Life was brought to fill the space in the form of a conversation between The Musicians Foundation’s Executive Director, David Gracia, and Sir Clive Gillinson, Executive and Artistic Director of Carnegie Hall. “You could have been anywhere else in New York City, but you chose to be here. Your generosity means a lot to the Musicians Foundation.” said Gracia, “A musician’s life can be turned upside down by the flu, by breaking an arm, losing work for months. And that’s how Musicians Foundation started, to help musicians who were going through difficult times.” Gillinson mused “What the Musicians Foundation are doing is so important, because your foundation does change lives.”

“How music serves people” said Gillinson, “it provides something so fundamental to us as human beings.” He recalled “the first few notes of Brahm’s Second when I played in the youth orchestra are so special to me, because it was the moment I knew music had to be my life. And I didn’t realize until I got into management, I was no longer thinking about myself – I was starting to think about how music can serve others. It gives us hope, identity, and a sense of purpose.”

Guests included Musicians Foundation board members Roman Dworecki, Lisa Megeaski, Thomas Parker, and Bess Forrell Steiger, as well as Marie Arnett, Karon Cullen Meyer, Solange De Santis, Maximo Flugelman, Hilda Froelke, Nomie Ghez and Mike Siegal, Debra Guthrie, Ben Hartley, Sharon King Hoge, Michele Gerber Klein, Laura Lobdell, Jonathan Marder, James Saakvitne, Kimberly and Joe Vance, and many more.

About NYC Second Chance Rescue:

NYC Second Chance Rescue is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that was founded in 2009. With the generous contributions of their dedicated community of donors and supporters, they have successfully saved over 15,000 lives from an unimaginable fate. The primary focus of NYC Second Chance Rescue is on large breed dogs and animals in need of critical, life-saving care, as these two categories represent the majority of euthanasias in the United States. Nine out of ten animals that enter NYC Second Chance Rescue were initially slated for euthanasia at municipal shelters. Through their foster care system and brick-and-mortar shelter, they provide comprehensive medical care and a nurturing, secure sanctuary for all pets.

D’yan Forest – 90 Year Old Guinness World Record Holder for Oldest Female Comedian at Sticks and Stones Comedy Club 09.28

0

D’yan Forest was raised a provincial girl in the conservative suburbs of Boston. After a contextually scandalous marriage turned divorce and two years of oral French lessons, Forest got on a five-day boat ride to study abroad in Paris. After falling in love with the city, Forest would then fully embrace French culture, which would determine the trajectory of the rest of her career. Back in the US, Forest performed as an international singer at golf clubs, country clubs, bars, and restaurants. Her life as a singer was cut short when the entertainment business in New York City was brought to a halt after the 9/11 attacks. Forest obliged the world’s needs and became a comedian. With her ukulele in hand, Forest put together a hysterical and risqué one-woman show which caught on quickly. Her act, accurately called “I Married a Nun,” landed her on the same stages as Jerry Seinfeld, Jim Gaffigan, and Joan Rivers. Upon meeting Forest, Rivers referred to her as “the filthy ukulele player.” COVID-19 got Forest to wondering what else she could do with all of her wonderfully hilarious stories from life. I Did it My Ways is the culmination of her sitcom-worthy life events, now available for all to read. But this book is no indication that the 90-year-old is done taking to the stage. Her act, “Swinging on the Seine,” can still be seen in New York and Paris at some of the most famed comedy clubs like Joe’s Pub, Caroline’s Gotham Comedy Club, and New York Comedy Club. She most recently performed her new show “D’yan Forest: 90 Years of Songs & Scandal” at Joe’s Pub.

The 16th Annual Get Wild! Gala Celebrated by The Evelyn Alexander Wildlife Rescue Center

0

For 16 years in a row now The Evelyn Alexander Wildlife Rescue Center of the Hamptons has a gala to raise funds to contribute to their mission of rehabilitating and successfully releasing animals back into the wild across Eastern Long Island.

Eastern Long Island’s only wildlife hospital, The Evelyn Alexander Wildlife Rescue Center, Inc., is a non-profit organization dedicated to the rehabilitation of wild animals impacted by human encroachment on their habitat. It is a grass-roots organization that began with a few concerned friends and has grown to include over 3,000 members and supporters. The center operates as a full-service professional wildlife hospital, with licensed rehabilitators, biologists, animal behaviorists, and volunteers on staff. More than 300 people have been trained to help with wildlife rescues. The Evelyn Alexander Wildlife Rescue Center is located on Munn’s Pond Park through a cooperative licensing agreement with Suffolk County Department of Parks, Recreation and Conservation. The center is located on a greenbelt of public land parcels that stretches from Tiana Bay to Peconic Bay on the eastern end of Long Island, New York. This ecosystem is one-of-a-kind and irreplaceable, with salt and freshwater wetlands, Pine Barrens, deciduous forest, and meadowland. As a result, it is an ideal location for a wildlife rehabilitation center. The hospital is intended solely for wild animals. There are no ambient noises or smells to stress the wildlife that is recovering within, unlike a veterinary hospital. Every year, the Wildlife Rescue Center receives over 10,000 calls for information or assistance regarding wild animal encounters. In addition, the center offers educational programs to local elementary and secondary schools. Local college students participate in cooperative education programs and internships. The Evelyn Alexander Wildlife Rescue Center has an annual operating budget of more than $650,000, almost entirely funded by generous donors.  For more information, visit: www.wildliferescuecenter.org

The highlight of the evening was board member Jeffrey Colle’s gift to the silent auction of a safari in Africa, at Buffalo Kloof in South Africa’s Eastern Cape province –  which ended up selling multiple times to the great benefit of the Wildlife Rescue Center.

Guests were treated to live music from special musical guests Taylor Barton and G.E. Smith, cocktails, light fare, and a silent auction.

All guests were welcomed to the cocktail party, which featured appearances by some of the non-releasable hawks and owls that the Evelyn Alexander Wildlife Rescue Center has rehabilitated and now reside at the Center. All proceeds benefited the native wildlife treated at their hospital.
