LUSH curated by Jennifer Rizzo January 16th – February 6th, 2021

NEW YORK CITY – Hashimoto Contemporary is pleased to
present Lush, a group show curated by Jennifer Rizzo. The
exhibition brings together a group of thirty-three artists from
around the globe who have drawn inspiration from one of the
most prominent muses of all times – the flowering species.
Throughout history, florals can ben found represented in art from all cultures and regions, as well as a source of inspiration within various artistic movements. With over 400,000 known plant species, artists
have long looked to this endless array of specimens, utilizing them to convey a universal symbol of beauty as well as a spectrum of human emotion. By doing so, artists are able to imbue the delicately
stemmed floral with great emotional heft.

Jeremiah Jenkins, Blooms, 2020

Lush spotlights contemporary artists once again looking to the timeless floral muse, from Karen Lederer’s soothing moments captured within quietly painted scenes, to Jeremiah Jenkins’ lead flowers emerging from bullet casings to Anna Valdez’s maximalist still lifes, the exhibition surveys a modern approach to a classic subject.

First Female, Erica Lee, Named CEO of Biographical Publisher, Marquis Who’s Who

0

Lee is committed to preserving the long-term integrity of Marquis Who‘s Who

Marquis Who’s Who, the world’s premier publisher of biographical material and the brand behind Who’s Who in America®, has named Erica Lee its first female chief executive officer in 120 years. Lee has served as the chief operating officer and president of Marquis since 2016 and will be assuming the place of Fred Marks, who served the company dutifully for 35 years prior to his retirement.

Established in 1898, company founder, Albert Nelson Marquis, sought to document the lives and accomplishments of the most prominent, renowned and infamous people around the world in print format. In 2002, Marquis expanded its suite from a print-only series to include a proprietary online database, which is utilized by many leading academic institutions and corporate and public libraries around the globe for research purposes. Recognizing the need for biographical listees to build an online presence, Marquis launched a personal branding division spearheaded by Lee. Through personal branding, listees are able to promote their products and services and commemorate their legacy to gain international recognition by taking advantage of video biographies, personal websites, radio interviews, and features in the Wall Street Journal and United Way and American Airlines magazines. Additionally, the most distinguished Marquis listees are presented with the opportunity to be interviewed by the Broadcasting and Cable Hall of Famer, Star Jones.

“We profile the most fascinating people in the world, but they rarely focus on promoting themselves and that’s where Marquis steps in. We give our biographical listees the platforms to showcase their incredible body of work and make their information discoverable on major search engines,” says Lee. Biographical information is updated continuously for Marquis listees and upon approval, it remains online permanently to be referenced by future generations of professionals.

In addition to personal branding, Lee has focused her efforts on brand reputation, setting Marquis apart from numerous imitators and fraudsters. Lee has been working hand-in-hand with federal investigators to identify and stop these bad actors from defrauding customers by misrepresenting affiliation with Marquis. “Our motto is The Original. Often Imitated, Never Duplicated and this remains true,” says Lee, “We will not rest until these unscrupulous companies are closed for good.”

Lee looks forward to rolling out a Marquis Emerging Leaders division later in 2021, which will highlight up-and-coming leaders over a multitude of industries and career fields. Ultimately, Lee’s aim is to pair established Marquis mentors with emerging leaders to identify insight, direction and wisdom as they navigate their own careers. “Mentorship is something I benefitted from while an undergraduate at Yale and something I have found incredibly rewarding over the course of my professional career,” says Lee, “It is up to us to pass on the baton and ensure the next generation is ready to lead.”

About Marquis Who’s Who®

Since 1899, when A. N. Marquis printed the first edition of Who’s Who in America®, Marquis Who’s Who® has chronicled the lives of the most accomplished individuals and innovators from every significant field of endeavor, including politics, business, medicine, law, education, art, religion and entertainment. Today, Who’s Who in America® remains an essential biographical source for thousands of researchers, journalists, librarians and executive search firms around the world. Michael Capponi and His Worldwide Plan to Improve Nations with Global Empowerment Mission

0

Michael Capponi has always been one to help. He is one of those humans who just reaches deep inside their heart to find the strength to empower others.

The Founding CEO of Global Empowerment Mission knows what a small difference compassion for fellow human beings can make during this time. His personal drive to help others since a young age has developed into a powerful vision that led to the creation of a platinum rated international foundation. The immediate response he helps organize during various phases of global disasters is vitally beneficial.

“I genuinely believe that this is all part of our destiny,” reflects Capponi on the relief efforts he helps direct in various countries. The level of empathy and understanding is a momentous ability that he has taken on from an early age.

Speaking about his fundamental roots he continues, “I’ve always been this way. I’ve always just wanted to help. I remember when I was a teenager I met a homeless person that I became friends with one day. Literally three weeks later I moved this person in to live with me. It’s either in you or it’s not. I think certain souls are just drawn to try to assist.”

Michael_Caponni_PHOTO GEM

A prosperous career followed the tenacious acts of his youth. He went on to a level of fame that few have achieved. For over three decades he has been considered one of the most successful nightlife pioneers in Miami. Later in his career, he built some of Miami’s most prestigious homes. Utilizing his talents and natural gift of bringing people together, he was a perfect fit for creating a worldwide network of philanthropists.

“I was always good at promoting things. As time passed, instead of promoting to go to a lavish event it became about promoting global causes and creating awareness for change,” says the founder. “If a hurricane destroys an area or there is too much plastic on the beach that needs cleaning I am going to talk about it. GEM will be there to help. If countries need education systems we build the schools with our donor partners and pay their tuition. It’s where my life took me.”

By harnessing the power of social media, celebrity influencers, strategic public-private partnerships and a strong, knowledgeable base of experienced volunteers, Capponi has created a replicable formula to have an efficient and effective response to global disasters. The compassionate businessman has transformed tens of thousands of lives and there will be thousands of more who will benefit because of the drive he has to promote harmony on the planet.

Since the organization’s inception GEM has been on the long and winding road to make the world simply a better place. With grassroots community engagement he along with dedicated board members have been involved in supporting some of the most significant global tragedies. For two decades, the team has assisted in over 284 missions around the world since the 1999 Kosovo Crisis, the earthquake in Haiti in 2010 to the current 2020 pandemic.

Following the completion of immediate response, and recognizing the continued need for support, GEM began to bridge the gap between first response and sustainable development. In 2017, GEM began operating Bethenny Frankel’s #BStrong initiative, which fills this need by supplying unrestricted cash card distributions allowing beneficiaries to meet their individual needs.

This partnership disrupts disaster response while activating and influencing the global community by going above and beyond real time emergency assistance to individuals and their families. With the objective of minimizing the duration of time communities are stuck in the gap, and aiming to complete the cycle of disaster response, GEM instituted its sustainable development programming by building and rebuilding homes, schools and communities while establishing livelihood initiatives. GEM has been able to reduce what was an initial three-year sustainability cycle in Haiti to a refined approach that resulted in a year of sustainability in the Bahamas.

The organization is also currently focusing on home and school rebuilds. Capponi’s background in event promotion led to a sophisticated network of clients that helped mold a successful real estate development career. Over the past decade he had spearheaded the Capponi Construction Group development office. This business model helped change the Florida landscape with award-winning designs and captivating innovation.

With a vast realm of knowledge, Capponi used his acquired abilities to advance GEM’s portfolio. Now partner benefactors such as Discovery Land Company Foundation, 84 Lumber, TD Charitable, Siadat Family Foundation, are providing beneficial home repairs after disasters across the world. This phase of disaster response coordinated with government and public-private partners helps restore permanent and durable housing while implementing livelihood programs.

To date, GEM has supported missions in 28 countries, all 50 US states, and territories including the Caribbean. The organizations complete full response results in having a long-lasting institutional impact.

“It seems to always flow from divine order,” states Capponi. “The Universe always seems to bring the needed players together to assist.”

With this positive impetus the world will continue to improve. It will continue to find peace and prosperity with foundations like GEM leading the way. What could be more gratifying for donors than a movement that changes the world for the better.

Says Datuna “Just a bit over a year ago, during my Hungry Artist performance, I said that art is all about the fun it brings to our lives. As 2020 draws to a close I want to focus on the other aspect of art: it’s all about hope, and hope is the key tool for survival in these challenging times.

We fear syringes, but we also fear death, and now syringe is the ultimate expression of hope. Some see stockpiles of vaccines sitting out there in the Big Pharma warehouses. I see boxes of saved lives.”

This is not the first time Datuna used his art to bring attention to the work of pharmaceutical industry. In 2016 Datuna presented Gilead Sciences Inc. with a Life Award in recognition of the pharma giant’s work in fighting Hepatitis C in Georgia.

The artist plans to exhibit The Box of Lives collection in early 2021 in New York City.

Sandra Guibord, CEO and Founder of  Sandra’s Wine Life,  today announced the formal launch of her already successful partnership with Thomas Preti Events to Savor. The wine educator and top New York caterer have pivoted their businesses, traditionally in-person wine education courses and large-scale in-person events respectively, to provide services virtually, shipping their wine and culinary creations to virtual event participants located throughout the United States for meetings, holiday parties, as well as Sandra Wine Life’s Wine Seminars. Both companies have experienced tremendous success with this new model, working independently and together. Since the onset of the pandemic when physical events were put on hold, Sandra’s Wine Life has held four virtual events per week at minimum and experienced a growth rate of 100%.

Sandra Guibord states: “Our new normal has empowered me to shift my business, previously in-person wine education seminars for top financial institutions, legal firms and non-profits, into a virtual format. Through this experience, Sandra’s Wine Life has gained new clients and enthusiasts. I have not lost one client during the pandemic – in fact, I have grown my business 100%. This additional partnership with New York’s top caterer, Thomas Preti, is a testament to the opportunities that can be created through collaboration during this unique moment in history.”

Thomas Preti, Founder of Thomas Preti Events to Savor adds: “Sandra and I have worked together, supporting the same clientele, yet separately, for nearly 10 years with tremendous success. I’m thrilled to now add our company’s catering expertise – traditionally shared in New York City’s most prestigious event venues – virtually through our new ‘Preti, Set, Go!’ offering. Although events are now primarily virtual, we continue to be able to provide cuisine that is just as beautifully presented and flavorful as for live, in-person events. The additional success that we’ve experienced teaming up with Sandra’s Wine Life has been incredible, with dozens of new events added, as well as the ability to now provide a full-service food and wine offering for virtual events.”

Sandra’s Wine Life Virtual Wine Seminars offer an array of custom and pre-packaged wine courses for beginners to wine connoisseurs. Seminar topics include a primer about wine and pairing called ‘All About Wine Tasting & Discussion,’ frequently hosted alongside a top wine industry expert; ‘Wine & Cinema Tasting,’ including the preview of the film, ‘Wine Calling’ which captures the story of France’s natural winemaking movement; and ‘Wine & Opera’ which presents relevant wines and conversation alongside a ‘live’ virtual performance by International opera singers, Charles Castronovo and Ekaterina Siurina, from Berlin, Germany. Thomas Preti Events’ ‘Preti, Set, Go!’ culinary offering is available to pair with Sandra Guibord’s wine selections for any of these virtual wine seminars.

A SIGN OF THE TIMES curated by Anne-Laure Lemaitre December 9th – December 13th, 2020

0

NEW YORK CITY – Hashimoto Contemporary is pleased to
present A Sign of Times, a pop-up exhibition curated by AnneLaure Lemaitre in which 17 text-based artists reflect on our
times.

Chris Martin, Dead & Gone alternate, 2020

The past few years have been marked in part by a direct
challenge to the value of words and the meaning they convey.
We’ve seen language exponentially used with little regard for its purpose or substance. Yet, words do not only facilitate communication and clarity to others, but also the ability to detangle inner thoughts
and make sense of personal experiences.

Greg Lamarche, No Room For Racism, 2020

In this moment, solitude and the scarcity of human touch have made words as a means of understanding one another—and the world we live in—more important than ever. However, we’ve also been challenged in our trust for their ability to be an authentic vector of clarity and truth.

Gary Stranger, Inside Out Outside In, 2020

A Sign of The Times presents artists whose practice includes lettering at its core with the simple premise of freely exploring their relationship to this peculiar moment. Ranging from traditional media to digital animation and weaving, the resulting artworks span from intimate self reflections on isolation to outwards social commentaries. Their unique approaches offer earnest and personal contemporaneous takes on a confusing chapter still in making.

Elizabeth Johson, Message for a Grieving Heart, 2020
Georgia Hill, Feels Like Forever, 2020

The gallery will be open by appointment only. In order to ensure the health and safety of visitors and staff, please note that masks are legally required for entry. To schedule an appointment, please click HERE.
