Cavalier Gallery Presents “New York, I Still Love You” by Guy Stanley Philoche 09/15

0

(New York, NY – September 2, 2022) – Cavalier Gallery will present never-before-seen works from Guy Stanley Philoche’s beloved series, “New York, I Still Love You.” The collection, which received massive acclaim during Miami Art Week, will be on view at the New York gallery from September 15th – 27th.

The “New York, I Still Love You” series is Philoche’s love letter to the Big Apple, a city he has called home for over two decades.  A true celebration of NYC’s grit and undeniable charm, the collection was conceptualized during the pandemic and reflects the adversity that the artist has faced in the city that never sleeps, serving as a reminder that New York will never die.

“I wanted this series to remind people that New York City is one of the toughest in the world, and while we were down and out during the pandemic, we are coming back stronger than ever,” said Philoche. “The ever-changing landscape of the city over the last few years provided the perfect opportunity to spotlight what makes this city so special and one-of-a-kind.”

The collection of artworks showcases iconic New York City images from the soft pretzel and the Statue of Liberty to a Yankees baseball hat and a subway stop, framed in the style of a Polaroid picture. Throughout the last few years, Philoche would explore the streets with polaroid camera in hand, finding inspiration in the city’s small unique intricacies. A globally recognized artist, Philoche’s collection is a beautiful blend of pop, graffiti, realism, and abstraction.

A dedicated philanthropist, Philoche has made an unwavering commitment to help his fellow artists since the devastating toll the pandemic took on the art community. Throughout the last two years he has purchased over 150 works of art from up-and-coming global artists, creating The Philoche Collection. Philoche’s talents have been recognized by CNN, People Magazine, Reuters, Time Out New York, NBC New York, Palm Beach Daily News, the Kelly Clarkson Show, the Tamron Hall Show, and more.

The exhibition will be on display with all works available for purchase at Cavalier Gallery at 3 W. 57th Street, 4th Floor New York, NY 10019. Exhibition hours are Tuesday – Friday, 10 AM -6 PM and by appointment. About Guy Stanley Philoche

Haitian-born modern artist Guy Stanley Philoche immigrated to Connecticut when he was three. As the middle child of three boys and coming from a family of sports enthusiasts whose passion he didn’t share, Philoche turned to art as his calling. While remaining close to his Haitian Roots, Philoche was the only son to buck his culture’s tradition of the entire family living together and struck out on his own – first attending Paier College of Art and then Yale. He now lives in New York City. For the past 15 years, Guy Stanley Philoche has been attracting international attention with his work and his impressive roster of solo shows. As an artist, Guy’s palette is strong and sophisticated. His layering technique has created a body of paintings so richly textured that one can hardly hold back from reaching out and touching the canvas. In fact, it is the artist’s intent and wish that the viewer will follow their desire to reach out and feel the different textures of his canvases. His work is for the viewer’s pleasure, to be fully enjoyed from a tactile standpoint, and he has varnished the canvases for exactly that reason.

Candace Bushnell Leads More than 400 Runners at Seventh Annual 5K Race of Hope to Defeat Depression in Southampton, NY

2

(August 10, 2022 – Southampton, NY) – The Hope for Depression Research Foundation’s (HDRF) Seventh Annual 5K Race of Hope brought together more than 400 men, women, and children on Sunday, August 7th in Southampton Village in support of mental health awareness and research.  Iconic author and creator of the Sex and the City series, Candace Bushnell, cheered the crowd on as Celebrity Grand Marshal during the festive event, which raised over $325,000 for research into new and improved treatments for depression and anxiety.

HDRF founder Audrey Gruss and Board member Arthur Dunnam, both Hamptons residents, served with Bushnell as Co-Grand Marshals of the 5K walk/run, which is a USA Track and Field-sanctioned event.

“This organization is so important to me because I too, have suffered from depression and I can tell you that it robs people of a portion of their lives,” said Bushnell. “I’ve also had friends who have had mental illnesses and the outcome hasn’t always been good for them. This is a very personal cause for me and I’m so excited about the work that Audrey Gruss is doing to find new treatments.”

Audrey Gruss said, “A million people struggle with depression and anxiety since the pandemic. That’s a third of Americans including men, women and children. You are out here today to help raise awareness and help support one of the most prevalent health issues of our time.”

“For sixteen years we’ve raised awareness and done the research, and we’re on the way to finding a new antidepressant,” added Gruss. “Did you know that 50% of the people who need medication, don’t respond to what’s out there?  Most of the available medications are over 35 years old, with Prozac being introduced in 1985. Now we’re working on a major new category of medication with clinical trials at Mount Sinai and Columbia, and your support today will help fund this critical research.”

At the starting gun, participants set off to complete the 3.1-mile course around Lake Agawam and the tree-lined streets of Southampton, NY.  Hope was in abundant supply as everybody sported t-shirts and caps in HDRF’s signature sunshine yellow.

At the close of the race, Audrey Gruss handed out awards in several categories including First Prize for best male time went to William Hague, and First Prize for the best female time went to Kira Garry.   The award for Top Fundraising Team went to Kim Heirston, which raised over $21,000.  The award for Top Individual Fundraiser went to Arthur Dunnam, who raised $45,400 from friends and family for his race.  The award for the largest team went to Natasha Jefferies and her team, Dakari’s Heartbeat, with 14 members.

All race participants received an HDRF branded ultra-lightweight jacket, hat, race shirt, and finisher medal.  The first, second, and third place winners received cash prizes of up to $500. Successful fundraisers also received special prizes for raising upwards of $250 and $1,000.

Race participants included: Janna Bullock, Sharon Bush and Bob Murray, Jamee and Peter Gregory, Kim Heirston, Tania Higgins, Richard LeFrak, Anne Nordeman, John Paulson, James and Teresa Remez and their daughters Sofia and Lila, Mirella Cameran-Reilly, Southampton Village Mayor Jesse Warren and Lis Waterman.

Today, HDRF is the leading nonprofit organization focused solely on advanced depression research into new and better treatments for the illness. The World Health Organization has declared depression as the leading cause of disability worldwide, and yet conventional medications today are outdated and do not fully work for 50% of patients. The mission of the HDRF is to spur innovative neuroscience research into the origins, medical diagnosis, new treatments, and prevention of depression and its related mood disorders – bipolar disorder, postpartum depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety disorder, and suicide. To date, HDRF has provided more than $45 million through over 200 grants for breakthrough depression research that promises to transform the way depression is viewed, diagnosed, treated and prevented.  Currently, HDRF has a potential new class of medication in pilot clinical trials at Mount Sinai Medical Center and Columbia University.

Star-Studded Hamptons Soireé to Raise Funds for Community and Conservation in Africa

2

BRIDGEHAMPTON, N.Y., Aug. 12, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — On Friday, August 19, 2022 Amy and Gary Green are hosting an evening fundraiser at their home in Bridgehampton, New York to support the philanthropic and conservation efforts of the African Community & Conservation Fund (ACCF) and Tusk, a UK-based charity headed up by Royal Patron, Prince William. The “Karibu Africa” soireé will raise money to help ACCF’s and Tusk’s many community outreach programs, wildlife protection and anti-poaching efforts, including initiatives to improve livelihoods and combat rising food poverty in East & Southern Africa particularly Tanzania, Rwanda, Mozambique and Zimbabwe.

Covid-19 devastated jobs and livelihoods across the African continent, and with few economic recovery resources, decades of conservation and community upliftment success has been put at risk. Moreover, Russia’s war in Ukraine has collaterally created a global food crisis, as wheat and other grain shipments to Africa have been cut off or dangerously delayed.

“I’m proud to be coming back home to Long Island and to the Hamptons to lift up to the world this message of hope for Africa. The funds will help us fuel capacity-building food security, humanitarian, anti-poaching, and conservation programs at our projects in rural Africa,” said Brady Forseth, CEO of ACCF. “We are proud to partner with Tusk on our collective impact work in Zimbabwe and Mozambique and grateful to Gary and Amy Green, as well as Paula Abdul, for their generous support towards this event.”

“Following the huge success of the Hamptons Lion Trail last summer, we are delighted to be coming together once more with our partners ACCF to co-host this summer soirée to raise vital funds for our combined conservation efforts across Africa,” said Charles Mayhew, MBE, CEO of Tusk.

Amy Green, an ACCF Ambassador, animal activist and conservation, and her husband Gary Green will be joined by global icon and advocate of the United Nations World Food Program (WP), Paula Abdul, as well as model and actress Christie Brinkley and Blindside actor Quinton Aaron. Other celebrities attending include Bakithi Kumalo, a South African bassist, composer, and vocalist who toured with Paul Simon, TikTok influencer and WFP supporter Donlad Dougher, and British Classical singer Katherine Jenkins and her husband, film director Andrew Levitas. Artistic work by photographer and ACCF Ambassador David Yarrow will be among the pieces auctioned.

“We are honored to host this year’s ‘Karibu Africa’ event at our home in the Hamptons. Raising money for such an amazing cause is so important to us,” said ACCF Ambassador and event hosts Amy and Gary Green. “Sustainability, education, and love of animals have always been close to our hearts. We have been promoting these causes throughout our lives and are honoured to take this a step further by Amy becoming an ambassador for the African Community & Conservation Foundation.”

The “Karibu Africa” soireé will also include an opportunity for guests to pledge generously to a Funding Need and support the Wildlife Ranger Challenge, a pan-African initiative raising vital funds to support rangers, raising awareness of Africa’s biodiversity crisis and the conservation heroes standing between species and extinction.
