Uprise Art Presents The Works of Artist Linda Colletta August 30th – September 12th

0

New York, NY –August, 2021 – Uprise Art, an acclaimed women-led company, will presenta special event to launch a new body of work by abstract artist Linda Colletta. This exhibition will feature pieces from her Brushworks series, on view from August 30th – September 12th online and at the gallery’s location at 264 Canal St #4w, New York, NY.

On September 9th from 6-8pm, the gallery will host an artist talk with Colletta and Uprise Art founder Tze Chun.

Colletta’s Brushworks series began after discovering a vintage wallpaper brush at a barn sale in Weston, CT. The resulting works reinforced her approach of repurposing, reinventing and reviving materials within her practice. Using sweeping gestural marks, she uses watery acrylic paint on canvas and paper, to allow for fluid brushstrokes and an element of chance to guide her process.

Acting in contrast to her more frenetic compositions, this series is an exercise in restraint and minimalism. Although deceptively effortless, the elegance lies in precision, muscle memory and the countless hours of practice to master them.

The special event will feature works including Atlantic III and Neon Vermillion IV from 2021.

Colletta stated, “My Brushworks are a practice I come back to again and again. They are a place where I can re-set and simply zen-out to the fundamentals of painting that are at the core of all my work. They center me and give me time to think about all the other work I am scheming to create. The result is an elegant simplicity steeped in a rich history of practice, patience and discipline.”

Colletta is an abstract artist, who has been creating art in various mediums for over 25 years. Her work has been exhibited at Monika King Projects, White Room Gallery, Southport Gallery, Burning Man, The Affordable Art Fair, and The Other Art Fair. Private collections include Google, Memorial Sloan Kettering, New York Presbyterian, 277 Fifth Ave and Justin Bieber. At 19 years old, she began her artistic journey as a scenic artist creating backdrops and scenery for live televised performances by Coldplay, Brittney Spears, Jennifer Lopez, Green Day, among many others.

Uprise Art is an online art gallery that helps you discover original contemporary artwork by emerging artists for the spaces where you live and work. Their team of in-house art advisors curate for individual collectors, corporate collections, and architectural projects around the world. Uprise Art is a women-led company and more than 70% of their roster consists of women and LGBTQ+ artists and artists of color.

Pekarna, A Slovenian-American Restaurant; the Largest Restaurant and Entertainment Complex on the Upper West Side

Pekarna New York, was conceptualized by Australian-native Dean O’Neill, introduces Slovenian food and culture to New Yorkers in the largest restaurant and events venue on the Upper West Side.

Owner Dean O’Neil

Combining O’Neill’s backgrounds in engineering and hospitality, the 6,500 square foot labyrinth of dining rooms and bars is structurally designed for a good time. Engineered for optimal customer service, each room has its own entrance, maximum soundproofing as to not disturb its UWS neighbors, as well as distinct features designed specifically for each room such as the lighting, furnishings and HVAC so that every guest can enjoy their ideal dining experience.

O’Neill has been working in the hospitality and custom technology arena for over 20 years and was the owner of Infirmary, a French Quarter inspired creole restaurant that was listed number one on Eater’s Best Cajun Restaurants in NYC story. An Avionics engineer by trade, he has created custom designs for The VNYL – Vintage new York lifestyle, Hotel Chantelle, The Writing Room and many other notable venues in New York City.

The idea for Pekarna New York stemmed from one of Mr. O’Neill’s important projects in Slovenia back in 2003, which included The Opera Bar and The Versace Apartment both located in Ljubljana, the capital city of Slovenia. Later on, in 2018, he would complete his own endeavor called The Pekarna Boutique Apartments, which launched in January of 2018. It was during this time when O’Neill fell in love with the food culture of Slovenia and wanted to bring the tastes and culture to New York City.

Dean O’Neill has assembled a culinary team with the appointment of Executive Chef Kamal Hoyte and Consulting Pastry Chef Alma Rekvic. Leading the helm in the kitchen is Chef Hoyte, who grew up in the Caribbean Island of St. Vincent and The Grenadines. A passionate love for the culinary arts drove him to The Culinary Institute of America and upon graduating he sharpened his skills working with some of the most renowned Chefs in NYC at Oceana Restaurant and Restaurant Daniel. Acclaimed top Slovenian Pastry Chef and cookbook author, Alma Rekvic, who was a Chief Judge on Master Chef Slovenia, was also tapped by O’Neill to design a few Slovenian dishes along with the dessert menu, as Slovenia is well-known for their special desserts and sweets.

MENU

Chef Hoyte’s dinner menu will be a melding of traditional Slovenian and New American seasonal dishes with French techniques. To start, an array of appetizers is spotlighted with Truffle Matzo Ball Soup with roasted chicken thighs, chicken consommé and truffle matzo balls; Crispy Wild Boar with Rice, Slovenian-inspired crispy spiced batter with house-smoked boar, served with a mustard and sweet chili sauce; and Artichoke Mac and Cheese, featuring a mix of cheeses, elbow macaroni and breadcrumbs with house blend Artichoke baked in.

Chef Hoyte in the Kitchen

Burgers include the Pekarna Buger, a colossal burger with a wagyu beef patty, Swiss cheese, lettuce, tomato, house pickled cucumber, pickled onions and house BBQ sauce in a toasted Kaiser bun topped with a fried onion ring; and the Chicken Shnitzel Burger, lightly fried chicken breast with coleslaw, house Cajun mayo and a sunny side egg on a toasted Kaiser bun.

Pekarna Burger

Standout mains are the Pan Seared Bone-In Chicken, soft brined free-range chicken breast, confit cippolini onions, glazed rainbow carrots, potato soufflé with a Movia Slovenian wine sauce; the Slovenian Style Herb Crusted Rack of Lamb, served with potato soufflé, roasted Brussels, carrot creme and Movia Slovenian red wine reduction.

Desserts

Acclaimed Pastry Chef Alma Rekvic ‘s desserts bring true Slovenian sweets to the people of New York City. The Apple Wrap or “Slovenian Apple Pie” is made with baked apple roll, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla gelato. As Kremšnita Cake or “Slovenian Bled cake” is traditionally made in Slovenia with numerous variations unique to specific regions and people, the puff pastry with vanilla custard, sugar and seasonal berries features Pekarna’s own variation, a passionfruit glaze, creating a new flavor profile.

Slovenian Wine

Indigenous Slovenian grapes offer New Yorkers new flavor profiles from family-owned wineries focusing on the areas and cuisines Pekarna represents. Standouts include biodynamic Movia Sauvignon Blanc 2018 Primoje Brda among whites, the most refined of the skin contact (or Orange) Slovenian wines, the Ferdinand Rebula Brutus, 2016, Primorje Brda; Chef Alma’s recommended Slovenian red, the Marjan Simčič “Selecija” Pinot Noir Goriska Brda.

The star of the wine list is the special handling of the Slovenian sparkling Movia Puro Rose, which remains fermenting until it is disgorged at the table, the only possible method for wine to be completely free of Sulphur, sugars and additives.

Cocktail Program

The robust cocktail program, curated by Mr. O’Neill and head bartender David Hu, takes guests back to the origins of mixology combining more spirits and quality liqueurs than juices to make drinks boozier and more fruit forward than sweet.  Quality products are used to achieve this goal including Giffard liqueurs, which make all the difference.

The cocktail menu features 20 selections like the Ying Yang made with Absolut Grapefruit vodka or Malfy Rose Gin, limoncello, St. Germain, Giffard lychee liqueur and Mette Spiriteuex; and the Melting Pot, Venezuelan Diplomatico Rum Reserva Exclusive, Giffard apricot liqueur, pineapple juice, and lime liqueur.Other cocktail highlights are the M47 Bramble, named after the gin used to make this cocktail. Monkey 47 uses 47 botanicals in the production of their gin making this a world class winner. You will find this on tap, along with 3 other cocktails on tap, and it includes Monkey 47 Gin, limoncello, cane sugar syrup, and a Giffard Cassis (blackberry) liqueur. The MacSazerac and Rare MacSazerac, are first of their kind Macallan cocktails. Created in conjunction with Macallan they contain Macallan 12 or Macallan Rare Casket Whiskey, cane sugar, absinthe and Peychaud’s.

Cocktails

Frozen “summer” drinks are served all year round and include the unique Frisky, a frozen whiskey with blue lemonade and the Swedish Colada with Bacardi coconut rum, Kronan Swedish Punsch liqueur, colada mix and honey bitters.

The team will also serve house made Low ABV Spiked Seltzers with liqueurs in flavors such as blackberry, strawberry and passionfruit.

Paying homage to the drink of great artists such as Edgar Allan Poe, Van Gogh and Hemingway, the menu will spotlight many different absinthes, which will be served by the traditional drip method. Four rare Gold Pineapples, which hold two cocktails and four Gold Swans, which hold five cocktails, will be available for sharing throughout the night at a discounted price, but its first come, first served. Any drinks or cocktails can be put into these vessels making them the perfect way to enjoy two or more drinks.

Brunch

The team at Pekarna is looking to reinvent the way guests view brunch, offering quality drinks and a playful menu of dishes to enrich and satisfy.” Featured starters include the Avocado & Crab Toast with cucumber and wild Jumbo crab meat on toasted focaccia. Along with the current brunch menu, exciting new options including waffles and pancake dishes will be added in the coming months.

Brunch drinks include the Champagne Mimosa with fresh squeezed orange juice and GH Mumm Brut Champagne; Passionfruit Mai Tai with light and dark rum mix, Giffard passionfruit liqueur and fresh passionfruit; and A Warm Morning with Jack Daniels, Cocchi, apricot liqueur and angostura bitters.

Interior

Pekarna, which means bakery in Slovenian and other Slavic languages, was in fact a bakery prior to the renovation. While building out the event spaces O’Neill actually discovered four ovens built into the foundation and extending under the sidewalk. The unassuming exterior opens into adjacent dining and bar rooms. The main dining room is set with Bosnian furniture between the variety of rare, modern and vintage glass chandeliers and the durable Croatian wood floor that absorbs enough sound for all guests to talk and interact comfortably. Beside it, the 592 Bar room, with its AC on full blast for those who like a chillier environment, has a greater focus on bar seating perfect for private parties. The 592 Bar’s gloss-finished brick walls are complimented by the “alcohol art” displaying the bars top spirits.

Interior

Among the restaurant’s nine total bathrooms, there are four different ADA bathrooms, one of which is completely touchless, and each uniquely designed with notable fixtures such as a vintage water bottle tap sink.

Event Spaces

The lower level, which can be accessed by an elevator or by the stairs, has four differentevent spaces for private and public parties, coordinated by Events Manager Lana Asanin, that are all soundproof and claim their own separate entrances and exits.

The Elixir Room serves as a true multimedia space with a 106-inch drive down screen and 7.1 digital surround sound with stadium banquette seating. The lighting and seating is configurable for events from e-sports and movie premieres to conference meetings or the Super Bowl. A mixing deck and wireless mics are on hand to create any event required complete with a DJ plug in.

Separating the north and south sides of the lower level is the Dragon Room, featuring a Perrier-Jouët Champagne Bar and two cocktails on tap.  Reminiscent of a European getaway for a wine night and ready with a screen for a viewing party, the Dragon Room is another versatile option among Pekarna’s private spaces.

The Garden Room is the outdoor backyard featuring white-clothed tables and greenery found throughout with an antique swing, a perfect place to escape the sounds of the city. With a separate entrance and separate bathroom, guests can have a completely outdoor experience, be it for COVID safety or even surprising an unsuspecting guest of honor inside.

The Perilo Room is an additional dining area for guests that cannot be accommodated upstairs and features a Monkey 47 gin bar. Perilo is a Slovenian word that means laundry, paying tribute to Mrs. Kim’s laundry that used to be there. Beginning in September, this room will host The Alice Experience, a 90-minute interactive performance Wednesdays – Sundays complete with cocktails and the madness of Wonderland.

Pekarna’s expansive set of rooms fit for dining, drinking and public or private events is certainly enough to get lost in, but you will always find your way back to a bar.

‘Through A Screen Darkly’ Details Pandemic Mental Health Struggles Dr. Ahron Friedberg’s Book Offers Context on CDC & KFF Data

4

\

New York, New York, August , 2021 — In his latest book, Through a Screen Darkly: Psychoanalytic Reflections During the Pandemic, New York City psychiatrist Dr. Ahron Friedberg portrays a range of individuals dealing with mental health issues related to the pandemic, providing context for these harrowing recent statistics:

  • The average share of adults reporting symptoms of anxiety disorder and/or depression almost quadrupled from January 2019 to June 2021*
  • 36% of adults report difficulty sleeping, 32% cited eating problems, and 12% reported increase in alcohol and substance abuse*
  • Communities of color and essential workers are suffering disproportionately*
  • Young adults, more likely to lose jobs and / or be in lockdowns, are also suffering disproportionately*
  • Suspected suicide attempts have increased in teenagers, especially girls**

Commenting on the statistics, Dr. Friedberg stated: “Stress has physical as well as mental consequences. It weakens the immune system and increases the incidence of major depression as well cardiac and pulmonary issues.”

Friedberg continues: “I coined the term Post-COVID Re-entry Syndrome to describe the stress that people suffer as they re-enter the workforce, reconnect with friends and family, and attempt to resume some semblance of a normal life.”

To manage this anxiety, Dr. Friedberg recommends:

  • Taking a walk outdoors
  • Connecting with friends and family – safely
  • Self- Reflection

If symptoms become severe, he recommends consulting a trained mental health professional. Primary care physicians and clergy can also provide resource and emotional support.

“The ultimate goal is to bolster your resilience,” states Dr. Friedberg. “In my experience counseling patients through the pandemic, I found that they had greater capacity for resilience than they realized. Deploying this resilience was their pathway to successfully managing their mental health.”

Through a Screen Darkly offers practical examples of how patients coped with these conditions and (in many cases) found the resilience to get past them.

In addition to Through a Screen Darkly, Dr. Friedberg wrote Psychotherapy and Personal Change: Two Minds in a Mirror with Dr. Sandra Sherman. With Dr. Jack Hirschowitz, Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Mount Sinai, he wrote Flashing Seven: Seven Essential Skills for Living and Leading. With his father, Dr. Eugene Friedberg, he wrote Between Us, A Father and Son Speak

Balade East Village Merges the Authentic Flavors of Lebanese and Middle Eastern Cuisines

Balade is the Lebanese word for “produce of the highest quality.” And that’s what diners can expect at Balade in the East Village. Chef/Restaurateur Roland Semaan is a native of Beirut, Lebanon’s Capital City. His interest in hospitality started in the kitchen of his childhood home in Lebanon as he watched his mother and grandmother cook. His father was a diplomat, and the family home was the host site of elaborate dinner parties that welcomed political guests from around the world.

At eighteen, he traveled to Le Bouveret, Switzerland where he attended Cesar Ritz College and studied hotel and restaurant management. After graduating, he went to Dubai for a year to work in the hotel industry. He then came to the United States to attend Johnson and Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island where he earned his master’s in culinary arts. From there, Semaan moved to New York City where he began his career at Great Performances,a catering and events company managing the company’s large-scale events. He then took a management position with the Atlantic Grill, part of B.R. Guest hospitality. From there, he went to work at the Hilton Hotel in Times Square to serve as food and beverage director. During his tenure at Atlantic Grill, Semaan’s entrepreneurial spirit guided him to develop his own restaurant concept. He found the perfect location in the East Village and returned to his Lebanese roots with the opening of Balade Restaurant in 2010. “That was my mission,” said Semaan. “To introduce Lebanese cuisine to New Yorkers.” The restaurant has since become an East Village staple serving the neighborhood and destination clientele.

Executive Chef: Chef Micheline Wakim was a home cook before she was recruited by Semaan to work as sous chef of Balade. Over time, Semaan trained her as she honed her cooking skills and leaned to re-imagine his family recipes passed down from generations. Wakim was promoted to executive chef and Omar Douad, a native of Jordan, joined the team as chef de cuisine. Douad brought his Middle Eastern background to round out the menu with more vegetarian choices and adding more traditionally served larger platters typical of Middle Eastern tradition.

Dinner can begin with a spread of savory, shareable plates called Mezze. Jwaneh are chargrilled chicken wings that are marinated for 48 hours with Balade proprietary spices and imported olive oil from Lebanon; Mouhmara, freshly-ground red peppers and walnuts topped with pomegranate; Makanek beef sausages flamed table side with fresh lemon juice.

Family-style platters like the Supreme Mixed Grill is served covered in Balade’s famous house-made bread and edged-open to reveal a medley of grass-fed beef kafta, lamb kabab, chicken tawook, and lamb chops served with chargrilled vegetables. The Samke Mechwiye is a whole grilled branzino, bone-in, marinated in lemon, olive oil and salt served with tahini dipping sauce. Djej Al Fahem is a half chicken marinated with their Balade’s signature recipe of fresh herbs and spices served with hand-cut fries.

Manakeesh, or Lebanese Pizza, is kneaded with fresh dough. Signature pie Lahme Baajin is crafted from house-made seasoned ground-lean beef, mixed with finely diced tomatoes and onions. Jebne is made from a combination of white cheeses and served with a side of tomato slices.

An alternative to Lebanese pizza is “Pita Pitza.” Created by Semaan, this kind of pizza yields a crispier crust. The Sultan El Shawarma is made with thinly-sliced marinated beef and roasted with onions, cucumbers, tomatoes, and topped off with a drizzle of tahini and a pinch of a spicy mixture called za’atar.

Desserts

Ashta consists of “white pudding,” a rich cream traditionally made by repeatedly skimming the film that appears on the surface of boiled milk. The pudding is then coated with honey and topped with pistachio and fresh strawberries. Mouhallabie is a recipe handed down from his grandmother. It consists of a milk pudding topped with ground pistachios and orange blossom. Lebanese Ice Cream is available in pistachio and vanilla made from rose water.

A well-curated wine list consists of mostly red and white wine imported from Lebanon, France and Italy.

Their beer selections come from Lebanon, Jordan, Turkey and Morocco.

Design

The interior design reflects the culture of Lebanon adorned with circular cut pieces of wooden cedar trees and Arabesque tiles – all imported from Lebanon. Outdoor seating is offered with transparent partitions, picnic tables and chairs, and astro turf. Hardcover cookbooks line a top shelf above the outdoor dining area.

About SASF

The Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation (SASF) is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization that relies on the generosity of their donors and volunteers to care to for the homeless animals in its community, and to place them in loving “forever homes.” The number of animals in need of help is growing every day. The overpopulation of pets on Long Island is a major issue. Whether caring for strays found wandering the streets, rescuing neglected and abandoned animals, or saving dogs from the horrors of the puppy mill industry, the shelter is a safe haven for all animals and for some, a last resort. Without SASF, these animals would not be able to survive. The shelter provides a steppingstone for animals to find a loving home. It offers them housing, food, medical treatment, training, and rehabilitation when necessary.

They not only take in community pets but also partner with other rescues and shelters, located on Long Island, New York and areas in the South including Puerto Rico, to save animals that are in dire situations.

This past year, the Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation found homes for over 800 animals and provided the community with necessary resources like their Wellness Clinic, Pet Food Pantry, Advo-Cats Program, low-cost spay/neuter mobile clinic, as well as other community outreach programs. These services help pet owners who fall on hard times keep their animals with them and out of the shelters.

(August 10, 2021 – Southampton, NY) – The Hope for Depression Research Foundation’s Sixth Annual 5K Race of Hope gathered 220 men, women, and children on Sunday morning in Southampton Village in support of mental health awareness and research.  Iconic journalist Katie Couric cheered the crowd as Celebrity Grand Marshal during the festive event that raised $325,000 for research into new and better treatments for depression and anxiety.

“Mental health is such a critically important issue, and it’s heartening to see it come out of the woodwork in a way that is unprecedented,” said Couric, speaking from the steps of the Southampton Cultural Center right before the 8:30 am starting gun.

She added:  “HDRF gathers all the top-rated brain scientists in the country and the world to figure out how to tackle these psychological issues, because they are like physical issues and they should be treated as such. A better understanding of how our brains work and how our brain chemistry works — it’s so important.”

HDRF Founding Chair Audrey Gruss and Board member Arthur Dunnam, both Hamptons residents, also stood with Couric as Co-Grand Marshals of the 5K walk/run, which is a USA Track and Field-sanctioned event.

“I founded HDRF to lead research in the causes of depression and in their treatment,” said Gruss to the crowd.  “Due to you and your support out here every year for five years, HDRF is now the leading depression research organization in the country. We have several new treatments in clinical trials and we won’t quit until there’s a cure.”

At the starting gun, participants set off in staggered waves to complete the 3.1-mile course around Lake Agawam and the tree-lined streets of Southampton, NY.   Many sported hats, shirts and vests in HDRF’s signature yellow, creating a sea of sunshine against the backdrop of cloudy skies.

The staggered heats were a safety measure to avoid crowding and ensure a safe return to in person racing.  While fundraising broke records, the number of participants was down compared to normal years with turn-outs of over 700.  This is likely due to the slow reopening of public life and multiple demands on our time in the post-Covid era.

Along with the in-person event, HDRF Race organizers also provided a virtual “opening ceremony” for another 300 participants who signed up to complete the distance in their own hometowns.   A live broadcast streamed on the HDRF website, featuring messages of hope from runners across the country and a countdown to the 8:30 AM starting gun.

At the close of the Race, Audrey Gruss handed out Awards for several categories. First Prize for best male time went to Sergey Avramenko, and First Prize for the best female time went to Una Broderick.   The Award for Top Fundraising Team went to Jessica Wagner and Team Wagner, which raised $2,000.  The Award for Top Individual Fundraiser went to Arthur Dunnam, who raised $36,468 from friends and family for his race.  The award for largest team went to Natasha Jefferies and her team, Dakari’s Heartbeat, with 13 members.

All race participants received an ultra-lightweight vest, hat, race shirt, mask, and finisher medal.  The first, second, and third place winners received cash prizes of up to $500. Successful fundraisers also received special prizes for raising upwards of $250 and $1,000.

Race participants included: Lisa M. Aery, Carolina Benabib, Bill Bone, Janna Bullock, Jamee and Peter Gregory, Kim Heirston, Tania Higgins, Karen and Richard LeFrak, Matt Oleszczuk, Jenny and John Paulson, James and Teresa Remez and their daughters Sofia and Lila, Mirella Cameran-Reilly, Kevin Richards, Scott Snyder, Susan and Rob Taylor, Victoria Wyman, Clelia & Tom Zacharias and Richard Ziegelasch.

The Race of Hope starts the lead-in to HDRF’s 15th Anniversary HOPE Luncheon Seminar which will be held on November 10th at the Plaza Hotel in New York City. The event will focus on “The Importance of the Gut Microbiome to Your Mental Health,” and will salute the research progress of HDRF’s acclaimed team of world-renowned brain researchers.

What is HDRF, and a quick overview of their work/achievements in the past decade:

•                   HDRF is the leading non-profit dedicated solely to advanced depression research.

•                   Audrey Gruss founded the organization in 2006 in memory of her mother, Hope, who struggled with depression.

•                   The mission of HDRF is to fund cutting-edge neuroscience research into the origins, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of depression and other related mood disorders.

•                   In 2010, HDRF launched its Depression Task Force – a collaboration of nine leading scientists, at the frontiers of brain science, from different research institutions across the U.S. and Canada. To accelerate breakthrough research, they share ongoing results, in real-time, at the HDRF Data Center.

•                   HDRF has invested over $35 million in advanced depression research to date.

About Depression:

•                   In the United States, depression affects over 20-million adults each year – that is one in 10 adults.

•                   Depression is the leading cause of suicide. In the United States, one person dies by suicide every 11 minutes – over 47,000 people per year.

•                   Depression is the leading cause of disability worldwide.

•                   Depression costs society $210 billion annually – 60% of which represents reduced efficiency at work and costs related to suicide.

The Crisis in Research and Treatment:

•                   50% of those diagnosed with depression do not fully respond to existing treatments.

•                   In 35 years since the introduction of Prozac and other SSRI anti-depressants, there has been almost no change in the treatment of depression.

•                   Although depression is one of the most serious and prevalent conditions in the US, it is ranked 77th (out of 250) in the amount of federal funding it receives.

•                   Most of the major pharmaceutical companies have discontinued brain research.

What Makes HDRF Different:

•                   The Depression Task Force represents the most innovative approach to neuroscience research today.

•                   The Task Force has created an unprecedented research plan with each member executing a piece of the plan in their own laboratories.  By avoiding well-worn paths of research, the team is shaking up the field for answers that will finally lead to new treatments for depression.

•                   They share results in real-time at a centralized data bank. This allows them to leverage data to accelerate research. This is unheard of in the entire scientific research field which is normally competitive and not collaborative.

Abstract Artist Linda Colletta at Art Market Hamptons Fair Aug. 12th – 15th

Abstract artist Linda Colletta will be presenting her work at the upcoming Art Market Hamptons with The White Room Gallery on August 12th – 15th at The Bridgehampton Museum (2368 Montauk Highway). Colletta will be showcasing her large scale work including Clandestine Crunch from her Pools series and Queen of the Night from her Dropcloths series, which can be viewed at booths #D05 and #C39

Linda’s body of work explores themes of addiction, dysmorphia, pretenses and what’s hiding underneath. As a recovering compulsive over-eater, she aptly refers to her ever-growing large scale works as the “all you can eat” paintings. The process is cyclical and waste-less, each piece leads to the next in its materiality. Nothing is thrown away; dried paint, paint water or scrap canvas. By incorporating all ‘leftovers’ from previous paintings into future pieces, a thread is woven through the entire body of work. The visual narrative of these candy-coated compositions speaks to a personal and societal battle with food and the mental mania of obsession and addiction. These compositions, with a whimsical grit, are in direct pursuit of radical honesty and reckless abandon.

She works within the lineage of abstract expressionism, painting flat on large-scale tables with acrylic, oil stick, spray paint, ink, graphite, remnant canvas and sewing, on upcycled vintage house painters drop cloths incorporating the history of random paint, dirt, spills, drips, and seams left behind. The work is completely spontaneous and unplanned, she allows the process to unfold and reveal itself in real time.

Linda Colletta is an abstract artist, who has been creating art in various mediums for over 25 years. At 19 years old, she began her artistic journey as a scenic artist creating backdrops and scenery for live televised music performances. She left the scenic art world after 15 years to dedicate her life to her painting career.  Her work has been exhibited at Monica King Projects, White Room Gallery, Southport Gallery, Burning Man, The Affordable Art Fair, and The Other Art Fair. Private collections include Justin Bieber, Memorial Sloan Kettering, New York Presbyterian, and 277 Fifth Ave.
