkaI do figurative art my paintings now are inside houses. It depends what happens in the day. I let that reflect back into my art. I try to create art that makes you step outside of yourself. An art window.

Artist 2: Piotr Bak

Suzanna: What would you like to say to this world artistically?

Piotr Bak: The degree of my creativity during the virus is no different from the one before the pandemic. The time I spend in the studio has also not changed, which is why the isolation we are forced to do is not so noticeable by me (so far).

The world around me, relationships between people have been and are a source of inexhaustible inspiration for me. The current situation also stimulates my imagination, allows me to look differently at the topics around which my thoughts have previously circulated, but have not found the right ground for realization. The topic I dealt with in the past was related to domestic violence. For lack of ideas for continuation, I left him for other topics. The current situation caused that the problem returned to me with great force and became an incentive to continue the work started in the past.

Another image I am currently working on speaks of loneliness. The topic has been raised many times by me, but current events have sketched other compositional frames in my head, gave the theme a different tone, a different dimension.

Emotions related to the current situation are also becoming the main element of other works that I am currently working on, for example: Captive of Struggle, Tear.

The works are currently at various levels of advancement, and the path to a satisfactory result for me will be repeatedly rearranged.

However, in order not to fall into a state of total depression, more optimistic works appear. These are portraits, portraits of my loved ones such as the portrait of my niece Martyna.

The portraits that I draw directly from the model are for me the biggest challenge and at the same time a pleasure. The current situation, however, forces me to work with photos. Drawing a portrait is for me a way to calm my thoughts, but also to check my workshop skills.

Suzanna to Piotr: What would you like to say to this world artistically?

Suzanna: What would you like to say to this world artistically?

Piotr Bak in his Studio

Piotr Bak: In my paintings the world that surrounds me is most reflected. Reality is an inspiration for me, which ignites my imagination, constantly brings themes to my paintings. The topic has become very important to me for some time, it is a binder that helps me combine my experience with new experiences resulting from experimentation in order to achieve the greatest symbiosis between form and content.

I don’t look for answers in my paintings, but I just want to highlight some problems that surround me and often touch me personally. I address existential problems with the help of my personal language of expression. What I want to convey to people who have come across my paintings is a different way of interpreting the surrounding reality.

By using a personal combination of carefully selected words, I help the recipient move to a world that can give some respite from the visual cacophony surrounding us.

Problems of existential nature were not easy and pleasant, but the fact that I avoid the provocative nature of expression can facilitate contact with my work.

Artist 3: Agniezka Pilat

Agnieszka Pilat aspires for her work to be global; yet ‘global’ seems to be tied to a specific location, which is still New York. Every time Pilat hears someone refer to her as a ‘local artist’ her ego suffers a blow. If moving to New York City is what it takes to cast-off this label, Pilat just may be ready to take that risk.

“The thought of leaving San Francisco, and Silicon Valley behind, my friends, collectors and the many entrepreneurs fills my heart with sadness. The center of my universe is in the San Francisco Bay Area, which is THE CENTER of the universe as it relates to innovation and technology, which has, and continues to change the world. The future is made here. My machines are born here, and my work pays tribute to that spirit.”

Suzanna to Agnieszka: How are you staying creative during this virus?

Agnieszka Pilat: Should I be embarrassed to say that I thrive in this quiet time..? As an artist, I am used to solitude and to working by myself in the studio. This new reality which everyone finds so tough to deal with… it is my playground, it’s my normal. I wonder if other people are getting this feeling, but for me personally, it’s as if time slowed down… I don’t remember having this luxury of working without feeling rushed. I appreciate that very much.

Because the pandemic made it unclear how the art market and the world will recover, how it will be different when it’s all over, what will be the new normal… I allowed myself to be more playful, more experimental in my studio practice. I gave myself a green light to really experiment, I feel more free to give myself permission to play with ideas, to learn new materials and new approaches.

The new work that is being created during this lockdown is very different – I am exploring a new language to show the transition from mechanical machine to organic one. Of course this is so very much *of the moment* as the world as we know it is crumbling and we are looking to science and technology for solutions.

I still go to my studio 5 days a week – I bicycle down the hill from Nob Hill to the Mission in San Francisco. I try to be in the studio by 12PM and I work till 6PM. I take one day a week to answer emails and do other ‘paperwork’, like applying for grants, writing my newsletter, social media stuff.

I am quite determined to never answer emails in the mornings – I like to be in control of my morning time and not reactive, letting others drive my schedule. I like to read in the mornings – always Art history or art biographies.

Artist 4: Miguel Paredes

Miguel Paredes is an artist and urban realist who combines the exhilarating sense of New York graffiti art with the skill and perceptiveness of a truly exceptional artist. Paredes drew inspiration from notorious pop artists like Andy Warhol and Keith Haring and plunged headlong into the world of graffiti and pop art taking the name “Mist” as his moniker.

Katie Kimmel + Lorien Stern: VERY RARE April 4th – April 25th, 2020

NEW YORK CITY – Hashimoto Contemporary is pleased to present Very Rare, a two-artist exhibition by Mojave Desert, California-based artists Katie Kimmel and Lorien Stern. Very Rare will be both artists second exhibition at Hashimoto Contemporary, following Stern’s 2018 and Kimmel’s 2019 solo exhibitions. For Very Rare, the artists created a collection of whimsical ceramic artifacts, oddities and trophies for unique situations, the imagined content found in an older, wealthy person’s curiosity room.

Drawing on their mutually playful sense of humor, Kimmel and Stern contemplated what is considered ‘very rare’, and how we come to define and categorize something as such. For Lorien Stern, this theme was utilized to place a spotlight on exotic, extinct and near extinct animals, as well as rare versions of the artists well known ceramic shark heads, finished in gold luster. One notable work is a 2+ foot tall albino Komodo dragon, standing upright, tail wrapped around itself and tongue sticking out, while cheekily displaying its long, light blue perfectly manicured finger and toe nails.

Alternatively, Katie Kimmel created a series of ceramic awards and trophies, “haunted fruit”, as well as collectible items such as kitschy memorabilia reminiscent of card store trinkets and stamps. Patron Saint of Friday’s, a large ceramic bust, pays tribute to the working class chain-restaurant waitress, suspenders full of “flair”, proudly carrying a grinning cheeseburger and fries to her next table.

In conjunction with the exhibition, Hashimoto Contemporary will have a selection of unique works and merchandise from each artist made especially for Very Rare. In addition, a collaborative limited edition print will be released titled You Are Good. $10 from each print sale will be donated to No Kid Hungry, who are working with schools and food banks to ensure children don’t miss meals due to Coronavirus school closures. Merchandise and the limited edition print will be available for purchase on our website on Thursday, April 9th at hashimotocontemporary.com

Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, there will be no opening reception for the exhibition, and the gallery will be closed to the public. The exhibition will be on view through the gallery website. An Instagram live walk through of the show is scheduled for Saturday, April 4th. Both Katie Kimmel and Lorien Stern will participate in the live stream.

The evening was an honoree program and a fundraiser to support World Values Networks goals of inspiring people to apply Jewish values into their everyday lives, helping America heal some of its greatest ills, and inspiring Jewish youth with the power of ideas. In addition to the honorees, the gala was attended by key figures including: David Zaslav (CEO, Discovery Inc.), Bret Stephens (Pulitzer Prize Winning New York Times Opinion Columnist)and Rita Cosby (Special Correspondent, Inside Edition).

Rabbi Shmuley discussed the importance of the World Values Network’s two initiatives. The first, Friday is For Families, is to encourage Friday family dinners on this holy night, important for the Jewish community, Muslims and Catholics. The second, a website portal World Values Network plans to give key business, political, religious, and philanthropic leaders a place to share their values – regardless of political or religious affiliation.

Ambassador Friedman was presented with the Miriam and Sheldon Adelson Award by Rabbi Shmuley Boteach who deemed him, “The greatest ambassador ever sent to Israel.”

After accepting the Champion of Education Award, Robert F. Smith noted how over time the Jewish and African American communities have intertwined, particularly during the Civil Rights movement and at Carnegie Hall, of which he serves as the Chairman of the Board. “The Jewish people were a part of the Civil Rights movement, and it’s a shame that’s not recognized,” he said, noting the lawyers and Jewish advocates who walked alongside Martin Luther King Jr. during his marches, including the March at Selma, which recently commemorated its 55th anniversary.

In addition to being honored, World Values Network also named a fellowship in Ron Dermer’s name. The fellowship was commissioned by Entrepreneur Kevin Bermeister to honor those who defend the rights of Israel. Georgette Mosbacher, US Ambassador to Poland, was honored for her work in maintaining a close relationship with Israel, and her work in protecting the values of the Jewish people was recognized.

As guests were served dinner, they were entertained with a performance from German cabaret singer, Ute Lemper, followed by two students from Juilliard. Following dinner, Judge Jeanine Pirro was presented with the Falic Family Defender of Israel Award, for her voracious defense of Israel in the media.

To conclude the evening, Evander Holyfield won The Champion of Community Service Award, recognizing his work in the community with the Boys and Girls Club. During his speech, he spoke of how the organization and the kindness of others made him into the person who he is today from a woman who gave him a quarter to help pay for his enrollment in the club, to going to the gym after football practice and being enticed by the sight of someone hitting the speedbag. This piqued his interest, and through the coaching and mentorship the program provides, along with the hard yet loving support of his mom – it helped him become a four-time world heavy weight champion of the world. He concluded by saying, “Like [Rabbi Shmuley Boteach] said, success starts at home.”

About World Values Network

The Values Network is based on the teachings of Rabbi Shmuley Boteach and his passion for bringing universal Jewish values to mainstream American culture and beyond. Rabbi Shmuley’s teachings provide a means for healing and strengthening families, diverting society’s focus from material greed and inspiring children to practice caring and compassionate relationships. Our renowned lectures, debates, radio and TV broadcasts, religious services, websites, social media, and published essays cater to a broad international audience. Our goal is to inspire people to apply Jewish values into their everyday lives, ultimately conveying Jewish values in print and on the airwaves to both help America heal some of its greatest ills and to inspire Jewish youth with the power of ideas.
