Carlton Fine Arts Presents Miami Art Week in New York

(New York, NY – November 16, 2021) – Carlton Fine Arts Ltd. will present Miami Art Week in New York, showcasing all the beloved artists one would find at the Miami fairs this December. The gallery will feature key works by Warhol, Haring, Basquiat, Miro, Chagall, Mr. Brainwash, Kaws, Linjie Deng and more. The exhibition will be on view from November 15, 2021 – January 15, 2022, at the Carlton Fine Arts Ltd. location at 543 Madison Avenue, New York, NY 10022.

The gallery’s three floors will showcase some of the most iconic works from the key pop artists that will be highlighted in Miami. Those include Jean-Michel Basquiat’s Boxer Rebellion from 1982, Marc Chagall’s Ville de Paris from 1966, Damien Hirst’s Splatter Mickey from 2015, Kaws’ You Should Know, I Know from 2015, Jeff Koons’ Monkey Train from 2007, Roy Lichtenstein’s Reflection on Soda Fountain from 1991, Mr. Brainwash’s Follow Your Dreams from 1966, Andy Warhol’s Ingrid Bergmann from 1986, and Linjie Deng’s Moon Catcher from 2020, to name a few.

Honoring Michael Phelps & Jim Irsay at 15th Annual HOPE Luncheon Seminar While Enlightening About Gut Health

(New York, NY – November 15, 2021) –The country’s leading non-profit dedicated to advanced depression research, Hope for Depression Research Foundation (HDRF), held its 15th annual HOPE luncheon seminar at The Plaza Hotel on November 10th. The seminar focused on “The Importance of the Gut Microbiome For Your Mental Health” and research highlights from the HDRF’s renowned Depression Task Force. The event drew over 280 guests and raised over $750,000 for life-saving mental health research.

2021 HOPE Award for Depression Advocacy and Owner of the Indianapolis Colts, Jim Irsay, received the Community Ambassador of Hope Award.  Findlay Galleries, represented by CEO James Borynack and COO Adolfo Zaralegui, received the HOPE Corporate Visionary Award.

Master of Ceremonies, Chuck Scarborough began the event by welcoming everyone and speaking about the pressures society has faced during the pandemic and lockdown over the past 18 months.  He then took the audience back to 2006, the year HDRF was founded, covering major headlines and happenings of the day, such as the growth of Facebook.  He also mentioned that in 2006, depression was severely stigmatized and research into new treatments was stalled.   He stated, “It seemed there was no hope,” before introducing HDRF Founder and Chair Audrey Gruss.

Gruss then came to the podium to discuss the staggering statistics of depression today and the foundation’s significant accomplishments in its mission to address the epidemic.  Depression is the Number One cause of disability worldwide and is at an all-time high across the world in the wake of COVID-19.

Gruss noted the Foundation works on two fronts: 1) to raise awareness educate the public about depression and 2) research into the root causes of depression in the brain and new and better treatments.

On the education front, Gruss spoke about the myriad of topics covered at the annual luncheon seminar over 15 years, from depression and genes, depression and pain, depression in children, depression in men, to depression through the lifecycle.   She also highlighted the many celebrities that have appeared at the Foundation’s events to raise awareness, including Lorraine Bracco, Terry Bradshaw, Jane Pauley, Anderson Cooper, Brooke Shields, and Taraji P. Henson, to name a few. Gruss noted another way in which the Foundation raises awareness is through the Hope Fragrance Collection, which gives 100% of the net profits to depression research.

Gruss also pointed to remarkable research progress by the Foundation’s acclaimed Depression Task Force, which she convened in 2010.   The DTF has largely defined the entire filed of depression research in the past decade and currently has two potential new categories of medication in clinical trials.  Several more potential new treatments are in the pipeline.

Ms. Gruss also poignantly shared that she launched the foundation in 2006 in honor of her mother, Hope, who struggled with depression. She watched her mother endure treatment by trial and error, hospitalizations, and the life-sapping loss of energy that is the mark of major depression.  Conventional medications for depression, she said, have not changed in over 35 years and are not fully effective in 50% of patients.  Furthermore, these medications are all based on the same formula as the first SSRI, Prozac, introduced in 1985.  Gruss said HDRF is determined to change that by discovering new targets for treatment in the brain.  

HDRF Executive Director Louisa Benton took the floor to speak about how the Hope for Depression Research Foundation has built national awareness, even despite the pandemic. She highlighted the Foundation’s Race of Hope, a 5K Run/Walk in Palm Beach, FL in the winter and Southampton, NY in the summer. During the pandemic both races went virtual, an adaptation that allowed thousands of runners from all over the nation to participate.  Even as the race of Hope returns to in-person events, HDRF will host a Nationwide Virtual Race of Hope in May as part of the mental health awareness month celebration. Benton also spoke about the New Treatment Initiative (NTI), whereby HDRF has awarded four “Defeating Depression Awards” to promising new treatments for depression in development at universities across the country.

Dr. Helen Mayberg, a member of the Depression Task Force, then came on stage to give the audience an update on important research progress.  Mayberg is a pioneer in deep brain stimulation, a surgical intervention for severe, resistant depression.  She is currently the founding director of the Center for Circuit Therapeutics at Mount Sinai School of Medicine.  Her work has helped the Depression Task Force identify brain circuits in depression.

The medical keynote speaker, Dr. Conor Liston, Associate Professor of Neuroscience and Psychiatry at the Brain and Mind Institute at Weill Cornell Medicine, delivered a presentation about the importance of the gut microbiome to our mental health.    Every human has a second brain, he said, called the enteric nervous system, consisting of 100 million neurons embedded in the walls of our digestive tract.  There, too, live trillions upon trillions of bacteria of different species known as the microbiome.  These microbes play a role not only in intestinal health, but also, it has been recently discovered, in psychiatric health, including our risk of developing depression.  Liston’s own research studies have significantly moved this new branch of science forward.

Findlay Galleries is one of the nation’s oldest art galleries, with branches in New York and Palm Beach, and they are a longtime supporter of HDRF and other mental health non-profits.  Borynack stated, “The Hope for Depression Research Foundation’s outstanding work and extraordinary accomplishments, year in and year out, keep us focused on our community support.”

Owner of the Indianapolis Colts, Jim Irsay accepted the Community Ambassador of Hope Award.  Irsay and the Colts Community created the “Kicking the Stigma” campaign to make it safe to talk about mental illness, and to expand mental health treatment services throughout their Indianapolis community. Irsay stated, “When life doesn’t make sense anymore and you don’t have hope and you don’t want to live, it’s a tough place to be.” He continued, “It’s an illness, and it’s been stigmatized, and that’s the reason we started “Kicking the Stigma.” People who are sick are afraid to speak up, and they don’t want to seek help.”

“And now it’s time for the GOAT,” she said, using the acronym for Greatest of All Time. “While no man could touch him in the water, outside of the pool he relentlessly battled with the demons of depression and anxiety. He has used his fame as a platform to be open about his experience with depression and to spread hope and understanding.”

Phelps took the stage to speak in a Q&A with Gruss about his struggles with depression.

When asked about his first moment of depression, Phelps stated, “In 2004 I won eight total medals, six gold and two bronze, and coming back from that is when I first noticed a depression spell.”

He continued: “2014 — that was where I found myself not wanting to be alive.” He went on to speak about entering into a treatment center after hitting rock bottom and feeling it was one of the scariest places he has ever been.  He noted that ultimately those 45-days helped him to better understand himself and continuing in therapy is why he was able to stand on the stage today.

Gruss then asked about other athletes such as Simone Biles and Naomi Osaka coming forward about their own experience with depression. Phelps stated, “What Naomi Osaka did on her own platform, in her own words and telling her own story… wow. We can all learn some things from her.” He continued, “All of these athletes and celebrities, these human beings that have stepped up and shared their experience about mental health have been able to save lives.”

When speaking about The Michael Phelps Foundation IM program he stated, “I want to give every kid the chance to accomplish their goals or their dreams, no matter how easy or hard it is to get there. It wasn’t easy getting to where I was and it sure wasn’t easy getting back in 2016 with the journey, but it was a dream nobody else was going to stand in front of.” The audience burst into laughter when Phelps noted, “I had people doubting me my whole life. I had a teacher in sixth grade telling me I would never amount to anything… thanks.”

The Q&A concluded with Phelps responding to a question about his work with Talkspace and helping people receive talk therapy. He noted, “I can make the joke now that I learned to communicate at the age of 30, but at least I got there. I am just trying to spread that message, as it’s something so simple, but something so helpful just to be able to open up and share.”

Each year, the HOPE Luncheon Seminar is held at the Plaza Hotel in New York City and is attended by over 300 top New York philanthropists, asset managers, business and media professionals, socialites and celebrities who gather to raise awareness about depression and its related mood disorders as well as funds for continued research.

SECRET CINEMA PRESENTS ‘GHOSTBUSTERS: THE GATES OF GOZER’ A VIRTUAL LIVE EXPERIENCE

In the lead up to the theatrical release on November 19 for the anticipated next film in the franchise, Ghostbusters: Afterlife, Secret Cinema announced today, Ghostbusters: The Gates of Gozer, an innovative virtual live experience based on the supernatural world of Ghostbusters in collaboration with Sony Pictures. The virtual live experience will launch on December 1, 2021, and general ticket sales will be available from 9:00 a.m. PST / 12:00 p.m. EST on November 1, 2021.

Set one year after Ghostbusters (1984), which was written by Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis and directed by Ivan Reitman, as the Ghostbusters’ bask in their victory at the Ivo Shandor building, fans will be able to enroll as a new enthusiastic generation of students at the Paranormal Institute, partaking in the missing chapter of the Ghostbusters legend. The Ghostbusters will be on hand to quickly train up and recruit more people following their finest hour, so they can pass on their experience and expertise in battling ghosts.

The experience will fuse together technical features and special effects with live actor interactions to create a truly innovative immersive experience. Fans will train with the best as they embark on a journey of paranormal knowledge and are put to the ultimate test in a world featuring mesmeric visual effects, including face filters and voice modulators alongside spine-tingling binaural sound.

Secret Cinema is no stranger to pushing the boundaries when it comes to immersive experiences and branching out to audiences beyond the UK. In 2020, the brand produced the groundbreaking live event, Stranger Things: The “Drive-Into” Experience in downtown Los Angeles which took fans inside some of its most iconic scenes, all from the safety of their own cars. In Ghostbusters: Afterlife, when a single mom and her two kids arrive in a small town, they begin to discover their connection to the original ghostbusters and the secret legacy their grandfather left behind. The film is written by Gil Kenan & Jason Reitman.

Iconic Chuck’s Vintage celebrated their New York City debut with a Roaring 20’s themed soiree. The extravagant event was the “bee’s knees” and hosted by Vinnie Cammarata, husband of Chuck’s Vintage creator, the late Madeline Cammarata. The evening was a celebration of both Madeline and the iconic business’s new Manhattan location. Guests were dressed in their finest 1920’s outfits with many of the female attendees donning the classic Flapper look, while enjoying cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. DJ Lee Kalt and vocalist Xandra K. were on hand for special live entertainment.

Artist Linjie Deng Showcases Works Inspired By Asian Violence in U.S. at SCOPE Nov. 30 – Dec. 5

NEW YORK, NY, October 2021– Carlton Fine Arts Ltd. is pleased to present the work of conceptual Chinese artist, Linjie Deng, at SCOPE Art Fair, which celebrates its 20th year in Miami, running from November 30th through December 5th.

This year, Linjie will be exhibiting some of his key pieces from his Asian Art SPA series, which Deng created after he was attacked at a New York subway station at 86th street. His attacker referred to him as f**king yellow while violently shoving him to the ground. Reclaiming the Asian slur, Deng created three works that are all yellow, paying respect to the pain the Asian community has felt during this time. One of the works spotlighted will be Fortune Cookie, in which the fortune itself states “Stop Asian Hate. Start American Love.”

Deng will also feature signature works from his other series including Proud and Humble from his Yin-Yang series, a selection of contemporary calligraphy works consisting of a set of mutually opposing and coexisting words: freedom and hope, you and meme and we, proud and humble. These reflect the different reactions and perspectives of Eastern and Western cultures throughout the last few years.

Linjie Deng is a multi-talented conceptual artist in New York City. The 29-year-old artist moved to NYC in 2015 after graduating from art college in Beijing, then received his MFA degree from the School of Visual Arts in New York. Multimedia art, such as ink art, participatory art and performance art have always been a passion and hobby in Deng’s life. He started studying Chinese ink art and calligraphy at six years old. Now, his artwork has also migrated to a space within digital media and video. He also experiments with new media art from a Conceptualist position. Deng’s works have been shown in China, the Museum of Chinese in America, The Hamptons Art Fair, and have been featured by The United Nations.

‘Banksy: Genius or Vandal?’ lets visitors dive into the artistic universe of the most influential creators of present time with the largest collection of artworks anywhere by the enigmatic British artist. Viewers will see more than 80 genuine, authenticated artworks from private collections that, with the collaboration of Lilley Fine Art / Contemporary Art Gallery, will be exhibited in New York for the first time. 

Banksy has questioned the rules of the game of contemporary art and is today considered one of the main figures of street art. ‘Banksy: Genius or Vandal?’ combines original works, sculptures, installations, videos and photos, including lost street works in their original organic environment, with a multimedia installation created especially for this exhibition, that will reveal clues to the mystery artist, highlight his most important pieces, and frame his career.

Tri-County Animal Rescue Honors Sir Darius Brown

On Monday, October 18th, Co-chairs of the Tri-County Animal Rescue Andrea Stark, Janna Bullock, Jean Shafiroff and Adrien Arpel hosted a luncheon to honor Sir Darius Brown with the Tri-County Rescue’s Young Leadership Award at Stark’s beautiful penthouse. Sir Darius is the founder of Beaux & Paws, where he creates handmade stylish bow ties to help shelter dogs and cats find their forever home.

Midway through the luncheon, Andrea Stark took the floor to thank everyone for attending, before sitting with honoree Sir Darius Brown to begin a Q&A session. During the Q&A, Sir Darius stated, “I realized if people look really great in bow ties why can’t dogs and cats. So, after donating my bow ties to my first animal shelter, the ASPCA in New York, I realized that if dogs stay in shelters for too long, they can be euthanized and that really hurt me because I never knew, and I should have.” He continued, “I felt that I needed to do something to spread awareness and now I have made it my mission to help as many dogs and cats around the world as possible.”

The Q&A ended with Stark presenting Sir Darius with a beautiful London Jewelers watch from President and animal advocate Candy Udell, who could not be in attendance, and the Tri-County Rescue’s Young Leadership Award for his unwavering commitment to helping animals. The presentation ended with Stark inviting guests to attend the upcoming Tri-County Animal Rescue Peppermint Bark & Brunch benefit in Palm Beach on Sunday, November 21, 2021.

The intimate luncheon was attended by 30 guests, who enjoyed passed hors’ d’oeuvres, cocktails and beautiful table spreads filled with fine cheeses, pasta salads and more. About Sir Darius Brown

Sir Darius Brown, the 14-year-old with a heart of gold is a powerhouse teen entrepreneur, speaker, philanthropist, animal advocate and founder of Beaux & Paws, where he creates handmade stylish bow ties to help shelter dogs and cats find their forever home.

At the age of two, Sir Darius was diagnosed with a speech, comprehension, and fine motor skills delay. However, he never let his challenges get in his way or stop him from accomplishing his goals. At the age of eight, his fine motor skills started to improve after he began assisting his older sister with cutting fabric and learning how to use a sewing machine. During this time is when he discovered his passion for making bow ties.

In 2019, Sir Darius’s created the “PAW-SOME MISSION”. The goal for the mission is to ship bow ties to and visit animal shelters in all 50 states. Upon visiting the animal shelters Sir Darius will be donating his bow ties personally, assisting with adoption events, and using his platform of over 50K followers on social media to highlight adoptable pets and give them even more exposure to help them find forever homes faster.

Sensemaking: Pat Perry at Hashimoto Contemporary NYC


NEW YORK CITY – Hashimoto Contemporary is pleased to present Sensemaking, our debut solo exhibition by Detroit-based artist Pat Perry. This will be the artist’s highly anticipated New York City debut as well as his debut solo exhibition with the gallery, and is curated by Anne-Laure Lemaitre.

The artworks in Sensemaking tell a story about storytelling, how we crave narratives that simplify and explain a chaotic world. The works are part of an ongoing series, depicting recitals and presentations taking place along familiar highways, behind billboards, and out in fields.


Landscapes are invaded by escaped race horses and Youtube celebrities. Banners pay homage to gravesites from Craigslist ads. Wifi dancers, swimming pools, and house fires inhabit familiar roadsides.


The paintings and drawings deploy a wide array of recycled symbols to explore a central theme: we are flawed thinking machines. And even so, the current moment demands that each of us interpret the world.

What should we expect from one another and from ourselves? Quiet and serene, these paintings and drawings offer a joyful glimpse into an invented world; one that’s closely related to the one right in front of us; one that we so often struggle to see clearly and make sense of.

About The Artist

Pat Perry (b. Michigan, 1991) is an American visual artist primarily painting, drawing, photographing, and installing large-scale outdoor mural installations. Throughout the 2010’s, a series of sketchbooks and photos documenting years of traveling itinerantly around the United States, accidentally became some of Perry’s most well-known works. Simultaneously, his large-scale works and posters have called attention to various social causes through collaborations with groups such as the Beehive Design Collective, AptArts, No More Deaths, and the UN High
Commissioner For Refugees. In 2018, Perry’s largest body of paintings debuted as a solo exhibition titled, National Lilypond Songs at UICA in Grand Rapids, Michigan. In early 2020, several of the works were exhibited alongside new works in a solo exhibition titled, Song and Dance at Takashi Murakami’s Hidari Zingaro gallery in Tokyo.


Perry’s ongoing series of Recital works use a fictional group of performers to animate social and emotional effects
of 21st century technologies, as well as knowledge limits of individual meaning-making. The works include
paintings, drawings, and installations of life-size performers on interstate medians and roadsides throughout the
Midwest. Pat works and lives in a small downtown neighborhood on Detroit’s East Side.

PJ Bernstein – A Landmark in NYC Jewish Deli Dining

 Located in the Upper East Side. of NYC is a staple of the Jewish Deli dining scene, PJ Bernstein. Although it may not get the attention of some more notable counterparts—Katz’s Delicatessen and 2nd Avenue Deli—PJ Bernstein has been beloved by many New Yorkers for since the 1960s including legendary celebrities Lucille Ball, Liza Minelli, Mayor Ed Koch and numerous others.

A multi-generational restaurant now owned and operated by father and son team, Steve and Eugene Slobodski, PJ Bernstein serves all the traditional dishes of an authentic Jewish deli.

Best sellers from the menu include:

  • Homemade soups—the chicken stock for the deli’s bountiful soup menu is produced each morning in a vat with over 25 pounds of chicken bones, celery, and carrots which produce nearly 50 gallons of broth. PJ Bernstein may not be as well-known as its downtown compatriots—Katz’s and the Second Avenue Deli—but this Upper East Side Jewish Delicatessen and full-service restaurant—one of the few remaining authentic restaurants of its kind—has perhaps an even more storied history than its predecessors. PJ Bernstein has been a staple in its star-studded neighborhood since it first opened its doors in 1965. For Russian-born Alex Slobodski, this Jewish delicatessen was a reminder of home and a refuge from his working life as a cab driver. He took comfort in the aromas,and flavors of his favorite foods and the friendly atmosphere. He spent many evenings chatting with the owner, Mr. Bernstein, and brought his family there on his days off.

In 1983, Mr. Bernstein was looking to move in a different direction, and offered Mr. Slobodski,his most devoted customer, a chance to buy his favorite neighborhood spot. Slobodski took that chance and never looked back. He carried on the tradition of delicious, savory, appetizing food and a warm, caring atmosphere, and made it even better. And passed that passion and dedication onto his family: his son and grandson, Steve and Eugene Slobodski, carried on the tradition, adding a much-needed delivery service as well as an outdoor seating area.

PJ Bernstein’s continues to be a popular destination for locals and celebrities. Landy Hunt, has worked at the deli for 50 years, starting with the Bernsteins and staying on to maintain the deli’s traditions with the Slobodski family. Starting out as a dishwasher he worked his way through the ranks and became floor manager, and boy, does he have stories to tell! He served Lucille Ball corned-beef sandwiches and matzah ball soup nearly every day when she lived around the corner on East 70th Street. Liza Minelli was another regular, sitting at the counter with a corn muffin and coffee. Other stars including Mel Brooks and two James Bonds, Sean Connery and more recently Daniel Craig. New York Yankee Giancarlo Stanton also had an appetite for PJ’s towering pastrami sandwiches and homemade soups. Another regular notorious for his discerning appetite was “Hizzoner” Mayor Ed Koch.

Tommy Jedrzejezyk has led the kitchen at PJ Bernstein for more than 20 years. His unique preparations are based in years of experience as a chef in Germany and Poland. The moment they step inside, customers are hypnotized by his deli case specialties including stuffed cabbage, chicken liver pate, and homemade gefilte fish as well as classic cuts of mouth watering pastrami, corned beef, and turkey.
