Shawn Dromgoole, the founder of We Walk With Shawn, the not-for-profit that unites and empowers people to connect regardless of race or circumstances. Shawn has once again teamed up with Sag Harbor’ residents Joyce Shulman and Eric Cohen, the co-founders of 99 Walks and Jetti Fitness to host the Second Annual Hamptons Walk with Shawn on Sunday, June 4th, 2023.
Together the trio will be inviting people to come together at Long Beach Sag Harbor to bring support and encourage community. There is no cost to participate in the 45-minute walk; participants just need to meet on the Noyak/south side of the parking lot at 7 AM.
More About Shawn
As a young black man, following the murder of Trayvon Martin, Ahmaud Arbery and other black men, Shawn was afraid to walk the streets of his gentrified community in Nashville, TN. A post he made on social media led to nearly a hundred neighbors showing up to walk with him. He decided to create similar walks as a powerful way to connect people, discuss important topics, and empower black and brown people through interaction and understanding.
Next up was a raft of national media coverage everywhere from People to CNN and the Washington Post and, more recently, on Rachel Ray and elsewhere. The walks continued and as a result, Shawn became convinced (as I am) that one of the most powerful ways to connect people and build community is for neighbors to walk together. He calls it “the walk sound” — what he describes as “the chatter I hear behind me when we are walking. That’s the sound of new relationships growing and communities being built.”
Shawn is on a mission to bring this power to as many communities as possible and he will once again be our guest for the Second Annual Walk with Shawn Hamptons weekend, June 3-4.
