Rubywave’s First Release -Tempofreddo – Italian Music born in NYC

17

Simona Lamparelli (Rubywave) is a singer-songwriter from Pescara, (Abruzzo – Italy). At the age of 26 she decided what to do with her dreams. After two degrees and years of experience in the world of art performance, Rubywave decides to try her best in the land that she always thought was the right place in which to cultivate her art: USA. It was on the other side of the ocean, in New York City, where she decided to start sharing her songs, written in her native language!

In fact, once landed in the Big Apple, this artist immediately began to frequent the environments of the contemporary indie music scene of the City, attending concerts, playing her songs with her Taylor guitar purchased in NYC’s marketplace.

After a few months spent sharing covers revisited in Italian and in English on the best stage ever, the subway, Rubywave started to play in small acoustic venues. Our Italian artist formed a band with talented, local musicians: Kenny Cha (Korea – electric guitar), Pietro Gennezi (Italy – Bass) and Tyler Mashek (America – Drums).

They accompanied Rubywave everywhere, around the five boroughs of The City and performed at amazing venues like
the Rockwood Music Hall and the Bowery Electric.

But today we want to talk about TEMPOFREDDO, her first single, and also a great result of collaboration between Italy and the USA.

“This is a song that comes from the desire to simply say things as they are. The distance creates a void, which I wanted to define ‘cold’.”

Tempofreddo was born on the first trip back to Italy during Easter, in April 2019.

“I arrived in New York in December 2018 and… I had the impression that the winter of that year was extremely
intense. Then, after a second winter in the City, I realized why it was so hard for me: the silent, cold distance which
separated me from the ‘warmness’ of my dears”.

Rubywave and Dashiel Zane

“Once I defined the lyrics and the melody, I felt that it needed an atmosphere, a context that could transmit the infinite melodic nuances. I don’t think the power is in the words, more in the structure and in the music.”-Rubywave

In fact, Rubywave found what she needed to keep create the universe she felt working with multi-talented Dashiel Zane Rowland, a dynamic artist and great producer from Los Angeles.

“My goal with the production of Rubywave’s “Tempofreddo” was to expand upon and develop the mood and sensibilities conveyed in the voice demo played for me when we first began cutting the record. After tracking guitar and vocals, my main focuses were creating a rhythm structure that could best accent her vocal phrasing, carving out frequency space for those vocals to cut through and shine, and creating counter melodies to accentuate her catchy hook. Lastly, I implemented subtle uses of contemporary, digital stylistic choices into the mix of her piece, including splashes of Autotune, heavy distortion, and automated delays and reverbs. It’s been a pleasure and a wonderful learning experience to work with Rubywave and I’m looking forward to further collaborations with her as she continues to evolve her original and unique sound.”– Producer/Mix Engineer Dashiel (Zane) Rowland

“It was very complicated to manage: it was the first time I worked on a piece and the distance made it much slower.” -Rubywave

Tempofreddo is the result of long Skype calls and screenshots sharing.

“We worked tirelessly, finishing the project at 3AM. We were constantly asking each other what we needed in order to make everything perfect!” – Rubywave

The recorded electric guitar is by Kenny Cha, amazing guitarist and composer, who was also the electric guitar in the Rubywave’s band in NYC.

NYUNDRESSED – OUR INTERVIEW to RUBYWAVE

Rubywave is full of thoughts and life so I asked her to share a bit of that content recorded below:

1. How has the release of Tempofreddo gone so far?
Honestly, it went much better than I expected. Or rather, I hoped so much, but I didn’t expect anything at all! The song was played almost 5000 times in more and less than one month and it had moderate responses from magazines, blogs, Spotify playlists…This is also thanks to FATANTO, my press office, which I thank officially here, beside the great job
of the super multi-talented Dashiel Rowland, who did the production and the unique touch of Kenny Cha’s guitar. It was a great team-work. I sincerely appreciate each single comment, feedback and message which I received.

2.Will you have an album?
I’m thinking about giving the right space to every project. At the moment, I have enough material to work on several ideas so, let’s see what this 2021 will reserve for us! This situation could be an opportunity or an excuse. It depends on your point of view and how you analyze what’s going on around you.

3. Do you have shows coming up anywhere?
Unfortunately, COVID is everywhere… Or at least, wherever I was going to do something! I always thought that music is all about “experience”, so that’s way I don’t particularly like being involved in online shows. I did only one, in August 2020, just because it was the only chance for have the pleasure to be involved on an event with an amazing lineup! I played with great musicians like Phil Robinson, Rory D’Lasnow, Victor V. Gurbo and Jason Vitelli before to leave NYC. Now, for me, this is the right time for reflect and focus my energies on what I feel, not of what I can or cannot do. That’s why I am working on my technical skills and my emotions: to be prepared for the next live show!

4.How many instruments do you use?
My voice and my beloved Taylor are all I need. But I admit that I am having a double-crush at the moment: drum and bass are being very present in my fantasies…

5. How long have you been singing?
I started to make noises since I have memory, but I am not sure it could be defined “singing”! About that, It’s never too late to learn, especially when it comes to music: I am glad to say that, after the Academy of Fine Art and a Master Degree, now I am attending a course of Jazz Singing at the Conservatory of my hometown! It’s harder than when I was
18, but you know: putting yourself in the uncomfortable condition, leads to improvement.

Rubywave is in Italy now; it’s true, but no worries: she is still working for all of you and when she will be ready to
share her new release, we will be there!

Until her next release, you can keep listening here:

METROPOLITAN NEW YORK SYNOD (MNYS) OF THE EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH IN AMERICA (ELCA) ADVOCATES FOR PASSAGE OF THE SEPARATION OF CHILDREN ACCOUNTABILITY REPORTING (SCAR) ACT

Christopher Vergara, Chair of MNYS Advocacy Taskforce, Receives Social Justice Award from New York State Council of Churches for Humanitarian Efforts

During COVID-19, the Metropolitan New York Synod (MNYS) of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America is prioritizing helping one of the most vulnerable communities in the country – migrant minors – undocumented immigrants under the age of 21. MNYS, through its Advocacy Taskforce and  AMMPARO/Sanctuary Ministry, is actively advocating for the immediate passage of the Separation of Children Accountability Reporting (SCAR) Act in New York, a bill introduced by New York State Senator Brian A. Benjamin and Assembly Member Harvey Epstein. The SCAR Act seeks transparency through accountability, requiring that child welfare agencies and other centers with custody of minors be required to report the location, status and current separation/reunification circumstances of these children to the NYS Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS), as well as to the federal government, in addition to other critical information. This bill calls for mandatory provision of this information so that advocates and policy makers can help meet their needs, enabling many to gain hope and peace of mind during these troubling times.

The Chair of the Advocacy Taskforce at the Metropolitan New York Synod, Christopher Vergara, explains that now there is no supervision or required documentation at detention facilities. With the passage of the SCAR Act, there would be the start of reliable record keeping, which would enable organizations like the Metropolitan New York Synod to help these individuals and their families more readily.

Vergara states: “The passage of the SCAR Act is just the beginning of what is needed, yet a critically important start that could lead to the dismantling of a corrupt detention system. We are hopeful that this mandatory tracking of these children and their parents will lead to handling these children and their families with dignity and equality in the future.”

Vergara — as the leader of the advocacy efforts of the Lutheran Church in the metro NY area — was the recipient of the Social Justice Award from the New York State Council of Churches (NYCC) for his humanitarian efforts on behalf of United States immigrants. The NYCC highlighted Vergara’s ‘living God’s call to do justice and love our neighbors’ through his extraordinary efforts helping the disadvantaged.

Long before COVID-19, The Metropolitan New York Synod has supported immigrant youth and helped to provide their communities with basic assistance as well as offering pastoral access. For example, the MNYS connected community members to offer migrant minors a safe place to stay during COVID-19, providing clusters of 10-12 people with housing. In addition, working with the Central American Consulate, the MNYS established a Sanctuary Youth Group for immigrant children, taking them on field trips, nature excursions, as well as to artistic and cultural events. They also provided help for older children, particularly those in juvenile detention centers, where many are harassed and abused, including members of the LGBTQIA+, indigenous, and other minority communities. The synod looks forward to resuming these activities and continues to provide winter coats, food, and diapers to immigrant communities in need in the New York metropolitan area.

Vergara was open to conversation about the SCAR act and the MNYS to help us all better understand the thoughts, details and logic fueling their activity.

1.What inspires you to work with Migrant Minors? Why do this work through St. Peter’s Church specifically?

I think the question itself is very telling of our time, and how we have broken our contract with children in this country. Nothing “inspires” me – I simply feel that it is all of our responsibility to fight to keep families together, children out of cages, and maintain complete records so that children can be reunited with their families as quickly as possible. This is simply paying attention to this atrocity in our country and responding to it as a person of conscience and a person of faith. I do this work in the Metro NY Synod because as a community of faith we believe it is our duty to help and care for others. As God loves me, so I go out into the world to share that love, with the implied joy and peace and justice that it brings to others. It makes me sad to think that this behavior is not first instinct, but something we need to be inspired to do.

2. We know you are a very humble person, but is there any specific accomplishment that you felt led to your receipt of this award?

I guess the most notable achievement, which was in certainly not achieved alone, was the passing of the sanctuary resolution at the 2019 Church Wide Assemble of the ELCA, making the ELCA one of the first national church bodies to declare sanctuary in the United States. Having started and accompanying this initiative first in my local congregation, then our regional expression of the church, to then the national body was very meaningful to me.

3. What is your relationship with the New York Council of Churches? Have you ever worked with any past award recipients, and whom of their past recipients do you feel you best identify with?

Communities of faith who engage in social justice work know of the New York State Council of Churches and all they do and organize in order to advocate for a number of issues in our state. I have greatly benefited from their organizing, educating, awareness building, and advocating efforts, as well as from conversations and consultations with their leadership on a variety of topics. In this way, they not only do great work, but are also a wonderful resource for those looking to accomplish important work in their local contexts.

4.What does this award mean to you?

The New York State Council of Churches does so much amazing work in New York State in so many areas, that I am so humbled to be recognized by them. While I may have received the award, the work is not done by me alone, and I am so lucky be able to work alongside so many people committed to the work of justice in New York.

5. What is your advice to those who are seeking to help migrant minors, but don’t know how, particularly during the pandemic?

I would recommend seeking out partnerships, especially if you are just beginning to work or are volunteering in an area that is new to you. Find the people or organizations in your community who are already doing the work and ask them what they need. Be honest about what you are willing and able to give with regard to time, energy, or financial support, and then commit to that and do it consistently. None of this work is done immediately, rather it is a slow, long process of ushering better ways to be as a society. In this process, I would take an inventory of what you currently can do well. Starting from a place of evaluating your strengths will make for a more positive and direct impact in the area you want to affect change. I cannot answer this question without saying that you can always reach out to us at the Metro NY Synod to engage in work with migrant minors in our city, for we welcome people whose hearts and minds and hands are moved to do this work.

Michael Krymchantowski and Krymwood Flats Create Artistic Miami Vacation

In a New York minute more and more city dwellers are quickly headed down to Miami for some winter relief. While some flock to the shores of South Beach, others seek out the hip art scene across town. One of the hottest neighborhoods is the destination Wynwood. The fashionable blocks in Florida are known for intriguing murals, groundbreaking galleries, and imaginative street painters.

Tourists and locals alike gravitate to this region known as one of the active art districts in the world. And, so many real estate designers and professionals truly are inspired by the area including hotelier Michael Krymchantowski. The successful Brazilian businessman was one of the first to open doors on the streets that once laid out some undesirable abandoned lots. It was not overnight, but rather years of perseverance that brought in financial gain and a stellar reputation as a property developer with Krymwood Flats.

“I started years ago with an Airbnb multifamily building and remodeling each apartment making it a very pleasurable place to stay,” said the owner. “I have done the right thing by making the guests love it. We have hundreds of online positive reviews.”

In 2000, the property started as the first official hotel in the Wynwood neighborhood. Now it is a legendary landmark with tourists and locals alike. The accommodation’s business model is modern and colorful like the surrounding art installations on every corner of the district. Proud of his property that embraces the lively tone of the local streets, it even is decorated in a unique sunset-and-bamboo mural reflective of the region.

Michael Krymchatowski Outside Krymwood Flats

“When I found the neighborhood all my friends said I was crazy to finance in this underdeveloped zone,” he stated while talking about the initial investment. “I helped to clean the area. I made it a safe and hip place to stay in Miami.”

Everything about his studio properties that are rented by guests traveling to South Florida sparks originality. The grand hospitality speaks volumes and extends out beyond the corridors of the 21-unit establishment. Krymchantowski’s business continues to grow because people who stay at Krymwood Flats know they are coming for more than a place to sleep at night. They are coming for a lifestyle.

And Krymchantowski’s desire for continued growth in his incredible hotel portfolio is becoming a reality. In 2024, he is expanding with a new short-term rental concept that is due to produce great revenue. He is a businessman that is bringing business and jobs to Miami, as well as compassion to keep the neighborhood thriving. All this will be done with the great spirit of Wynwood continuing to succeed as a number one destination.

Carlton Fine Arts Ltd. Presents “Lost Museum,” a Pop Art Experience with Works by Artist, Linjie Deng

1

Opening on Tuesday, February 16, the show features works by the conceptual Chinese artist, Linjie Deng, alongside pieces by Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, Roy Lichtenstein, Mr. Brainwash and more

Carlton Fine Arts presents a new exhibition of works by conceptual Chinese artist, Linjie Deng, titled “Lost Museum,” alongside a curated set of works by Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, Marc Chagall, Roy Lichtenstein and Mr. Brainwash. Linjie Deng’s collection will be on display beginning Tuesday, February 16 through Thursday, March 18 at Carlton Fine Arts Ltd. location at 543 Madison Avenue, New York, NY 10022.

Linjie Deng is a 29-year-old artist who has lived in New York City since 2015 after graduating from art college in Beijing. Deng began studying Chinese ink art at the age of six and has turned his love and passion for multimedia, participatory and performance art into a career. Deng received his MFA degree from the School of Visual Arts in New York. Deng’s works have been shown in China, the Museum of Chinese in America and The Hamptons Virtual Art Fair.

Password

Password

Among the many highlights is Linjie Deng’s “Password” that explores the connectivity Wi-Fi brought to the world in the midst of the global pandemic lock downs. Wi-Fi and the internet play a major role in sharing content and shaping people’s judgements. “In recent years, we’ve seen the internet encourage fear, division and hate via social media,” said Deng. The artist’s work uses the concept of a password to unlock the key to help vanquish this virus of hate by “spreading love.” For this piece, Linjie Deng will be donating his profits from the sale to first responders at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital that were on the frontlines of fighting the COVID-19 pandemic in New York City.

Empty Heart Series (Feature Photo)

Another work featured by Deng is his “Empty Heart” series that is inspired by Deng’s immigration experience upon moving to the United States in 2015. Before coming to New York City, Linjie believed the American dream was directly correlated to material goods, from clothing to high-end meals. After arriving and trying to obtain what he imagined to be the American dream, Deng found his heart empty. “The series symbolizes the items I aspired to attain and serves as a reminder of what our true priorities should be, obtaining a full heart,” says Linjie Deng.

Moon Catcher

Moon Catcher

Moon Catcher” by Linjie Deng is also included within the exhibition. The piece is inspired by classic Chinese poetry and symbolism that is used when describing the moon. Deng demonstrates that the moon follows you wherever you are in the world and serves as a reminder of where you first encountered it, in your hometown. Just as Deng is reminded of his home village in the northwestern Shanxi Province, others can be reminded of where they grew up by looking to the moon and knowing that it is always at a fixed point. Steady and unchanging, Deng says that, “no matter how far we may be from home, we can always look back on the moon and remember our roots that have shaped us into who we are today.”

Linjie Deng’s “Lost Museum” exhibition will be on display with all works available for purchase at Carlton Fine Arts Ltd. 543 Madison Ave, New York, NY 10022 location. Exhibition hours are Mondays – Thursdays: 10 AM – 6 PM; Fridays: 10 AM – 4 PM; Saturdays: Closed; Sundays: 11 AM – 6 PM and by appointment. For those interested in checking out the exhibition outside of open hours, appointments can be scheduled by calling 212-593-2800 or email: info@carltonfa.com. Star Jones & Marquis Who’s Who Releases Inaugural African American Catalysts For Change List

Executive Editor Star Jones Presents 50 Honorees to Celebrate Black History Month

(UNIONDALE, NY – February 4, 2021) – Marquis Who’s Who (MWW), the world’s leading biographical publisher for the last 120 years, presents their inaugural African American Catalysts for Change list just in time to kick off Black History Month. Headed by MWW CEO Erica Lee, the list was curated by American lawyer, award winning media personality, and women’s and diversity advocate Star Jones, who as Executive Editor showcases a total of 50 honorees, highlighting activists, entertainers, politicians, government officials, sports stars and more.

MWW was established in 1898, documenting the history and lives of the world’s most prominent and renowned people in a print format. Now, the MWW set of directories has expanded to include accomplishments of some of the most notable figures from around the globe. Their compilations include Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who of American Women, Who’s Who of Emerging Leaders, and Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare, among others. MWW expanded its print series to include an online database, which is widely used for research by numerous top academic institutions as well as public and corporate libraries throughout the world.

“We wanted to create a list that showcased the true black thought leaders that have become those that will affect change as we move into an uneasy yet hopeful new year”, said CEO Erica Lee. “This compilation is Who’s Who’s way of paying homage to the most influential figures over the last few years that have gone above and beyond the call of duty.”

“I am humbled to join the men and women who have been identified as African American Catalysts for Change.  I see this list as phenomenal examples of the village of excellence African American leaders across all industries bring to the table of influence through their passion, vision, drive, determination and action.  These leaders not only “talk the talk,” they “walk the walk” in leading the way for the change that is sorely needed,”said Executive Editor and listee Star Jones.

Metropolitan New York Synod Celebrates Minority Women in Leadership This International Woman’s Month

0

This March – International Women’s Month – the Metropolitan New York Synod (MNYS) is commencing a celebration of the women in leadership in their more than 190 churches throughout the tri-state area.

During this period of an increased embrace of and heightened diviseness surrounding diversity in churches throughout the United States, the MNYS feels it is more important than ever to celebrate these milestones in the Lutheran Church.

Woman-identifying ministers of the MNYS synod will share public video testimonials with the public via YouTube and social media, starting in March and ongoing through August, when the Metropolitan New York Synod Annual Assembly will be held, either in person or virtually. You can find them here:

For example, one of the pastors is The Rev. Rebecca Seely (feature photo), Candidacy Coordinator, a queer pastor and a leader of the Metropolitan New York Synod who is married to another female pastor ordained by the MNYS.

In her video interview, Rev Seely says:

“… Being a woman pastor and a queer pastor are gifts for my ministry. They’re things that help other folks that identify as marginalized realize that they can be in leadership too. There is more excitement about the gifts people give to leadership.”

—The Rev. Rebecca Seely, Pastor & Candidacy Coordinator, Metropolitan New York Synod

The free, appointment-based show will put works that span 100 years on display from leading artists including Pablo Picasso, Joan Miró, Marcel Duchamp and more.

NEW YORK, NY, January, 2021 – Galerie Gmurzynska and its third-generation gallery owner, Isabelle Bscher, are pleased to present a new exhibition at its flagship NYC location. “Drawing Inspiration: A Century of Works on Paper,” will put a famed works spanning 100 years on display from such luminaries as Pablo Picasso, Joan Miró, Marcel Duchamp, Zaha Hadid, Ed Ruscha, Robert Delaunay and Jean Arp.

Among the many highlights is a large drawing by Joan Miró from 1930. Executed with a single, uninterrupted line, this work highlights the artists tremendous ability as a draughtsman and his affinity for the line. This drawing is a magnificent example of the importance of drawing for Miro, who understood it as autonomous practice – not as mere preparatory work – that allowed him to experiment with technique and expression. Examples of this series of drawings from 1930 are in numerous museums, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York and the Art Institute of Chicago.

One of the masters of synthetic cubism, Juan Gris, is represented with a delicate landscape drawing. Paysage (Maisons àBeaulieu) 1918 explores volumetric shapes and showcases the artist’s contributions to cubism.

Renowned architect Zaha Hadid is represented with a series of drawings for a building in, what was at the time, West Berlin. Showcasing the artist’s daring and unique signature style, the drawings promise a visionary addition to Berlin’s cityscape that was regrettably never executed. Galerie Gmurzynska has had a longstanding relationship with the late architect. The gallery’s main space in Zurich features a temporary exhibition design by Hadid, which was left in place after her passing to preserve her unique vision.

The show is being presented by the gallery’s 34-year-old art dealer, Isabelle. Her gallery has boasted the works of masters, in addition to those presented in the latest exhibition, including Donald Judd, James Turrell, Yves Klein, icons Sylvester Stallone and Karl Lagerfeld, as well as Zaha Hadid, Robert Indiana and Richard Meier. Her gallery’s VIP international opening dinners have been attended by major celebrities including Rebel Wilson, Sean Combs, Timbaland, Susan Sarandon, Cuba Gooding Jr. and Ellen Burstyn.

About Galerie Gmurzynska

Galerie Gmurzynska is an international art gallery with locations in Zurich and Zug, Switzerland, that specializes in modern and contemporary art as well as Russian avant-garde.

Founded in Cologne, Germany in 1965 and now housed in a landmark building at Paradeplatz in Zurich, Switzerland Galerie Gmurzynska is an internationally renowned gallery known for its museum quality and uniquely curated exhibitions.

The gallery was founded in 1965 in Cologne, Germany by Antonina Gmurzynska. From the beginning, the gallery was interested in organizing exhibitions that had a documentary character both through the choice of themes and through its publications. In its first year, an important exhibition of Japanese art from the 14th to the 19th century was held followed by an exhibition of French masterpieces from Pierre Bonnard up until the mid 20th century. The following year the gallery presented the work of David Burliuk–the first exhibition of Russian avant-garde. Up until 1971 the gallery’s program focused on Surrealism and international Constructivism in addition to Russian avant-garde. Subsequently, classic Modern art with a special focus on Picasso, Kurt Schwitters, Fernand Léger, Lyonel Feininger, and Robert and Sonia Delaunay were incorporated into the gallery’s program. From 1986 Krystyna Gmurzynska continued expanding the gallery’s classic modern program and in 1991 the gallery’s new Cologne building constructed by the Swiss architect, Roger Diener, was inaugurated. In 1993 the gallery expanded to a second location to a 14th century building in the heart of Zug, Switzerland. This building has given the gallery the opportunity to experiment with new exhibitions such as Yves Klein and Kazimir Malevichor. Aspects of Futurism in 1995, by juxtaposing modern and contemporary art with classic architectural elements of the Zug space. In 1996 Mathias Rastorfer became a partner of both extensions of the gallery, having been with it since 1991 when he left his position as Associate Director at Pace Gallery in New York. Under his influence and in addition to the gallery’s traditional repertoire, the work of contemporary artists such as Donald Judd, Louise Nevelson and Yves Klein amongst others, were incorporated. Ten years later the gallery opened its third branch in St. Moritz at Via Serlas, in 2003.

Forty years after its establishment, Krystyna Gmurzynska and Mathias Rastorfer relocated the gallery from Cologne to its new flagship location in Zurich’s Paradeplatz in 2005. The building that currently houses the gallery dates back to 1857 and it is the same block in which the Dada movement was founded in 1917, presenting its first exhibition at Galerie Dada. The first exhibition in Zurich was a solo exhibition by Alexander Calder, entitled The Modernist, that was executed in close collaboration with the Calder Foundation, who described it is as “rare to experience a presentation of this quality outside of a museum”. As with each exhibition at the gallery the show featured a fully illustrated catalogue with important essays.

Known for its museum quality and uniquely curated exhibitions, Galerie Gmurzynska has hosted over 150 shows in its various premises and published over 200 art historical catalogues and catalogue raisonné in close collaboration with experts worldwide. Moreover, the gallery has represented the estates of some of the world’s greatest artists such as Yves Klein, Louise Nevelson, Wifredo Lam and Roberto Matta, in some cases for several generations. Furthermore, the gallery represents contemporary artists Robert Indiana, Christoand Ronnie Cutrone among many others.

In 2018, the gallery opened a location in New York’s historic Upper East Side. Situated between The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Met Breuer, this location offers a fitting blend of the traditional and the modern in a historic area known for its premier and accredited cultural institutions. Galerie Gmurzynska continues to present unique exhibitions that are both historically well researched and scientifically documented. It also continues to work with leading art historians as well as collaborating with museums on exhibitions and for the enlargement of their permanent collections. Additionally, it currently participates in several art fairs such as Art Basel in Switzerland, Art Basel Miami Beach, Art BaselHong Kong, TEFAF NY Spring and EXPO Chicago. In the past it has taken part in FIAC, Frieze and PAD London and NY among other fairs.

About Isabelle Bscher of Galerie Gmurzynska

For 34-year-old art dealer Isabelle Bscher, her business runs in her blood. Isabelle is the third-generation owner of Galerie Gmurzynska – one of the best rated galleries who represent a cache of masters including Donald Judd, James Turrell, Yves Klein, icons Sylvester Stallone and Karl Lagerfeld, as well as Zaha Hadid, Robert Indiana, Richard Meier, Joan Miro, and Pablo Picasso

Isabelle grew up in the gallery, which was connected to her house, and learned to walk at the art fairs. She now splits her time between Zug in Switzerland and New York City where she has an apartment and earned her Master’s Degree in History of Contemporary Art at Sotheby’s.

Galerie Gmurzynska is regularly identified as a must-see booth at the world’s biggest art fairs including Art Basel, Frieze and TEFAF, with booth designers including Zaha Hadid, Alexandre de Betak, and Baz Luhrman. Isabelle was instrumental in organizing the 2014 Art Basel exhibition by Baz Luhrmann and Catherine Martin, in collaboration with famed music producer Nellee Hooper called, “A Kid Could Do That!” They resituated masterpieces by the likes of Pablo Picasso, Francis Bacon, Cy Twombly, Yves Klein, and Juan Miro into an old-fashioned school room, designed by a team of set painters and carpenters to challenge the idea that ‘a child could do this’ in regard to High Modernism. A dinner she organized in honor of the exhibition was attended by Sean Combs, Timbaland, Diana Picasso, and Cassie.

Ingrained in the fashion industry, Isabelle’s favorite designers include the gallery’s client, Karl Lagerfeld, as well as Hedi Slimane, Jeremy Scott, David Koma, and Maria Grazia Chiurri. Outside of the gallery, the art-world ingénue spends her time attending fashion shows, running, skiing, reading listening to music and practicing Pilates.
